Gimik is a Filipino television series starring Rico Yan, Patrick Garcia, Diether Ocampo, Jolina Magdangal, G. Toengi,Rica Peralejo, Mylene Dizon, Bojo Molina, Dominic Ochoa, Kaye Abad, Kristopher Peralta, Paula Peralejo, John Lloyd Cruz, LJ Moreno and Marvin Agustin. The series aired between June 15, 1996 and February 10, 1999.
The series was later adapted to a film called Gimik: The Reunion.
Origins
The series was originally created as part of ABS-CBN's 40th Anniversary.[1] The series, which was patterned Beverly Hills, 90210[2], first aired June 15, 1996. Gimik originally aired on 4 pm, Saturdays, rivalling VIVA's T.G.I.S. which airs in the rival channel GMA. The show last aired on February 10, 1999 in ABS-CBN
Star Magic-Regal conflict
In the middle of season one, Andy was written off the show due to a conflict between Star Magic and Regal Entertainment. Andrea Blaesi, managed by Star Magic, was a contract actor of Regal Entertainment at that time.
Judy Ann's absence
In the later part of season 1 and whole of season 2 Judy Ann Santos became a recurring star due to her hectic schedule in taping the soap opera Esperanza, but in the final season Judy Ann officially left the show.
Additional Cast
Several Star Magic talents made guest appearances in the show. In 1999, the show was revamped and the characters of Rica Peralejo, Baron Geisler, Kristine Hermosa, Paula Peralejo, Dominic Ochoa, Carlos Agassi, Laura James, John Lloyd Cruz and Cheska Garcia where added.
Rica Peralejo joined Gimik when her contract with the rival show T.G.I.S. expired.
Film Adaptation
A film adaptation title Gimik: The Reunion was later made, retaining all the main characters. Judy Ann (Dianne Villaruel) made a special appearance in the latter part of the film. Kristine Hermosa and Dominic Ochoa, a regular cast since 1998, made a cameo appearance in the film. In Gimik: The Reunion, Kristine Hermosa portrayed a different character, an girl named as Sweetiepie — Joey's other girlfriend while chatting on the internet, while Dominic Ochoa portrayed the role of a Taxi Driver instead of reprising the role of Eric Abesamis.
Television comeback
On the ABS-CBN 2010 Trade Launch, the station surprised the viewers on revealing that the show will return on television on 2010. The story cycles on the adult life of the characters as they journey through adulthood, family life and love problems. And rumoredly, some of ABS-CBN's freshest talents will join the cast.
