Luis Manzano wants to keep his relationship with Angel Locsin private

Luis Manzano, who plays the title role in “Komiks Presents: Mars Ravelo’s Flash Bomba,” said he wants to keep his relationship with rumored girlfriend Angel Locsin private.

He shared that both of them even “avoid working together.”

“Unless by episode lang siya, something like MMK (Maalaala Mo Kaya) or Your Song. But if it’s something that will last (like a teleserye), e mas gugustuhin naming tanggihan ‘yon,” Luis said.

The host-actor said intrigues tend to complicate relationships of celebrity couples and that is something he wants to avoid.

“Napakahirap na nga ng parehong nasa industriya. Nirerespeto rin naman namin ang kailangan n’yong (press people) gawin at kailangan n’yong ibalita o i-share sa mga tao,” Luis acknowledged.

“Kumbaga we are taking the initiative na kahit paano magtrabaho ng sarili namin. Kasi sabihin natin na showbiz na nga kami, we’d still try to keep it private as much as possible. E kung sa ngayon, sa sitwasyon na we’re not a love team, eh napakasaya namin so we don’t wanna jeopardize that.”

Locsin is also no stranger to controversies but she has learned to take these in stride.

“Andyan na ‘yung abort issue, andyan na ‘yung (politician) na pinagawa siya ng bahay. Everything has been thrown at her and she still remains on top. It only goes to show na alam ng tao kung ano ang totoo at ano ang hindi. Kahit ano pang batikos ang binabato sa kanya, at kung ano pang gawa-gawa at the end of the day she’s still Angel Locsin. Andami pa ring nagmamahal at sumusuporta sa kanya. It shows na alam ng tao kung ano si Angel Locsin,” Manzano said.

He admitted that he and Locsin would just shrug off these controversies.

ABS-CBN reveals new February shows

ABS-CBN's offerings for the Year of the Ox are far from over.

Deo Endrinal, ABS-CBN's business unit head, formally unveiled its latest entertainment programs and the new timeslot of a Kapamilya morning show beginning February.

"We have a new morning show starting February 16 and it's called ‘Ruffa & Ai’ hosted by [Miss World 1993 Second Princess] Ms. Ruffa Gutierrez and, of course, the Comedy Concert Queen and Box Office Queen Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas,” Endrinal said.

The Kapamilya executive said Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino's morning show, "Boy & Kris," will have a new timeslot and format also beginning February 16.

"The king and queen of talk shows will now be part of primetime bida,” he said.

The morning show “Boy & Kris” will be followed by "SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon," a daily entertainment magazine show, according to Endrinal.

He said the two back-to-back programs will be aired from Mondays to Fridays.

Taking the timeslot of “Boy & Kris,” “Ruffa & Ai” will air before “Pilipinas: Game KNB?”

ABS-CBN is also set to air a new television horror series. Diamond Star Maricel Soriano is making a television comeback in "Florinda," the third installment from the "Susan Roces Cinema Collections."

"Florinda will run daily for three weeks starting February 23 as our very special tribute to Ms. Maricel Soriano for her birthday," Endrinal said.

Soriano will celebrate her 43rd birthday on February 25.

ABS-CBN will also premiere a latest TV drama series, "May Bukas Pa," which aims to give hope and inspiration amid the current crisis.

May Bukas Pa will start airing on February 2 right after “TV Patrol World.” May Bukas Pa is not replacing any of the four existing shows on primetime, Endrinal said.

Angel Locsin released from hospital

Actress Angel Locsin has been discharged from a hospital in Quezon City after she was confined there last week due to dengue, her rumored boyfriend, Luis Manzano, announced Tuesday.

In a press conference for his upcoming television series “Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba,” Manzano said Locsin left the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

"Nakauwi na po siya. She's on her way to recovery. Siguro mga one week pa po bago siya maka-fully recover. Very, very good news," Manzano said.

On Thursday evening Locsin was brought to St. Luke’s Medical Center where she was diagnosed with dengue infection.

“As of 5 a.m. (Sunday), her platelet count has gone up to 58,000. Her doctor is optimistic that she’s on her way to recovery. Angel would like to thank you all for your prayers,” the actress’ manager, Becky Aguila, told show business talk show “The Buzz” on Sunday in a text message.

Prior to her hospitalization, Locsin was supposed to do guestings on “Entertainment Live” and “The Buzz” last week but these were all cancelled because she was not feeling well.

Manzano recounted that Locsin had a high fever and started vomiting.

In Tuesday’s press conference, the “Flash Bomba” lead star divulged that he even had to force Locsin to go to the hospital.

"Ako lang talaga ang nag-ayos ng lahat na ma-confine siya because I knew she was not feeling well. At may pagkamatigas ang ulo noon at hindi ko siya binigyan ng choice. Sinabi ko talaga na kailangan niyang ma-confine," he said.

After visiting his mother, Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, who was on a photo shoot then, Manzano said he went straight to St. Luke’s to make all the necessary arrangements.

"Sabi ko, ‘didiretso na ako sa St. Luke’s, aayusin ko na ito, ‘yong room mo lahat-lahat. Ang kailangan mo lang gawin ay pumunta dito, kailangan mong ma-confine.’ Yes, siya ang pumunta sa St. Luke’s kasi inaayos ko ang room, ako ang nauna doon," he said.

Manzano said Locsin’s doctor was then considering two possible infections -- typhoid or dengue.

"So, I think hinintay ‘yong blood culture at binantayan ‘yong platelets kung ano ang nangyayari talaga. Noong constantly bumaba that's when they believed and confirmed na it was dengue," Manzano said.

The actress also acquired the same infection in 2005.

He said he would go straight to the hospital from work to visit Locsin. He also shared that his mother would send food for Locsin when the latter was still recuperating at the hospital.

The actor-host said he is happy that Locsin is now feeling better. He was also thankful that Locsin did not have to undergo a blood transfusion.

'No engagement'

After their reported rift and eventual reconciliation, Manzano, meanwhile, denied that he already proposed to Locsin.

His clarification stemmed from reports saying that Locsin was seen wearing an engagement ring.

"Kung anuman ‘yong singsing na suot niya, I believe na pinaghirapan niya 'yon sa mga pagpupuyat niya. Wala po akong ike-credit sa kahit ano sa mga jewelry niya," Manzano said.

He added that it is not yet time for the two of them to settle down.

"I have so many things to do. Kung feeling ko marami pa akong dapat gawin, triple 'yon para kay Angel. Mas marami pa siyang kailangang gawin," he said.

Is Charlene Gonzales hosting a new ABS-CBN daily morning talk show?

After word got out that Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino of Boy & Kris would be moving to primetime, speculations began floating around that another daily morning talk show would take over the show’s slot. So when Charlene Gonzales appeared at the presscon for Pond’s Age Miracle last January 27, the local media asked her if she was one of the three female hosts being eyed to take the reins from Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino. â€Å“I have no idea. Buti ka pa mas maraming alam sa akin. This is the first time I’ve heard about it,” said the former beauty queen who was clearly surprised with this piece of news.

But given a chance, Charlene seems willing to make a comeback since hosting is something really close to her heart. â€Å“I think by now everyone knows na malaki din ang utang na loob ko sa industriya. I’ve been in the industry for the past 16 years already, believe it or not, ang bilis talaga ng panahon. And mahal ko talaga yung industriya and it’s an industry that I will never leave. At the moment, I am not closing my doors to anything. I am just taking one step at a time. But I will always be forever grateful to our industry and love it forever,” she said.

Nevertheless, she refused to speak further about wanting to be a host again or the fact that she would have to compromise her time for her kids if she would be doing a daily talk show. â€Å“It really depends kung ano’ng magiging usapan [with ABS-CBN]. But at the moment nothing can be disclosed,” she reiterated. Charlene also didn’t comment when asked if there would be an issue if she took over the time slot formerly occupied by Kris. â€Å“It’s hard to be able to predict the future. Wala pa naman eh. So we’ll just leave it like that.”

The two were involved in a controversy last September 2008 when Kris made a joke about Charlene’s dress during the MetroWear Gala Presents Randy Ortiz fashion show Randy’s four muses—Kris, Charlene, Lucy Torres-Gomez, and Claudine Barretto-Santiago—were all supposed to wear black but Charlene had come in a turquoise Randy creation (with the designer’s blessings as it was revealed later on). Charlene said that things are now okay between her and the Queen of Talk. â€Å“Ever since the beginning, I’ve always had good relationships with everyone not just zeroing on one particular person, hindi ganon,” Charlene said. But she was also quick to add that she hasn’t really seen Kris nor talked to her since then.

As it was, she was very careful not to mention Kris’s name or their previous issue. â€Å“You know, life is not perfect. But those are the hurdles that you go through in life. But the most important thing is that you have a good conscience at maganda rin ang intensyon mo sa lahat ng tao. And you know, the industry is small. You have no bridges to burn. You will always bump into somebody again and again and again. So mas masarap din to live life na you have a good relationship with everyone,” she stressed.

Angel Locsin, rushed to the hospital because of dengue

Actress Angel Locsin was rushed to the hospital recently because of dengue. The star of Love Me Again: Land Down Under was reported to have developed a fever last January 17, Saturday, causing her to cancel her appearance on Entertainment Live with Piolo Pascual. She also cancelled her appearances on ASAP ’09 and The Buzz the following day because the fever had gotten worse. Three days after, Angel attended a press launch for Avon’s new endorsers Luis Manzano and Nikki Gil but her fever had not subsided by then. "Nung Wednesday, bigla na lang siya nag-high fever," her boyfriend Luis shared. “Actually she started throwing up. Ang taas ng fever niya nag-40, nag-39 (degrees). She was throwing up, nadi-dehydrate siya." It was only on Thursday, January 22, that she was brought to the hospital around 11 PM. "Namumula talaga siya, that could be a sign of dengue," related Luis, who at that time, was still waiting for the official diagnosis of the doctor. "Pero kumbaga 'yun ang primary suspect na-dengue.”

However, people close to the actress now report that Angel is already on her way to recovery. Her manager Becky Aguila sent a text message to The Buzz yesterday (January 25) saying, "Angel was officially diagnosed with dengue infection two days ago. As of 5 AM, the platelet count has gone up to fifty-eight thousand. Her doctor is optimistic that she's on her way to recovery." Angel also expressed through the text message her gratitude to everyone who prayed for her.

Although she is getting better, Luis is still asking for prayers for Angel's speedy recovery. "Definitely kahit sinong may sakit, napakalaki ng naitutulong ng mga dasal, Pero she's okay. She's being taken care of. Ipagdasal na lang natin na gumaling siya agad para makapagpasya siya kaagad through TV o kung ano pa man."

Top Ten TV primetime shows of 2008 (based on NUTAM)

Figures make up a competition. The same goes for television programs offered to the waiting public by the TV networks.

At present, a program's success is gauged through rating figures obtained in sample surveys conducted by AGB Nielsen Media Research, Philippines.

In a conversation with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in late 2007, AGB Nielsen's General Manager Maya Reforma explained that the survey is done through a special device attached to the television sets of the chosen households in a specific area. The device records the channels and the corresponding programs being viewed by the household at a given hour, thus explaining the daytime and primetime category. The stored data serve as the basis for the final figures, which are then assessed by the research firm's staff.

With 2008 behind us, it is interesting to list down the top primetime programs of the previous year. Note that this is based on NUTAM (Nationwide Urban TV Audience Measurement), which has a panel size of approxinately 1,670 households nationwide.

It is a known fact that the evening slot is considered as the most significant since viewership is higher during the period. Hence, advertisers—always on the lookout for any opportunity that would allow them to reach a wider market—are particularly fond of the timeslot.

Given the data provided by AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines, PEP presents the top ten primetime shows of 2008.

MARS RAVELO'S LASTIKMAN. The Vhong Navarro action, drama fantasy series seen on ABS-CBN debuted on September 24, 2007 and aired its final episode on January 25, 2008. Lastikman was based on a popular comic book character created by Mars Ravelo. The show generated an overall rating of 36.4 percent to lead the primetime race for 2008.

MARIMAR. The phenomenal success of the Mexican soap series prompted GMA-7 to do a local adaptation, which also served as young actress Marian Rivera's ticket to fame. Actor Dingdong Dantes likewise benefited greatly from the show as his image dramatically shifted from teenybopper to mature actor. Marimar was a consistent top-rater in the Mega Manila race as well as a strong player in the nationwide contest. Opening on August 13, 2007 and running until March 14, 2008, Marimar earned a total rating of 34.8 percent.

PATAYIN SA SINDAK SI BARBARA. Considered one of the scariest and most successful horror films in local cinema, Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara, the television version, starred Kris Aquino, Jodi Sta. Maria, Albert Martinez, and Susan Roces, among others. The series clocked in only a relatively small total of 15 episodes, yet the show made a huge impression both in the Mega Manila and nationwide survey.

KUNG FU KIDS. Dubbed as the first locally produced live-action fantasy series, Kung Fu Kids opened on January 28, 2008 and ended on April 25, 2008. The show used the so-called motion capture animation effects—reportedly the first local program to adopt the technology.

DYESEBEL. Another Mars Ravelo graphic creation portrayed on television. Dyesebel brought back the winning tandem of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes following the success of Marimar. Just like its predecessor, Dyesebel was a strong fixture in the ratings battle, dominating the Mega Manila race from start to finish.

THE SINGING BEE. A local franchise of the popular US singing game show, The Singing Bee featured Cesar Montano as main host, together with The Honebees led by Mel Villena. The show hit home with local viewers as its concept falls directly in line with the Pinoy pastime, videoke. The show premiered on April 21, 2008 and is still on air.

DYOSA. Anne Curtis's current series continues to gather strength as shown by its rating figures in the past weeks. The fantasy series features Anne Curtis, Luis Manzano, Sam Milby and Zanjoe Marudo. The show amassed a total rating of 32.2 percent to place seventh overall in the top-rating primetime programs of 2008.

LOBO. Angel Locsin's first series since joining ABS-CBN was not particularly a big threat in the Mega Manila ratings. But the NUTAM contest painted a totally different story. Lobo's success in the nationwide survey definitely proved that Angel still had a strong grip on the viewers, just like when she top-billed the GMA-7 programs, Darna and Mulawin.

TV PATROL WORLD. The country's longest running news program debuted on March 2, 1987 and continues to deliver the hottest news in and out of the country. Presently hosted by Ted Failon, Karen Davila and Julius Babao for the weeknights edition and Alex Santos and Bernadette Sembrano during weekends. TV Patrol earned a total of 31.2 percent and wound up on ninth place.

I LOVE BETTY LA FEA. ABS-CBN's local remake of the Colombian popular series, which stars Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz, premiered on September 8, 2008. Like Dyosa, the show continues to gather momentum in entering 2009. For 2008, I Love Betty La Fea garnered a rating of 30.5 percent to clinch tenth spot.

Exclusive: Sandara Park talks about her first TV role in Korea

Former teen star SandaraPark happily shared some good news about her acting career in South Korea with ABS-CBN.com. Ever since she spent a few days in Manila last August 2008 for a vacation and an appearance on ASAP ’08, Kapamilyas have been waiting for Sandara to appear in Koreanovelas. After a year of training and hard work, Sandara has landed a cameo role in the Korean historical drama, The Return of Iljime.

“I’m not sure kung kelan exactly I auditioned pero I think mga late 2007. Ang tagal na ‘di ba? I met Director Hwang (director of hit Korean drama Princess Hours) and his staff para makilala and say hi. It was not really an audition, parang very comfortable meeting lang, so nag-usap kami about mga experiences in the Philippines,” Sandara related on how she landed the role. “Actually, I did nothing special hehe! Kasi hindi audition ang intention namin noon. So nag-usap lang talaga kami, medyo matagal din. For almost an hour and I showed them yung scrapbook ko na lahat ng mga projects ko sa Philippinesnandoon, mga movie posters, screen caps, commercials…”

The lead character of the drama, Iljime, is a revered hero of Korea and will be played by young actor Jung Il Woo. According to Sandara, this is the actor’s first serious role that’s why Iljime is a highly anticipated drama in Korea, which is another reason why she is glad to have made it on the show. Sandara said that she finds her role on the show kind of ironic for she plays someone Japanese. “Si Rie ang role ko. Interesting kasi Japanese girl si Rie. Nasa Koreana ako pero Japanese ang unang role ko noh? Hahaha! Si Rie, isa siyang ninja na makikilala niya si Iljime, tuturuan niya ng martial arts ang mga ninja and siyempre magfafall sa kanya. Pero makakatuluyan kaya sila? Naku abangan yan! Sa Sandara's Romance Presents The Return of Iljime hahaha,” Sandara said, adding a joke about her former TV show on ABS-CBN.

Sandara shared her experience taping for her first drama in Korea. “It is my first project saKorea after the ‘I’m Sorry’ music video. Iba rin ito sa music video kasi real acting na ito, drama ito so I was really nervous and at the same time very excited. Sa Japanpa ang taping namin, sa TsushimaIslandna malapit lang sa Korea. Nagworry ako sa iba't ibang bagay pero ang saya ng taping namin. Walang problems, ang bait ng director, mga staff and they like me kaya it was really comfortable and fun for me to work with them.” She also became friends with the stars of the show, especially Il Woo. “Maganda rin ang working relationship ko with Il Woo. He's also very nice and fun to be with kaya mas masaya ang taping namin. Sana maulit muli.”

She also said that she really missed working in front of the camera and this made the experience more special. “After more than one year, back to set ulit ako. Kahit sa Koreaito, halos pareho lang ang system ng taping kaya nagulat sila kasi magaling daw ako mag-adjust. Siyempre, krungkrung ako noh? Sanay na ako sa mga tapings! Hehehe! One week nga lang taping namin, gusto ko mas matagal pa sana pero tapos na.” She added that doing tapings in the Philippines and in Korea are very much alike that’s why she had no problem following the director’s instructions. “I think 99% pareho ang mga nangyayari sa set, yung mga ginagamit sa tapings. For example, yung ginagamit namin marker sa floor para alam namin kung saan kami tatayo eh alam na alam ko na yun ‘di ba? Kaya marker ko ang sarili ko nun, nagulat ang mga staff marunong daw ako hehehe, ang yabang ko no? Halos lahat talaga pareho lang. Read namin ng script with Direk and he will tell us what to do, rehearsal, and then shoot na.”

But what makes the taping different for Sandara is the feeling that she’s starting again from scratch, far from the days when people were screaming her name during the first Star Circle Quest search. “Kakaiba rin ito kasi sa Pilipinas, kilala na ako and madalas ako ang bida sa isang project pero this time, walang nakakakilala sa akin and maliit lang role ko though wala naman small role sa isang actor pero kung isipin natin ang difference, malaking difference ito for me. Parang start from scratch ulit. I’m so happy to feel this excitement again after how many years. And I also learned na hindi important kung bida ka o hindi. Lahat ng roles important sa isang drama. ‘Yun nga lang walang nakakakilala sa akin kaya walang nagpa-autograph sa ‘kin sa set! Hahaha!” Sandara said with her usual humor.

Even though YG Entertainment’s career plans for Sandara are yet to be revealed, the young actress is very optimistic about her career in 2009 and hopes her fans will stick it out with her. “I’m also very excited about my future! As an actress? As a singer? Or both maybe? Wala ako masasabi sa inyo right now pero since I’m working hard everyday to improve myself, I’m sure marami pa kayong makikita from me. Konting tiis pa tayo.” And with that she left a special message to all her friends, who are eagerly waiting for her future projects. “I miss you all so much! Hindi ninyo pa ba ako nakakalimutan? Ayan I have some good news sa inyo, makikita niyo ako ulit sa TV! Sa Koreanovela. Simula palang ito kaya ‘special participation’ lang muna ako dito sa isang episode pero maeenjoy ninyo ito. Kakaiba ang role ko and you’ll see me acting again. I’m sure excited din kayo dito. Sana makadalaw ulit ako saPhilippinespara magkita tayo! Tiis-tiis muna tayo hanggang mareach ko ang isa pang dream ko dito. Salamat sa lahat!”

The Return of Iljime started airing in Korea last January 21 on MBC and Sandara’s character will appear in the February 11 episode.

Star Cinema reveals its line-up for 2009

Sa month of July naman plano ng Star Cinema ipalabas ang movie na pagsasamahan for the first time nina Bea Alonzo, Derek Ramsay at Sam Milby, ang And I Love You So sa muling pagbabalik ni Lauren Dyogi bilang movie director.

Susunod nila ang Lovers in Paris na first team-up nina Piolo at KC na ishu-shoot sa Paris, France. Si FM ‘Eric’ Reyes ang ina-eye nila to direct the show.

Practically, it’s a good year,” tapos ng kilalang lady executive.

Ron Morales is keeping busy working in TV and movies

Actor-model Ron Morales has certainly come a long way from just being known as a former reality show contestant. Now a busy Star Magic talent, Ron is enjoying the best of showbiz. He shows off his singing and dancing talents as part of the Coverboys in ASAP every Sunday and he proved he has acting chops when he appeared in Palos and Ligaw na Bulaklak last year. He was also part of the cast of the recently concluded fantaserye Dyosa.

The 24-year old is also currently part of two top-rated shows I Love Betty La Fea and Tayong Dalawa. He has also finished his first indie film project Iliw, with Kaye Abad and Ping Medina. “Period film siya nung panahon ng Hapon dito sa Pilipinas. Part ako nung guerilla na naghihimagsik sa mga Hapon tapos parang trinaydor ko yung kaibigan ko kasi may inggit ako sa kanya. Okay naman yung experience. Masaya. Magaan kasi katrabaho yung cast at crew. Parang taping lang din sa show na walang problema sa staff. Si Direk Bona Fajardo, kung ano gusto niya makita sa movie, na-e-explain niya ng maayos para maging madali para sa amin. One week ako dun sa Ilocos nag-shooting. Lumuwas lang ulit ako kasi may Bench event kami. Bumalik ulit kami tapos yun yung medyo mahaba na,” he recalls. Ron also admits enjoying working on TV as well as film. “Sa set ng Betty la Fea, masaya. Madami akong natututunan kay Lloydy (John Lloyd Cruz) at kay Direk Erik Salud, tapos okay rin sila katrabaho. Sana tuloy tuloy na. Masaya sila katrabaho,” he adds.

Despite his hectic schedule, Ron still tries to get a good workout to keep himself in shape. “Kahit puyat ako, pinipilit ko mag-workout para madisiplinahan yung katawan. Kahit na sundot sundot lang. Pero before, nung wala pang mga tapings, halos everyday ako nag-wo-workout. Eh ngayon medyo puyatan, mas gusto ko after work ipapahinga ko na lang pag-uwi sa house. Pero if I have free time, I work out talaga. I like working out,” he shares.

Ron says modeling has now taken a backseat to showbiz. “Medyo nag-lie low muna ako sa modeling pero part pa rin ako ng Bench. Nagkataon lang na mas concentrated muna ako ngayon sa acting,” he says. The Coverboys member also treats his showbiz career very seriously. “I’ve learned na dapat i-treat mo yung trabaho mo very professionally. Kung anong meron ka, dapat i-treasure mo yun kasi hindi forever na nasa showbiz ka,” he says.

Kristine Hermosa still a 'Kapamilya'

Amid reports that she is moving to another network, actress Kristine Hermosa has proven that she is still a certified Kapamilya star after she signed a one-year contract with ABS-CBN.

"Well, ang importante naman nandito pa din ako hanggang ngayon… 'yon ang importante, 'yong magsa-sign ako ng one-year contract with them and obviously Kapamilya pa din ako," Hermosa said.

Hermoso renewed her contract with ABS-CBN Monday.

For 2009, the actress is set to do a movie under the network’s movie outfit, Star Cinema, and two television series.

The actress said she will be paired again with actor Jericho Rosales in her upcoming movie and latest TV soap “Ikaw Lamang.”

Hermosa said she is thrilled to be paired again with her former boyfriend.

"Ang tagal ko naman pong hinihintay ito so I'm very excited to work with him again,” she said.

For her other TV series, "Maruja," Hermosa will be working for the first time with actor Derek Ramsay.

On Echo

Hermosa confessed that she missed working with Rosales, who she described as funny and wacky person.

On the possibility that their love for each other might rekindle now that they will closely work together, the actress said: “Open naman ang doors ko, sobrang open.”

She shared that she fell in love with Rosales because he is simple, sincere and honest.

"Hindi siya nahihiyang ipakita sa mga tao kung sino talaga siya at kung ano ang pinanggalingan niya. ‘Yon talaga ang pinakaminahal ko kay Echo (Rosales’ nickname)," she said.

When asked about the lessons she learned from the relationship, she said: “First of all don't trust too much. Siyempre, ingatan mo pa din ang sarili mom. Kahit sobra kang in love, isipin mo muna ang sarili mo. Love yourself first."

ABS-CBN: Dyan not a liar; Pacquiao interview just 35 mins

ABS-CBN has refuted reports saying that its senior sports correspondent, Dyan Castillejo, interviewed People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao in a party for three hours that purportedly drew the ire of media practitioners and other guests who were also waiting to talk to the boxer.

In a statement, Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head, said, contrary to reports, Castillejo’s interview with Pacquiao lasted for 35 minutes only, not three hours.

“In fact, Castillejo and her team waited patiently for two hours before they were asked to start the interview, which was done with the prior knowledge and permission of Pacquiao and the host of the party,” Osorio said.

Castillejo’s controversial interview took place in a victory party held for Pacquiao after his match with Oscar dela Hoya last December. The party was hosted by former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson.

Castillejo was then doing a documentary on Pacquiao for ABS-CBN’s “The Correspondents.”

Reports said guests and other media men began to complain allegedly because Castillejo’s interview lasted for three hours. This prompted ABS-CBN to issue the statement to clarify the allegations.

Reacting to ABS-CBN's statement, reports said a television executive of another network belied the Kapamilya network’s claims. The TV executive was also quoted as saying that Castillejo camp was lying.

ABS-CBN, for its part, scored the TV official, saying “it is conduct unbecoming of a TV executive to be calling Castillejo sinungaling (liar).”

“It is certainly not our style to feed misleading information or invent details for the media,” Osorio said.

He added: “Despite the negative campaign, Castillejo has remain unfazed and will continue to deliver news stories that matter to the Filipino people such as the triumphs of Pacquiao, who serves as an inspiration to our countrymen. We thank the public for their continued patronage of our news and current affairs programs.”

Luis Manzano finally reveals the reason why Angel Locsin cried on ‘ASAP ‘09’

Entertainment Live host Luis Manzano confirmed that he and rumored girlfriend Angel Locsin had a recent “trying moment,” which was why the actress cried during her duet with Love Me Again: Land Down Under leading man Piolo Pascual in the January 11 episode of ASAP ’09. Later questioned by The Buzz host Kris Aquino about what made her cry, Angel simply answered, “Na-realize ko lang na hindi puwedeng makuha mo ang lahat ng sabay-sabay.”

“Nakita naman natin what happened,” Luis said, referring to Angel’s emotional moment. “Totoong may napagdaanan kami.” The host-actor emphasized the word “napagdaanan” as if to indicate that they have already settled whatever issue they had. He added, “Just like anything, may napagdaanan kami ni Angel. But hopefully naayos na and we’ll be stronger than ever.” He did not elaborate about what issue he and Angel had to deal with.

Luis also explained why he was not at the premiere of Love Me Again: Land Down Under. “Dahil gabi nila iyon. Siyempre gusto ko ma-enjoy ni PJ (Piolo) at ni Angel ang gabing iyon na pinaghirapan nila,” he said.

Career-wise, Luis just ended his stint on Dyosa and is now set to play a comics superhero in Komiks Presents: Mars Ravelo’s Flash Bomba. His character’s powers include super-strength and the ability to cause a great impact through “thunder-clapping” with his unusually big hands. There are also talks of doing a sequel to the 2007 comedy movie Ang Cute ng Ina Mo, with Ai-Ai de las Alas and Toni Gonzaga. “It’s in the works. Malalaman din nating lahat [kung matutuloy],” Luis shared.

Kristine Hermosa denies walking out on the set of ‘Maruja’

Kristine Hermosa denied reports claiming that she had walked out on a taping of her upcoming TV project Maruja, saying that taping for the series had nit yet even begun. The actress refuted the rumors during her contract signing with the Kapamilya network yesterday, January 19. The actress could not help but laugh when she was asked about the issue. “Sandali, hindi pa ako nagsta-start [mag-taping] huh,” she answered, adding that taping for the series won’t begin until tomorrow, January 21, Wednesday.

She said that this recent issue only proves that some reports have no factual basis. “Alam mo, ‘yan lang ang nagpapatunay na ‘yung [ilang] sinusulat hindi talaga totoo,” she declared. “Hindi pa po ako nagsa-start. Magsta-start pa lang sa susunod na araw.”

Kristine’s renewed her contract with ABS-CBN for another year and the deal includes doing two teleseryes and a movie with Star Cinema. She will do the TV adaptation of the movie classic Maruja with Derek Ramsay and Karylle and another teleserye, Ikaw Lamang, which will reunite her with former leading man and boyfriend, Jericho Rosales. She said that there are no definite details yet about the movie.

Her reunion with Echo is highly-anticipated by fans, considering their previous series—Pangako Sa ‘Yo (2000) and Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas (2003)—made them household names both here and abroad. Three years after their last project together, Kristine expressed her excitement to be working again with Echo. “Antagal ko naman nang hinintay ito,” she remarked.

Kristine and Echo worked on an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. Now that both of them are single again, is there any chance of rekindling a romantic relationship? “Definitely hindi ako ang magmi-make ng first move. Open naman ang doors ko. Sobrang open,” Kristine said meaningfully.

When asked what he missed most about Echo, the actress answered, “Yung pagiging simple niya, pagiging simpleng tao, pagiging sincere na tao. Hindi siya takot ipakita sa tao kung sino talaga siya at kung ano talaga ang pinanggalingan niya. Yun ‘yung pinakaminahal ko kay Echo.”

Ex-Participantes reveal bets for el Ultimo Participante

In their first press conference last January 14, the five eliminated participantes of Pinoy Fear Factor revealed their bets for the El Ultimo Participante or Grand Winner of the reality show.

But the reports got me confused. According to TV Patrol World (video below), the ex-participantes voted for three contestants. On the other hand, according to Yehey.com, RJ Calipus, aka El Gato de Parola, got the majority of the votes.

TV Patrol World reported the Host Pheomela Baranda's and model Gail Nicolas' bet is Manuel Chua, aka Supermanuel. Chef Jose Sarasola and Vet Elmer Felix went for RJ. Cager Ram Sagad meanwhile voted for Jommy Teotico, aka "Scorpion King."

On the other hand, Entertainment Editor of Yehey.com Edgar Cruz wrote four votes for RJ [see the article in this url, http://www.yehey.com/entertainment/celebs/Article.aspx?id=232598] and one vote for Manuel. Elmer, Jose, Ram and Gail think RJ would win while only Phem chose Manuel.

What's the real score? Is TV Patrol World misleading us so that we shouldn't think that Manuel will win the two million pesos and the house and lot? Or did Yehey.com got the wrong report?

ABS-CBN has the motive of keeping us from thinking Manuel would win. Currently, Manuel is dominating the games. Everyone is thinking he will bag the prize. It will be good for the ratings if Manuel's name is kept on the news. Yehey.com on the other hand, has no motive of falsifying reports at all.

Here is the video:

Who do you think is giving us the wrong reports?

This is a guest from Richie Montalbo of Idiot Box. He is writing a series of Pinoy Fear Factor episode reviews for his Idiot Box Coverage of Pinoy Fear Factor.

Sarah Geronimo reveals John Lloyd Cruz talks to her about his love life

Pop star Sarah Geronimo admitted that she and You Changed My Life leading man John Lloyd Cruz have reached a point in their relationship where they’re comfortable enough with each other for Lloydy to open up about his love life. Sarah revealed this when she was asked if John Lloyd opens up to her about courtship. “Actually, hindi namin napag-uusapan ang courtship, ‘yung love life minsan ‘yung crush niya at may crush sa kanya,” Sarah shared.

Sarah and John Lloyd have now become closer since they did their first movie, the 2007 blockbuster A Very Special Love. Although there were initial doubts about their tandem—and even criticism particularly from fans of the John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo love team, the success of their first movie has “vindicated” the team-up. The two stars are now working on the sequel, tentatively titled You Changed My Life in a Moment, which will be Star Cinema’s post-Valentine offering.

When Sarah was asked to describe her leading man, she replied, “A good listener. ‘Yun nga ‘yung matatakbuhan mo kapag may [problema] ka. Mabibigyan ka ng words of wisdom.” For his part, John Lloyd described his onscreen team-up with Sarah as a gift. “It's very deep ‘yung makatagpo ka ng isang kapareha in this kind of business, na mayroon kayong ganoong klaseng chemistry. It's a gift na dapat inaalagaan at ino-nourish n’yo ang magandang relationship,” he explained.

John Lloyd also shared that the feature he finds attractive about Sarah is her eyes. “Kapag tinitingnan mo ang mata ni Sarah, nagtu-twinkle ang eyes niya,” he said. The actor also admitted that he is a fan of Sarah’s, describing her as a total performer. “Kahit sinong tumingin kay Sarah, makikita mo kung gaano siya kagaling na performer, especially kapag nasa stage na siya,” John Lloyd beamed. “I’d been vocal about it na fan ako niyan at kapag pinapanood ko ‘yan I couldn’t help but get mesmerized.”

Toni Gonzaga not leaving the Kapamilya network

Television host-actress Toni Gonzaga firmly denied reports saying that she was leaving ABS-CBN allegedly because of dissatisfaction.

Gonzaga said she was not transferring to another television station, saying that in the first place the Kapamilya network has lined up many projects for her this year.

The actress, who celebrated her birthday Saturday, added that she is “happy” in ABS-CBN.

“Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa ABS-CBN. Talagang naging ganap akong artista sa ABS. At may gagawin pa ako this year sa kanila so hindi ako pwedeng umalis,” she said. Entertainment Live

Jericho Rosales is Betty's new man

On its new season, I Love Betty La Fea will add a new character that will bring new twist and conflitcs to the already colorful life of Beatrice Pengson, the ugly duckling protagonist which will transform into a beautiful swan next week.

The latest addition to Primetime's nationwide no. 1 show is Jericho Rosales. After his successful soap "Kahit Isang Saglit", Jericho will have a head-on ratings collision with ex-girlfriend Heart Evengelista as Betty La Fea will move to an earlier timeslot, occupying the vacated slot od Dyosa. Betty's old slot will be given to Kimerald's "Tayong Dalawa".

Being casted in "I Love Betty La Fea" gives Echo the chance to finally work with John Lloyd Cruz. As early as now, many are looking forward to seeing the acting showdown between the two as they fight over Betty. But Jericho said he has no intention of upstaging John Lloyd in their scenes together.

Watch Betty La Fea this Monday and see Betty's transformation.

Charice: ‘One moment in time’ for Obama

Close this MANILA, Philippines—As the program for US President-elect Barack Obama’s inaugural ball—the party that follows the swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 20—have Americans all agog for its lineup of performers, a separate set of shows preceding it has got Filipinos doubly excited.

A series of pre-inaugural parties has been organized to build momentum to the main event; one of them, to be held on Jan. 18 at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel, will feature teenage Pinay singing sensation Charice Pempengco.

On the same day, another pre-inaugural concert featuring an all-star lineup including classical musician **-** Ma and rock singer Bono will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. It is said to be the event that the President-elect is expected to attend in its entirety.

Off to US

The Cabuyao, Laguna-born Charice, who is now formally called only by her first name, confirmed her participation in the Obama celebrations in an interview with a news team of her home network, ABS-CBN, on the day she was to board a flight to Washington.

Oprah’s protégé

Discovered by the world through the video-sharing website YouTube, Charice—whose international career is being handled by no less than billionaire media personality Oprah Winfrey—will sing two numbers, as requested by Obama’s staff: “God Bless America” and “One Moment in Time”—the latter originally performed on record by pop superstar Whitney Houston.

It was Winfrey, an ardent supporter of Obama’s presidential campaign, who reportedly lobbied to have Charice included in the pre-inaugural program.

Although Charice made her debut TV appearance in the US on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in December 2007, it was a guest stint on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in May 2008 where she was featured in a special segment dubbed “The World’s Smartest Kids.” In that segment Charice sang another Houston hit, “I Have Nothing.”

Four months later, Charice returned as a guest in another special segment, “Dreams Come True,” on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Charice’s performance piece, Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” was made extra special because it had the renowned Canadian songwriter-producer David Foster accompanying her on piano.

‘World’s most talented girl’

In the same show, host Winfrey described Charice in glowing terms as “the most talented girl in the world.”

From then on, it has been a dizzying ride to music biz recognition in which Charice —guided by Winfrey’s influential clout—graced a number of high-profile events: a rare duet with Dion at the latter’s Madison Square Garden concert which reportedly merited mention in the New York Times; a spot number at Andre Agassi’s “Grand Slam for Children” benefit concert in Las Vegas; a performance at the annual Carousel of Hope Ball 2008 in Beverly Hills, California, for the benefit of children with diabetes; another guest stint at the David Foster & Friends Charity Gala & Concert at Alberta, Canada; and an appearance at Macy’s 150 Years Anniversary Celebration in New York City, among others.

With music greats

America is bound to hear more of Charice with the release of a DVD/CD of a tribute concert in which the Philippines’ pride shares the stage with various stars who have worked with Foster, including Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Dion, Katharine McPhee, Blake Shelton, Kenny G, Peter Cetera and Brian McKnight.

‘Love Me Again’ makes its Philippine premiere

Now that their movie is finally making its Philippine debut, Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin shared some stories from the set of Love Me Again. During the final press conference for the movie, Angel admitted that upon instructions from Director Rory Quintos, she really slapped Piolo hard in one scene.

Piolo revealed that the slaps really hurt. “Grabe po, mga anim na beses ata [naming shinoot yun]. Kasi naman hindi naman tayo common na nasasampal ‘di ba? So dito ko lang talaga narealize na mahirap po ang trabaho namin. Maraming beses po ako nasampal [ni Angel], masakit po, medyo nagpantal yung mukha ko. Pero ok lang kasi masaya naman. Actually lagi siyang nag-aapologize every after the take,” said the dashing actor.

So inulit-ulit ko.”

In a way, Piolo got his revenge by stealing a kiss from Angel several times during a scene where Angel fell off her horse back in Bukidnon. “Yung scene na yun na bigla ko siyang hinalikan? Madaming beses din namin tinake yun. Hindi ako nagsorry, tumawa lang ako. Maraming takes kasi iba-ibang anggulo rin [yung kinukuhanan] eh,” Piolo naughtily remarked.

But even after all the kisses they shared onscreen, Piolo maintained that it was purely professional. “Yun po yung mahirap na trabaho nating mga artista because it (kissing scene) has to be realistic and that’s a craft amongst actors. Because when we get into a character, we have to feel it. So whatever you see, may katotohanan sa mga nangyayari dun. But siyempre tao ka na lang eh. Kung hanggang saan mo kaya dalhin yun, nasasayo na po yun,” he said.

Love Me Again’s international screenings will be held at Regal Village Square Stadium, Las Vegas; UA Horton Plaza, San Diego; Micronesia Mall, Guam; and Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18, Honolulu from January 23 to 29; Grand Cine Center, Qatar (January 29 to 31); Parkway Plaza Stadium 12, Seattle (TBA); Grand Megamall, Shariah; and Grand Cine City, Dubai (February 5 to 7); Pickwick Theater, Chicago (February 6 to 12); Grand Al Mariah, Abu Dhabi (February 12 to 14); and Cinescape Marina Mall, Kuwait (February 12 to 13).

Did Angel Locsin cry over Luis?

Kim Chiu: More than just a reality TV star

Almost three years after emerging as the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition big winner, Kim Chiu has gone a long way from just being a reality TV star. The 18-year old headlined the primetime drama series Sana Maulit Muli with Gerald Anderson in 2007, which was followed by My Girl last year. In between that, she also did numerous guest appearances in Star Magic presents, Your Song, Love Spell, and Maalaala Mo Kaya. Now, the pretty chinita is gearing up for her newest role as Audrey in Tayong Dalawa, with Gerald Anderson and Jake Cuenca both vying to win her heart. The cast also has several veteran TV and theater actors like Cherry Pie Picache, Agot Isidro, Miguel Faustmann, and Anita Linda. “Sobrang kakaiba yung role kasi parang lahat ng emotion nandito na: pagmamahal, iyakan, pinapahirapan at sinasaktan ako. Basta lahat ng emotions nandito tapos nakakasama ko pa yung mga veteran actors. Talagang marami akong matututunan at malalaman dun sa kanila,” she admits.

Although she’s been in showbiz for less than three years, Kim wants to improve her acting by taking on a wide variety of roles. “Tinanong sa akin ng management kung anong dream role ko kasi ibibigay nila sa akin, tapos sabi ko wala talaga akong dream role. Kasi lahat ng trabahong binibigay sa akin, gagalingan ko talaga. At saka wala akong dream role na gusto gampanan as of now,” Kim says.

When she has free time, the Your Song Presents: My Only Hope actress goes to the gym to keep in shape and help her gain more weight. “Okay naman yung sessions dahil nag-ge-gain naman ako. Hindi lang halata masyado (laughs). Itutuloy-tuloy ko yung workouts pero dahan-dahan,” she admits. Kim can only deny persistent rumors that she has an eating disorder. “Isipin na lang nila yung gusto nila isipin, pero para sa akin hindi talaga ako anorexic,” she stresses.

One of her plans for the future, when her schedule allows, is to travel. If given the chance, Kim would like to go visit Alaska. “Kasi gusto ko talaga sa malamig na lugar at saka may snow. Dream ko talaga yung may snow na malakas. Yung bumabagsak, yun yung pangarap ko, na makahanap ng ganun,” she says.

ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (USA) Rebuilding A Nation from the Bottom Up

No other foundation could ever be as hardworking and zealous in its mission to build a better world for the next generation of Filipinos than ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI). The socio-civic arm of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, one of Asia’s biggest media conglomerate, AFI offers outreach programs for children, their families and their families, and their community.

Extending its reach to Filipinos here in the United States, AFI USA is dedicated to raising funds to help improve the lives of abused and disadvantaged children and women in the Philippines. Through the backing and programs of AFI in the Philippines, AFI USA accomplishes its mission to alleviate problems like poverty, calamity relief, education and environmental concerns.

Gina Lopez, ABS-CBN Foundation Philippines’ Managing Director and Board Member for AFI USA, believes that it is important for Filipinos overseas to extend help to their kababayans. "Because the Philippines is their heritage," she said and explained, "Helping is not limited to physical locations. Even though you’re not here, you’re still part of the history, sharing common bondage of being Filipino. It doesn’t mean you stop doing your responsibility."

Projects

Although AFI USA has a number of programs in its fold, three major projects are now being pushed aggressively. One is the BayaniJuan initiative (Country of Juan), which was launched in May 2008. It is an integration of all Foundation programmes including Bayan Microfinance at the grassroots level. BayaniJuan brings together all of AFI’s programs and more in a comprehensive campaign designed to rehabilitate the most impoverished regions and communities in the Philippines.

"BayaniJuan is about building the country from the bottom up in the spirit of bayanihan," said Lopez. "Education, nutrition, environment, money – these are simple, important things that make life complete. The (economic) numbers alone don’t translate the nation’s progress."

Bantay Kalikasan was launched to serve as a catalyst in addressing the concern over the worsening state of the Philippine environment characterized by air and water pollution, denudation of forests, irresponsible waste disposal and their life-threatening effects. Two major projects -- Eco-Tourism and The Pasig River Rehabilitation Project are slated to roll out with the recent signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with DOT and DENR for Eco-Tourism in four strategic areas: the Tubattaha Reef, the Verde Passage, Region 5 - the Bicol Region and El Nido; and a signed MOA with DENR to undertake the cleaning of the Pasig River - Manila Bay and Laguna Lake.

Lopez explains AFI’s mission and vision in pushing for cleaning up Manila’s major waterway. "The project’s impact is beyond Manila," she said and added, "We have 400 river systems in the country, and we have to act together. This project shows there is a way." She also mentioned that the project has symbolic benefits, that Pasig River is part of our history. "Tagalog actually comes from the word, ‘taga-ilog.’ We are essentially river people...But would we want to be called mga taga-ilog na madumi?"

"These are three mammoth projects - and I have jupitarean confidence - that much can be accomplished. I have good government partners - and the power that comes from great dreams that benefit a multitude," Lopez stated.

"We, in the ABS-CBN Foundation are truly blessed - and we are looking forward to ever greater partnership with our stakeholders - and with the rest of our Kapamilya as we continue - no holds barred - to let our country realize its and our dreams."

Other programs espoused by the foundation are the Bantay Bata (Child Watch), a 24-hour child abuse rescue operation, Educational TV (ETV), a value formation and curriculum enhancement program for public elementary school children and Sagip Kapamilya (Saving the Family Members), a calamity relief and rehabilitation program.
