Melisa Cantiveros earns herself a slot in the Big 4

The three contenders for the Big 4 slot bravely faced Kuya’s endurance challenge: to stand atop a small platform in the middle of the pool for an undefined number of hours. No excuses were accepted to leave their roost. The three had to grit their teeth and hold against the call of nature, even if it was to relieve or feed themselves.

They had various strategies for keeping their post. Melai distracted herself with singing, Tibo chose minimal movement, Paul Jake massaged his frozen joints. All three tried stretching their limbs by crouching, taking care not to let other body parts touch the platform, aside from their feet. They kept warm from the sharp nip of the air by layering clothing and blankets. Nine hours after, all three were still standing strong.

The remaining housemates kept vigil over them, camping by the poolside. They kept the stories flowing and regaled their friends with jokes. Jason led the rest in an ongoing serenade. They cheered the three on and kept them going. For what or for whom did they endure such sacrifice? Paul Jake and Melai did it for themselves, their family and those who believed in them. Tibo thought nothing of himself, but offered the moment for his family.

A few minutes past the ninth hour and Kuya decided to push the housemates harder: only one leg was allowed on top of the platform! Though shifting legs was allowed, they had to focus on keeping their balance along with dealing with fatigue and natural factors. After a few moments, Kuya granted them a minute of rest, after which his instructions got even harder. Only the best leg could be used, with no shifting allowed.

Paul Jake could feel his strength waning, and apologized minutes before he plopped into the water. It’s been a hard day’s night for all three, but soon it was down to Melai and Tibo, standing on their best leg to the end. After another bout of rest, Kuya ups the challenge by making them lift their arms, too! Almost an hour passed with both holding on tight, but in the end, Tibo chooses to give up, leaving Melai as the last housemate standing! Too exhausted, Melai broke down in tears while the rest finally got to heave a sigh of relief.

Looks like we have one slot filled for the Big Four! Who will own the remaining three, just wait and see. Stay glued to the portals and keep watching PBB Double Up!

Ex-PBB housemate Cathy Remperas speaks up about Rica Paras and Paul Jake Castillo

In her reunion with other ex-housemates as part of the Resbak Attack weekly task in Pinoy Big Brother Double Up, Cathy Remperas learned many revelations about the outside world. The first was that in Rica Paras’s interview on The Buzz, she had said that she was mad at Cathy for nominating her because she was too loud. Rica had even joked that she would shave Cathy’s head should they cross paths. Cathy, who was treated by Rica as a good friend inside Kuya’s house, recently explained to ABS-CBN.com that the nomination process is nothing personal. “Ang totoo sa loob ng bahay ang hirap talagang mag-isip ng reason tuwing nomination. That week napansin ko na sumobra na ‘yung ingay nina Rica at Melisa. ‘Yun na lang ‘yung agad kong naisip. Maingay naman talaga kasi sila. Maraming beses na sinabihan na namin sila na matulog na pero patuloy pa rin ‘yung ingay nila. I was thinking she would be mature enough na i-control ‘yung ingay niya. Also the nomination is nothing personal. For me kahit i-nominate mo ako hindi ako magagalit. Ang nomination is part of being a housemate and it won’t be a reason for me para kalimutan ko ‘yung friendship natin.”

For Rica, the nomination she received from Cathy apparently bothered her since she refused to speak to the Cathy and even returned a shirt that the latter lent her. “Nung sa makita kong pumasok ‘yung mga ex-housemates sa House B, si Rica hindi niya ako pinansin. Tapos sa bedroom bigla na lang niya akong nilapitan, sinoli niya ‘yung shirt na pinahiram ko sa kanya. Tinanong ko kung bakit, sabi niya, ‘I don’t like you. I can’t trust you.’ Nagulat ako kasi hindi ko ine-expect na marinig ‘yun kasi naging close kami talaga. Ang bigat ng feeling for me. Tumahimik ako then inisip ko ‘yung mga nasabi ko sa kanya. Naisip ko baka sa nomination siya nagalit.”

Before the week was over though, Cathy and Rica had the chance to talk things out. “Next morning tinanong ko siya kung bakit, ‘yun nga sabi niya na I nominated her dahil maingay siya. I explained na maingay naman talaga kasi siya. Disappointed siya kasi she expected na friends kami. I said sorry naman kung ganun ang nararamdaman niya and she said hindi naman siya nagko-close ng door para maging friends uli kami. Sana totoo ‘yun. Sana dito sa labas maging friends uli kami, makilala pa niya ako at makilala ko pa siya.”

Another thing that the 22-year-old nurse from Bohol heard from the other ex-housemates was that Paul Jake Castillo referred to her as a social climber. Cathy confronted Paul Jake about it during the Resbak Attack task, but the latter insisted he didn’t call her as such.

Paul Jake was Cathy's crush inside the house and she confessed to ABS-CBN.com that the Cebuano hunk was actually her type. “Gusto ko ‘yung mata niya, chinito. Gusto ko rin ‘yung full lips niya. May pagka-suplado kasi ‘yung dating niya, e ‘yun ang gusto ko sa mga guys. Tsaka malinis si Paul Jake sa katawan. Ganun siguro ang mga mayayaman, pero wala namang masama dun. Ang cool din niya kumilos, easy lang.”

Cathy was happy that she had the chance to confess her feelings to Paul Jake. However, she knows she can’t expect anything more since Paul Jake is already taken.

Is Kim Chiu ready to do sexier scenes?

Kim Chiu feels overwhelmed with the success of her and Gerald Anderson’s movie Paano Na Kaya. The movie hit ten million pesos on its first day. "Sobrang masaya kami kasi sabi andami daw tao sa mga sinehan, sa Cebu sabi ng kuya ko andami din daw tao tsaka nagsisigawan so parang ang sarap ng feeling kasi yung pinaghirapan namin nabigyan ng pansin kaya sobrang gaan ng feeling."

When Kim Chiu was asked what was the part of the film she can relate to the most in real life she said, "Nung una kaming nag-meet sa PBB (Pinoy Big Brother), medyo masungit ako sa kanya kasi (ang tingin ko sa kanya) ang sungit sungit, amboy-amboy (American boy), ang yabang kaya ayun, ang parang parehas sila noon ng character niya sa movie."

While they are still celebrating the success of Paano Na Kaya, they are already asked to do two more movies under Star Cinema. Kim and Gerald signed respective contracts yesterday, January 28. "Masaya kami dahil malakas pa rin yung tiwala ng Star Cinema sa amin. Super excited kami (although) hindi pa po namin alam kung magkasama kami sa two movies na yun," Gerald said.

With that, Kim Chui was asked if she is ready to play more mature roles that would require intimate scenes and reveal more skin. "Depende kung papayag sila Mr M (Johnny Manahan) na ganun ka-daring yung movie pero (personally) actually sa ngayon hindi pa (ako ready), actually yung katawan ko hindi pa handa magpa-daring kailangan ko pa mag-gain ng weight para mas maganda siya tingnan," Kim said adding she aims to gain at least 10 lbs. this year. Kim says that she will just follow Star Cinema's lead if the film outfit would pair her with other Kapamilya stars in the two movies offered to her.

As for the real score between the two of them, Kim and Gerald could not escape from answering the question why they are still only friends. "Four years na kami magkasama (since Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition), pero hindi kami nagmamadali," said Gerald. "Tsaka pag may away (kagaya ng) ibang love teams, hindi masyado nakakapagtrabaho ng maayos so parang ayaw namin (na mangyari yun) na maapektuhan yung personal life naminat work namin and mahal namin yung trabaho namin na mas importante sa amin kaysa love life."

Charie Villa to Steer ABS-CBN to the Future of Journalism

Seasoned broadcast journalist Charie Villa is taking on a new challenge as the Head of ABS-CBN’s online news website abs-cbnnews.com and its mobile counterpart, ABS-CBN news mobile starting Monday (Feb 1).

Villa, who headed Reuters’ television group in the Philippines, rejoined ABS-CBN in 2005 as Head of Newsgathering. She helped implement a strict Standards &; Ethics Manual as basis for a comprehensive reorganzation and set the stage for today’s multi-platform news environment.

Villa’s new appointment shows ABS-CBN’s commitment to reach out to its expanding audience worldwide and deliver the news in any platform they prefer, said ABS-CBN senior vice president for news and current affairs Maria Ressa.

“Putting one of our key leaders on new media will trigger a culture change from the ground up. This is a sign of how important we believe new media has -and will- become. It holds the future of journalism,” Ressa said.

Named to another strategic position is Chi Almario-Gonzalez, a veteran print and TV journalist, who is now head of newsgathering for ABS-CBN. Gonzalez was an award-winning investigative reporter for The Manila Times and Today before she joined ABS-CBN in 1997. At ABS-CBN, she has worked as a reporter, producer, and production unit manager, in programs like “TV Patrol,” “The World Tonight,” “Pipol,” and “Kalye.”

Ressa said the twin appointments are part of ABS-CBN’s ongoing reorganization and rethinking as it deals with fast-paced changes in the media. “These indicate that we are preparing for the future and we are sensitive to what the news consumers are looking for,” she added.

In 2007, long before other networks did, ABS-CBN tapped the power of citizen journalists in reporting. It was the first time globally that mobile phone technology and new media were used to push for clean elections.

“That was only a dress rehearsal for this year’s pivotal elections,” said Ressa.

ABS-CBN launched BOTO MO, iPATROL MO: AKO ANG SIMULA one year before the May 10 elections. Now the movement has an army of more than 60,000 “Patrollers” who have been monitoring preparations for the polls and will be ready to be deployed nationwide on election day.

“This is our edge—the combined power of professional and citizen journalism,” Ressa said.

Melissa Ricks denies she’s a ‘playgirl’

First time kong ma-issue nang ganitong katindi.

When you get into a relationship kailangan mong paglaanan ‘yun ng time and gusto ko kapag nagka-boyfriend ako e mabibigyan ko siya ng time na deserve niya.”

Pokwang is happy that Showtime is back on-air

Pokwang renewed her contract with ABS-CBN last Tuesday, January 19. The host-comedienne said that she is lucky that ABS-CBN still gives its trust and support to her. "Masayang masaya ako siyempre kasi I am still a Kapamilya, umaasa ako na maging mas malaki at mas malawak para kay Pokwang ang 2010."Though she admits that she is wishing for more blessings, she said that she is not expecting too much and she will be thankful for whatever God and ABS-CBN will give her. "Bahala na po sa akin ang aking nanay, ang ABS-CBN, kasi sila naman po ang nakakaalam (ng nakakabuti para sa akin), at malaki naman talaga ang tiwala ko sa ABS, hindi pa ba ako magtitiwala sa kabila ng mga blessings na dumating sa akin, if not for ABS-CBN wala ako siguro ngayon dito, kung anong meron ako ngayon na joy sa life."

Pokwang also reveals her upcoming project for Your Song. "May gagawin akong Your Song, "Feb-ibig", yun ang pang February, surprise yun story baka hindi niyo kayanin. Yung leading man ko wish ko lang huwag siya masyado mahulog sa akin dahil ayoko makasira ng relasyon. Clue (kung sino siya is), lalaki siya, napaka-gwapo niya isa sa pinaka-maiinit na leading man ngayon sa ABS-CBN."

Meanwhile, Pokwang opens up about speculations that Wowowee will be reformatted. She said that nothing much will be changed and as far as the Wowowee hosts are concerned they are just anticipating the management's plans for the improvement of their show. "Ang alam ko lang dun babaguhin namin yung set-up ng stage pero kung ano man yung maging decision ng management para sa ikagaganda ng show tanggapin na lang natin, tsaka hindi naman dapat pang sarili mo lang dapat ang iniisip mo dapat yung kapakanan din ng mga manonood."On the other hand, Pokwang is happy to hear the good news about Showtime resuming on-air. She also clarified issues that Wowowee and Showtime has an on-going rivalry. "Masaya kami para sa mga hosts, sila Vhong Navarro, silaKuya Kim Atienza, si Anne Curtis at si Vice Ganda, masaya kami para sa lahat at patuloy ang pagbibigay ng saya sa mga tao at ganun din naman kami sa Wowowee tungkulin din naming mapasaya ang mga tao tsaka iisang network lang tayo, ABS-CBN, dala natin ang pangalan ng ABS-CBN at humahataw tayo pare-pareho sa ratings so be happy na lang."

With that, she gave her message to Showtime's hosts regarding the suspension that the show has gone through. "Mga kapatid, sa lahat sa inyo sa Showtime, enjoy niyo lang yan patuloy kayong magbigay ng saya sa mga tao, deserve niyo talagang matuloy ang trabaho niyong yan at alam kong mahal na mahal ninyo ang Showtime at marami rin nagmamahal sa inyo."

'Showtime' back on air January 19

ABS-CBN's popular morning show "Showtime" is set to be back on air on Tuesday.

In a phone interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Mr. Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, confirmed that the network got hold of a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Court of Appeals allowing the resumption of "Showtime" on January 19.

"Bukas na po (babalik ang 'Showtime'). May TRO effective for 60 days. The preventive suspension order against the program has been lifted," Osorio said.

"Showtime" was given a 20-day preventive suspension by the Movie &; Television Review &; Classification Board (MTRCB) due to controversial remarks made by actress Rosanna Roces against teachers. (link here)

ABS-CBN's official statement on the TRO says:

"Natanggap ng mga abogado ng ABS-CBN ngayong umaga ang resolusyon ng Court of Appeals dated January 15, 2010 na nagsasaad sa huling bahagi nito and we quote, "For reasons afore-stated, and as prayed for by petitioner, let a TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER be issued, as it is hereby issued, effective sixty (60) days from notice hereof, enjoining respondent MTRCB, including any and all persons acting in their behalf and under their command and authority, from continuing to enforce the Preventive Suspension Order dated January 11, 2010 issued against petitioner, pending the resolution of the instant petition." Ang ibig sabihin nito mapapanood na muli ang SHOWTIME sa dati pa ring oras simula bukas, January 19, 2010."

"Showtime" hosts Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz, Kim Atienza, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, and resident judge Vice Ganda became emotional and cried after they announced the news on Monday that the country's hit talent show "Showtime" will be back.

The announcement was made during the latter part of "Magpasikat," a talent show that temporarily replaced "Showtime."

The cause of suspension

It was during the show of "Showtime" last January 7, when judge Rosanna Roces made controversial statements against the show's teachers and co-judge Vice Ganda.

In the episode, Roces described teachers as "repeaters," and encouraged students to be more critical thinkers.

"Huwag kayo makukuntento sa mga itinuturo ng libro at ng teacher. Kung magtatanong kayo, hindi masama iyon. Dahil ang mga teacher, they were just repeaters. Tinuturo lang nila kung ano ang itinuro sa kanila. Hindi na nila itinuturo kung ano ang gusto malaman ng mga bata," she said.

("If you ask questions, that's not bad. Because teachers, they're just repeaters. They just teach what was taught to them. They don't teach what children want to know.")

Her co-judge on the show, Vice Ganda, later reminded the audience that there are many teachers who are good at their profession, and that people should not generalize when they criticize the failures of educators.

Osang was removed from the show by ABS-CBN, but the show was still suspended

On January 8, the show announced that Roces had been removed as a judge of the show, as part of the network's self-regulation.

Despite this, the MTRCB still slapped "Showtime" with a 20-day preventive suspension.

The network then said it would question the need for the preventive suspension of the show since it had already removed Roces as judge.

"A preventive suspension is issued to stop further violations, if there were any committed, or for the interest or welfare of the public. Thus, the network questions the need for said preventive suspension when Rosanna Roces has already been removed from the program," an earlier statement released by the ABS-CBN Corporate Communications department said.

"Showtime is a highly entertaining show watched by many Filipinos. It helps promote and showcase the creativity and talent of kapamilyas nationwide, uplifts their spirit and provides opportunities to improve their lives," it added.

The cast and staff of the show said they were not given any notice of the suspension.

“Magpasikat” & “Showtime” Pareho Lang According to MTRCB, Totoo Ba?

Di pa tapos ang imbestigasyon at appeal ng ABS-CBN concerning the abrupt and so called “unlawful” suspension by the regulatory body sa “Showtime” dahil mukhang midali at walang due process ang pagpataw sa preventive suspension. The suspension was issued to “Showtime” because of the degrading remarks made by Rosanna Roces on the show against teachers on January 4.

Ngayon, nais ng MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) na i-suspend na rin ang pumalit sa nasabing show, ang “Magpasikat.”

According to the representative of MTRCB na si Atty.

“Ang suspension ng Showtime Live i-extend sa Magpasikat Live because they’re one and the same.”

Pero according to ABS-CBN’s legal counsel na si Atty. Maxim Uy, magkaiba raw ang dalawa shows:

Rosanna Roces breaks silence on 'Showtime' controversy

Controversial actress Rosanna Roces was saddened that her remarks on “Showtime” resulted in the 20-day preventive suspension of the ABS-CBN talent show.

The actress pointed out that the Kapamilya network took it upon itself to immediately address the issue even before the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) could call its attention.

Roces has been axed as one of "Showtime's" judges after taking potshots at school teachers during the program's January 7 episode.

Roces, however, maintained that she is not criticizing all teachers. She also argued that she has the liberty “to say whatever I want to say.”

"Nagpapasalamat ako sa ABS-CBN dahil binigyan nila ako ng pagkakataong humingi ng paumanhin sa aking naging pahayag sa ‘Showtime.’ Naramdaman kong nakahanap ako ng tunay na kapamilya sa ABS-CBN dahil hindi nila ako iniwan sa ere. Kung sa ibang network, gaya ng naranasan ko noon, ay iniwan ako at pinabayaang magpaliwanag ng mag-isa," she said.

Like Roces, the show’s hosts - Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro and Kim Atienza - and judge Vice Ganda were disappointed by the MTRCB’s decision.

The Kapamilya network has already taken action to make sure that the popular show will come back on air soon.

According to lawyer Mona Manalo of ABS-CBN legal department, the network filed on Tuesday an appeal before the Court of Appeals.

In its petition, Manalo said the network has asked the court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) and a writ of preliminary injunction to restrain the MTRCB from enforcing its January 11 suspension order.

The network also asked the appellate court to issue a writ of certiorari to set aside the order and to make permanent preliminary injunction.

Standing by its decision

Amid criticisms, the MTRCB, meanwhile, said it is standing by its decision. MTRCB chairwoman Consoliza Laguardia also belied reports that the board did not follow procedures when it issued its suspension order.

According to Laguardia, even before Roces' controversial remarks on teachers, the board already received a complaint regarding the actress' comments directed at fellow judge Vice Ganda.

In a letter dated January 5, Laguardia said she instructed the management of the show to explain why a preventive suspension order should not be slapped on the program.

She said the board finally issued the order after Roces’ 2nd offense.

Laguardia insisted that the board acted within its mandate, adding that the MTRCB can suspend television shows even if the hearings are still ongoing.

The hearing on "Showtime" controversy will begin on January 14. She said the board will take into consideration the network’s action to remove Roces from the show after criticizing the school teachers.

She also assured that the board will comply if the appellate court issues a TRO. -Reports from Marie Lozano and Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News

ABS-CBN Releases Statement on Preventive Suspension of ‘Showtime’

ABS-CBN has just released their official statement regarding the 20-day preventive suspension imposed by MTRCB for their talent variety program “Showtime.”

ABS-CBN’s official statement regarding the issue:

In the spirit of self-regulation, ABS-CBN removed Rosanna Roces as a judge in SHOWTIME after she made statements against the teachers in the January 7 live show (CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO). But despite this, MTRCB still imposed a 20-day preventive suspension for the program.

A preventive suspension is issued to stop further violations, if there were any committed, or for the interest or welfare of the public. Thus, the network questions the need for said preventive suspension when Rosanna Roces has already been removed from the program.

SHOWTIME is a highly entertaining show watched by many Filipinos. It helps promote and showcase the creativity and talent of kapamilyas nationwide, uplifts their spirit and provides opportunities to improve their lives.

Kris Aquino and Freddie Garcia Named ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ Judges

The Queen of all Media and former ABS-CBN President team up in finding the most talented pinoy in the biggest talent search on Philippine television.

Queen of all media Kris Aquino and former ABS-CBN President Freddie Garcia are set to find the next big stars as they have been named judges of the country’s biggest talent and reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” starting February on ABS-CBN.

Kris is elated to work with the former president and chief operating officer of ABS-CBN, whom she described as the “ultimate star maker” responsible for the success of many programs and artists in the entertainment industry.

“When I found about the opportunity to be with the man responsible for the golden age of television, I told myself that I cannot let this opportunity pass me by,” Kris said in reference to Garcia. “PGT will give us a chance to discover new talents and make new stars and Freddie Garcia is the ultimate star-maker.”

Aquino, Garcia, and a third judge will join hosts Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford in visiting five key cities to check out the shortlisted candidates vying to be the first “Pilipinas Got Talent” winner.

When asked how she will be as a judge, Kris said she will be the “most lovable and compassionate judge” and will serve as the “balance” to the judges. Her message to the hopefuls is simple, “Show what you’ve got and do your best because the two minutes you’ll spend can be the biggest break in your life. You can become one of the biggest stars in the country.”

This will soon be put to test as hopefuls from Visayas prove to them that they got talent in the first round of judging to be held on SM Cinema 1 Cebu this coming January 22 and 23 followed by PGT aspirants from Mindanao on January 29 and 30 in Capitol University in Cagayan De Oro City. Hopefuls based on the Greater Manila Area will be screened in Quezon City on February 5 and 6, Southern Luzon in University of Batangas on Feb. 12 and 13, and North and Central Luzon in University Baguio on Feb. 16 and 17.

“Pilipinas Got Talent” premieres February on ABS-CBN.

Teachers question 'Showtime' suspension

Even the teachers themselves are contesting the decision of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to suspend “Showtime,” a popular ABS-CBN talent show.

While it commended MTRCB’s swift action, the Teachers' Dignity Coalition, the first group to denounce Rosanna Roces’ “insulting words,” described the board’s move to suspend the show for 20 days as “too much for a penalty.”

“With the show management’s action ahead of the censors’ board, the network and Ms. Roces herself, indeed, admitted that there were excesses. The removal of Ms. Roces in the hurados and her apology are proofs that the show management is responsible enough to regulate and penalize itself,” the group said in a statement, adding:

“We are in sympathy with the show’s production staff, hosts, other judges, contestants and the viewing public who, in one way or another, have been affected by this controversy.”

Roces has been axed as one of the program’s judges after taking potshots at school teachers in its January 7 live show. She also went on to describe teachers as "repeaters."

“In the spirit of self-regulation,” the Kapamilya network removed the controversial actress from the show. Despite this, the MTRCB has still slapped a 20-day preventive suspension on “Showtime.”

The teachers' group also called for the immediate lifting of the preventive suspension as they argued that Roces’ statements did not “reflect the views of the program, the hosts and the station.”

Also, in its latest statement, the Teachers' Dignity Coalition called on all television personalities to be more sensitive when making comments in front of a camera.

It lamented that Roces’ statements has put them “in an undignified state.”

“If we are sensitive enough to rage against racist comments and scenes from papers and shows abroad, all the more that we have to be vigilant here in our very home,” it said.

‘Without due process’

Talk show host Boy Abunda on Monday also slammed the MTRCB for suspending the ABS-CBN talent show “without due process.”

Abunda pointed out that the agency failed to take note of the network’s action. It did not even conduct any hearing before it suspended the show, he added.

He said these are the issues that the MTRCB must address.

"Ako ay umaasang personal na maayos ito dahil after a thorough study, after a trial na patas, ang ABS-CBN po ay bukas na sumunod kung anuman ang desisyon ng MTRCB," Abunda said.

ABS-CBN is expected to contest the suspension Tuesdday. The MTRCB has set a hearing on the issue on January 14.

Big bang in 2010!

As Star Magic ushers 2010, country’s premiere star maker gives more revelations in its roster of stars. Star Magic stars Piolo Pascual, Kristine Hermosa, Diether Ocampo, Angelica Panganiban, Sam Milby, Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz make a big bang this year.

Piolo Pascual ended 2009 grandly with the success of Lovers in Paris plus the recent Decades album success that has reached top in the billboard chart after its month launch. This Cinemaone One Legend and one of Philippine’s sexiest men is obviously raring to start the year right with series of show here and abroad. He is set to perform for the Hearthrob Tour with Sam Milby, John Lloyd Cruz and Pokwang. He will also be busy campaigning for Hebreo Foundation that he puts up with his siblings. Piolo is definitely back with a new soap soon but to start the year, he is shooting for two episodes of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” where he plays Ninoy Aquino. Another sure hit movie of Piolo with Zaijan Jaranilla under Star Cinema is on the wrap. Piolo plans to produce more films after the success of “Manila” and “Kimmy Dora.” Star Magic’s main man continues his streak as one of the country’s leading endorsers. He’s still the face for Max’s, Sky Travel Luggage, Smart Telecommunications, Bench Apparel and Cologne, Centrum, Century Properties, Banco de Oro, Speed and Belo Medical Clinic.

Kristine Hermosa remains to be a teleserye queen with the top-rating show “Dahil May Isang Ikaw.” She is happy with the results of her latest TV show and she hopes to do more teleseryes soon. A sitcom and a movie are lined-up for this talented young actress. Kristine continues her campaign for Chicnails, DEI Direct Selling,, CNX Cosmetics, Maxipeel, Cinderella and Aeskultura.

Diether Ocampo landed as the third Filipino cover in the December issue of Readers Digest Asia last December. His deeds in helping out kids thru KIDS Foundation was featured in the magazine which he considers his second recognition to date. Diether was chosen by Harvard University to become one of the participants in the school’s On-Campus Conference Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations. Apart from focusing with humanitarian projects, Diether is set to do a teleserye with Angelica Panganiban via “Ruby.” He too remains with his Bench, Bench Fix, Malayan Insurance and Pizza Hut family. He will also be seen in new campaigns around the metro soon.

Angelica Panganiban is in cloud nine after the success of her movie I Love You Goodbye. She is quite raring to sink her acting chops with the remake of Mexican telenovela entitled “Ruby (Ang bidang kontrabida)” where she will be playing an interesting character with Shaina Magdayao, Jake Cuenca and Diether Ocampo. She will however continue to ooze sexiness and show her funny side on ABS-CBN’s comedy show “Banana Split.” This Star Awards nominee for Best Drama Actress and for Best Commedienne will be busy doing shows abroad this year. Angelica remains the endorser of Mario D’ Boro Shoes, The Bar, Swatch, Globe TM, Amira Whitening Cream, Bench Body, Freshlook, Zen Institute, Chikka.com and ABS-CBN Interactive.

Sam Milby is excited for the year ahead. 2009 is another milestone in his career both as a singer and actor. He launched a Star Records collaboration album with Toni Gonzaga tha. After he has proven himself as a dramatic actor with substance in “And I Love You So” and showed his funny side in “Ang Tanging Pamilya,” Sam is doing a Star Cinema movie with Anne Curtis that will hopefully be seen on the big screen on April. His recent TV guesting in “May Bukas Pa” as a disabled businessman has gained high ratings on primetime. After “Only You,” Sam is about to be seen with a new leading lady in “Precious Romance Presents Impostor.” He will be Maja Salvador’s on-screen partner in the series. The Fil-American is also very happy to be the first male celebrity endorser of Folded and Hung. His billboard is seen over the metro and more of his latest pictorial for the brand will be up this year. He does not forget his endorsing duties for Smart Telecommunications, i2i eyewear, Unisilver watches, Dermablend Orange Papaya and KDDI Japan Call Cards.

Bea Alonzo has proven herself as mature young actress after her most acclaimed performance as a widower in her launching movie “And I Love You So.” An exciting Star Cinema movie is on the roll where she will be reunited with John Lloyd Cruz. This cover girl continues her duties as endorser of Kashieca, 4G food supplements, Clear shampoo and Belo Essentials.

John Lloyd Cruz added more feathers on his cap as he remains the box office King. After Star Cinema’s “A Very Special Love,” his follow up movie “You Changed My Life” with Sarah Geronimo made it in the blockbuster. A bigger and bolder John Lloyd was seen in “In My Life” as he delves a gay role with Star for All Season Vilma Santos. Two projects under his homestudio are lined up for him -- a comeback movie with Bea Alonzo and a teleserye with Angel Locsin. Regularly seen in ASAP with the Kanto Boys, John Lloyd will be performing with his all boys group in Waterfront Cebu. He will also be joining the rest of Star Magic artists on March for the Hearthrob Tour. John Lloyd remains the endorser for Lucky Men, Biogesic, Swatch, Natasha, Purefoods Hotdogs, Cherry Mobile, Choco Lava, Lucky Me, Urban Bags, Smart and Greenwich.

The magic continues as the year of the tiger looks more promising for Star Magic and its homegrown talents for they will make headlines this year!
