Lorna Tolentino reveals Kris Aquino asked her on how to deal with Cory’s cancer

Actress Lorna Tolentino helped Kris Aquino during her mother Cory Aquino’s battle with cancer by giving her advice since Lorna herself previously had to take care of husband Rudy Fernandez who suffered from periampullary cancer. Kris revealed in her previous interviews that she would communicate with Lorna often to talk about this. “It’s about stages na nangyayari sa mom niya. Tinatanong niya (Kris) ako about near the end of Rudy kung ano ‘yung mga nangyayari, for example, nagkakaroon na ng obstruction sa mga ducts and then the edema and kung ano ‘yung pinakamagandang solusyon,” Lorna recalled on The Buzz yesterday.

The veteran actress confessed that the conversations were hard for her because she had to confront the painful memories she experienced during the last days of her husband. “Tuwing may aalamin siya sa akin kailangan kong balikan ‘yung lahat ng pangyayari ulit. ‘Yun ‘yung iniwasan ko before na hindi ako magsalita about ‘yung nasa ospital si Rudy, including the seven days of Rudy sa bahay, which was mas mahirap because wala kami sa ospital, so mas (matindi) ‘yung taranta,” she explained. However, she said that she feels happy that she was able to help Kris, even in just a small way because Kris was there for her when Rudy died.

Lorna revealed that she told Kris to cling on to God because this is the best way to properly deal with the loss. “Sabi ko nga sa kanya, ang nagbibigay talaga ng strength sa kanya ang Diyos talaga. It’s God’s grace talaga na ganun siya katatag at hinaharap niya unti-unti ‘yung pag-accept sa nangyari at kung paano ‘yung pinakamaganda at pinakamaayos na magiging komportable ang pasyente,” Lorna related.

When she had to tend to her husband on his death-bed, Lorna said that she would wish that she was the one with the illness because she would feel helpless seeing a loved one suffer. She said that she would appear strong in front of Rudy and would often cry inside the comfort room.

The actress also revealed that the feeling of longing and sadness increased as the days passed and she would catch herself talking to her deceased husband. Returning to work is helping Lorna cope up with her loss. Lorna will be soon seen on the upcoming teleserye, Dahil May Isang Ikaw. But through frequent prayers, she said that she was able to strengthen her faith in God. She also gave encouragement to the rest of the Aquino family. “It’s hard yes but alam ko na naging napakatatag rin nila. Malalagpasan nila ito kasi nakikita ko naman napakataas ng kanilang panalingin, so just hang on and hold on to God, and everything will follow naman.”
