Now that she has an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN, Gretchen Barretto is even more excited to start working on her teleserye project with Bea Alonzo and Derek Ramsay because she feels that she is finally making something substantial. “Na-miss ko ‘yung paggawa ng teleserye, paggawa ng pelikula. Parang feeling ko andito lang ako sa show business pero wala talagang anything na solid para sabihing artista ako or talagang singer dahil paganun-ganon lang ako. So ngayon artista na po ako,” she said with a giggle.
She shared that she is now more motivated than ever to prove that she has more to offer as an artist. “Pagkatapos akong bigyan ng pagkakataon na manalo ng first [kong] best actress award for a single performance (for an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya) na-inspire ako na magtrabaho pa lalo at ibigay talaga nang todo kung ano pang kaya kong ibigay para sa publiko. Ayoko namang nandito lang ako sa showbiz na parang panggulo lang, pampasaya lang. Siyempre gusto ko may pan-drama rin.”
Gretchen said candidly that people can expect better acting from her because she does not want to disappoint them after waiting for so long for her project, which was originally scheduled to air last year. “Gusto ko kasi makita ng tao kung paano ako magtrabaho, kung gaano ako kasipag at kung gaano ako ka-excited na bumalik sa show business. After all, I’ve been here for like half of my life so gusto kong bumalik at paligayahin ang mga tao na naghintay ng matagal para sa teleserye na ito.”
She further assured that the soap opera’s story is something different from the other soap operas. “Na-excite ako talaga sa script dahil alam ko kakaiba. It’s something na ‘pag hindi ako ang artista papanoorin ko pa rin. Gusto ko i-present sa mga tao ‘yung gugustuhin ko ring panoorin kahit hindi ako ‘yung arista." She added that people should watch out not only for good performances, but also great dialogues. "Makikita nila ‘yung bagong Gretchen Barretto.”
Much like in real life, La Greta’s role in the teleserye is a socialite, which she says will show another side of her. “Ang kakaiba lang makikita nila ‘yung emotions ni Gretchen Barretto na ang isang socialite, ang isang model at isang mayaman ay tao rin na nagkakaproblema, umiiyak rin at may issues din sa buhay. Hindi porke’t mayaman ‘yung tao o maganda, ibig sabihin wala na siyang problema sa buhay, wala na siyang pinagdadaanan na sitwasyon.”
Gretchen revealed that she and Bea have recently started doing workshops and camera tests together in preparation to their upcoming project.
