Kris Aquino reacts to COMELEC’s statement on artists endorsing presidential candidates

Many celebrities and electoral candidates have reacted against Comission on Elections (COMELEC) and Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) statement that artists should take a leave of absence from their work if they choose to endorse someone, basing it on Republic Act 9009 or Fair Election Act.

Presidentiable Noynoy Aquino’s sister, Kris Aquino has finally spoken up about this controversial issue and deems this quite unfair. In a statement, she vents that everyone has a right to participate in the country’s democratic process.

"The COMELEC wants artists who are actively participating in the campaign to take a leave or be jailed. Since when has it been wrong to make a stand for what you believe? What is so wrong in wanting to take an active role in our democratic process?

"If it's wrong to care about the Philippines and practice my constitutional right to free speech and my freedom to vote, then jail me and let's go back to the dark days of Martial Law!"

Senator Aquino also plans to file a petition in the Supreme Court and says that the rules regarding the Fair Election Act should be clarified for it is like abridging the freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
