MANILA, Philippines - Following a 4-day break on account of the Christian Holy Week, Filipinos can look forward to another long holiday weekend this April.
President Arroyo issued Proclamation 1841 in July last year, which laid out the holiday schedule for 2010. The annual commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9, a regular non-working holiday, falls on a Friday.
However, the next holiday for the year -- Labor Day (May 1) -- falls on a Saturday. See the list here
The government has long been implementing holiday economics to boost local tourism and to allow Filipinos to have more time with their families. In 2008, Malacanang made a last-minute declaration of an 11-day break from December 25 to January 2.
