bagong araw araw araw, bagong pagasa

Piolo and KC is boyfriend-girlfriend!
"Whatever it is siguro we've learned how to really protect what we have,” Piolo Pascual answered when asked about his romantic relationship with KC Concepcion during the turnover of the proceeds of the SunPIOLOgy calendar fundraiser for his family managed Hebreo Foundation.
Image shows Piolo performing during the Sun Life Excellence Awards night held at Rizal Ballroom Shangri-la Makati Hotel last March 24. Themed “A Night of Heroes,” Piolo was named a hero for championing the cause of education.
Piolo did not dilly-dally to add, “I'm not saying we are together. I am not saying we're friends, but it's something we want to nurture. Mas importante sa amin yung relationship namin.”
Read: Piolo wants to protect the relationship. He is defining what they have which more than as a showbiz love team and he’s working hard to make it grow. He does not want to say the overused “We’re just friends” answer because it’s a denial. As a Christian, Piolo does not want to lie or be accused of fibbing. KC and Piolo are more than friends!
How is KC expressing the special relationship?
For her part, KC gave clues in her new Sony Music Entertainment album. She thanked a certain Jose in the dedication for helping mold her and being a big part of her. Who is Jose? KC is a writer and she knows the rule of naming persons fully when mentioned for the first time in a write-up. Why she did not follow? That’s because it’s a private message for Jose. Who is Jose? Piolo! Recall PJ is Piolo’s nickname. Piolo’s real name is Piolo Jose. Jose, therefore, is Piolo. It’s KC’s way of returning the special treatment of Piolo calling her by her real name Kristina.
In the fresh album which is selling like hotcakes in Odyssey music stores now is KC’s self-penned song entitled “Worth the Wait.” The song speaks of longing, waiting, being patient, hiding and in the end proclaiming that the subject matter is “worth the wait.”
In a magazine interview, KC was asked what’s the sweetest thing a guy ever did for her. She replied that the guy waited for her for five years. Five years elapsed since KC and Piolo’s first try to have a romantic link in 2004. They were traumatized when they tried when she turned 18. People intervened in the budding relationship as Judy Ann Santos was being pushed desperately as Piolo’s love tandem.
This is the reason this time around, Piolo and KC don’t want their relationship to be a showbiz issue. They are fully aware –- and avoiding it -- they are in a world where the moment you say you are an item, the next headline is the break or worst, it’s used to promote a showbiz project or their career. This is the reason both refused to claim they are boyfriend-girlfriend for the promotion of “Lovers In Paris” even as the promo peg did so.
That was five years ago.
Taken in the context of their Christian beliefs at Victory Church, Piolo and KC is courting. Action speaks louder than words. As Christians, they subscribe to the belief that the romance stage is like a long courtship, a process where two people test their compatility. They won’t say they are committed or together until they are already talking about marriage. This is very unlike the usual practice today where a male and a female are just dating and they are considered boyfriend-girlfriend.
The clincher here is that publicly KC and Piolo are both single. Since Piolo courted her, KC has been single for the longest time even as the promotion slants of her movie projects desperately linked her to the leading man, for example, Richard Gutierrez. This is the longest period she has not had a boyfriend after director Lino Cayetano. For his part, Piolo has been without a real love interest being a firm believer in having one special woman in his life and he chose that to be KC.
An open tandem
Sun Life Financial Philippines (SLFP) donated a cheque in the amount of P584,352 to Hebreo Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Piolo Pascual with education as its main advocacy. The money came from the proceeds of SunPIOLOgy 2010, a desktop calendar produced by Sun Life Financial that features Pascual’s first photography collection.
“SunPIOLOgy is testament to the generosity of Piolo Pascual and those who supported our worthy cause. For 115 years now, Sun Life has been in the business of securing the future of Filipinos, and supporting the noble principle of education thru this project is in line with our own ideals,” said SLFP president and chief executive officer Riza Mantaring.
The calendar showcased another passion of one of today’s most bankable leading men, featuring photos taken during his many travel sojourns. It documented the jet-setting lifestyle of the heartthrob, from the set of the hit TV drama “Lovers in Paris” to family vacations in China. His pictures also offered a peek into his personal observations and contemplations, like a climb to Mt. Pulag and a relaxing hammock in Batangas.
“This project with Sun Life opened new doors for me to share my interest in photography. But more than this, I am grateful to my Sun Life family for making Hebreo Foundation the beneficiary of our collaboration,” shared Piolo.
This partnership continues with the launch of P.A. TXT card, an easy and affordable insurance protection product that can be activated through mobile phones. Moreover, the 2011 SunPIOLOgy edition is now underway. Hebreo Foundation remains the beneficiary of these upcoming projects.
Sun Life Financial (SLF) is an international leader in protection and wealth management with key operations in Canada, US, UK, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, India, China, Bermuda and the Philippines. Using the ticker symbol “SLF,” Sun Life Financial Inc. trades on the Toronto (TSX), New York Stock (NYSE) and Philippine Stock Exchanges (PSE).
BREAKING BUZZ: The next Piolo and Sun Life fundraiser will be in diary form.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON SHOWTIME SUSPENSION
The decision was not totally unexpected. The MTRCB committee hearing the case could not have contradicted the Chairman who had earlier issued a preventive suspension order of Showtime.
ABS-CBN questioned the validity of the preventive suspension order and filed a complaint with the Ombudsman against the MTRCB chairman for violation of the anti-graft and corrupt practices act.
The MTRCB decision is not final and executory. ABS-CBN disagrees with the decision and will appeal such to the Office of the President.

MTRCB suspends 'Showtime' for 1 month
The Movie & Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB) has ordered a 1-month suspension of ABS-CBN's hit talent show "Showtime."
In its ruling, the MTRCB said the uncalled for utterances of actress Rosanna Roces in the episodes aired on January 4 and 7, 2010 violated its rules and regulations.
The suspension also applies to "Magpasikat, the show that temporarily replaces "Showtime" when it's not on air, and any other similar shows.
The MTRCB also directed the filing of criminal charges against Florida Tan, ABS-CBN vice-president for programming, and other officers "responsible for the violation."
In an official statement sent to abs-cbnNEWS.com, Bong R. Osorio, head of ABS-CBN's Corporate Communications said the MTRCB's decision is not yet final. He said the network will appeal the decision before the Office of the President.
He said the penalty cannot be enforced yet, despite the fact that the decision states it is "effective immediately."
"The decision was not totally unexpected. The MTRCB committee hearing the case could not have contradicted the Chairman, who had earlier issued a preventive suspension order of Showtime," Osorio said.
"ABS-CBN questioned the validity of the preventive suspension order and filed a complaint with the Ombudsman against the MTRCB chairman for violation of the anti-graft and corrupt practices act."
"The MTRCB decision is not final and executory. ABS-CBN disagrees with the decision and will appeal such to the Office of the President. Meantime, SHOWTIME goes on!," Osorio said.
Suspension
Last January, the MTRCB placed "Showtime" on a 20-day preventive suspension after Roces made controversial statements against teachers and co-judge Vice Ganda.
In the episode, Roces encouraged students who appeared on the show to ask questions from their teachers. She went on to describe teachers as "repeaters."
"Huwag kayo makukuntento sa mga itinuturo ng libro at ng teacher. Kung magtatanong kayo, hindi masama iyon. Dahil ang mga teacher, they were just repeaters. Tinuturo lang nila kung ano ang itinuro sa kanila. Hindi na nila itinuturo kung ano ang gusto malaman ng mga bata," she said.
(If you ask questions, that's not bad. Because teachers, they're just repeaters. They just teach what was taught to them. They don't teach what the children want to know.)
Her co-judge on the show, Vice Ganda, later reminded the audience that there are many good teachers, and that people should not generalize when they criticize the failures of educators.
Osang removed but show still suspended
On January 8, ABS-CBN announced that Roces had been removed as a judge of the show, as part of the network's self-regulation policy.
Despite this, the MTRCB still slapped Showtime with a 20-day preventive suspension.
For almost a week, "Magpasikat," replaced Showtime in its noon time slot until a court granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Court of Appeals against the 20-day preventive suspension by the MTRCB.
On January 18, Kapamilya's "Showtime" was back on air.

Angel: Imortal is about a woman na hindi tumatanda. I will play dual roles
So, she finally has work? "Yes, at nagkasabay pa nga sa taping ng new soap ko with John Lloyd Cruz, 'Imortal.' Kaya after mabakante ako for almost a year na nakakainip talaga, heto't maglalagari ako sa movie at sa soap na ididirek naman nina Chito Roño and Jerry Sineneng."
Is 'Imortal' a remake of a film starring Vilma Santos? "No. It's different. The story is about a woman na hindi tumatanda. I will play dual roles."
How can she start the movie with Aga when he has yet to finish his movie with Regine? "By next month, kahit di pa tapos ang Regine movie, basta magi-start na si Aga ng movie niya with Angel," Manay Ethel declares.
We know Ethel doesn't want to handle any more talents? How come she accepted Angel? "Honestly, up to now, di ko pa alam. Basta I'm hoping na mabait sana talaga siya in the true sense of the word. So far, no complaints yet. Basta ang sabi ko sa kanya, ayoko ng sinungaling."
Did Angel really backed out of 'Kokey'? "No. Nagulat na nga lang ako and I was the last one to know. Sinabi lang sa'kin ni Tita Ethel. Yun pala, they pulled me out kasi nga magi-start na ang movie ko and the new soap."
Luis Manzano is very open in saying he wants to win her back, but it seems she's not reciprocating him. "At least, binababa ko na siya ngayon, nag-uusap na kami, wala nang bastusan. Hindi kasi naging smooth ang breakup namin. Nasaktan talaga ko."
What's the cause of their breakup? "Unfair kung babalikan ko pa ang issue kasi si Luis, hindi rin naman nagsalita. Ang importante, mas comfortable na uli kami sa isa't isa. Hindi kami nagmamadali."
Some folks say it's because she's on with Chito, the vocalist of Parokya ni Edgar. "We're friends, masaya siyang kasama, but walang ligawan sa amin. Kaya nga nagugulat kaming kami na raw. Dedma na lang."

Trivia King Faces Cobra King in ‘Matanglawin’
Kim Atienza will fly down south to Davao to search for the two most treacherous animals in the city—the Banakon or the King Cobra, and the Ostrich— this Sunday (Mar 28) in “Matanglawin.”
The country’s Trivia King will go to a damp and dingy forest to hunt down the venomous animal that has taken the lives of more than five people in the area. He will again put himself to the test when he finds out how dangerous this animal is.
Meanwhile, he will also visit the Tagum Farm in Davao and see for himself how fast, how big and how terrifying the ostrich really is. Ostriches can go as tall as nine feet, can run 70km/hour or equivalent to a speeding car in EDSA, and yet Kuya Kim wants to challenge an adult ostrich to a running match.
Don’t miss all these intense happenings in “Matanglawin” this Sunday (Mar 28), 11 Am on ABS-CBN.

Global distributors at HK FILMART eye RP's first 3-D animated movie
The Philippines’ first 3-D animated feature film, “RPG,” and the television series, “Lobo,” are the top enquiries from among ABS-CBN Global content at the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) that’s ongoing at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre up to March 25.
According to ABS-CBN International Sales Manager Pia Y. Bacungan, the screeners [a sample from a TV episode or a movie] they have of “RPG” ran on the first day of the exhibit.
“The poster and flyers of these two are appealing enough so there’s no need to hard-sell them. Although nothing is guaranteed at this point, clients don’t ask for screeners if they are not interested, [otherwise] these become [added] weight to their luggage,” she said.
“Lobo” entices distributors mostly because of its recent achievements. For example, “Lobo” female lead Angel Locsin was nominated for Best Actress at the 37th International Emmy Awards. The show also won for Best Telenovela Program at the Banff World Television Festival in Canada last year.
“Lobo” had just finished airing in Brunei. It is expected to hit TV screens in Indo-China, Asia, Europe, and Africa in 2010.
“It helps that Filipino actors are really beautiful. We are really eye-catching people—and who doesn’t want that, regardless of what culture you’re from?
“More than that, though, is the universal storyline of our teleseryes. We do not delve on controversial subjects, but about family and the need to be loved and to find love,” explained Bacungan.
“RPG” tells the story of a boy who was sucked inside a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Its musical score is by Filipino musical arranger Gerard Salonga who has been tapped several times to conduct for the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
The storyline of “Lobo” centers on siblings who are both able to transform into wolves. Its leading man is Filipino actor Piolo Pascual.
The distributors who attended the FILMART this year come from around Asia, US, and Europe. A few days back, Reena de Guzman Garingan, head of International Sales and Distribution (ISD) of ABS-CBN Global, shared in Manila that some ABS-CBN teleseryes will be shown on a multiple time slot in Africa.
ABS-CBN researches on the culture and demographics of a territory before they present their shows to prospective clients. They are especially careful when dealing with distributors who are eyeing to air the shows in Muslim countries.
“Cultural sensitivity, [those are the] key words. Like, we can’t show them a scene shot inside a church. For Filipinos, that’s ordinary but that's taboo in Muslim countries,” Bacungan cites.
There are ways to resolve the dilemma: ABS-CBN either edits out the “delicate” scenes or they call the sale off.
“It’s not just about making money. After all, we have to protect the intention and integrity of our shows, too,” she said.
Other titles from ABS-CBN that are being offered at FILMART this year are “Lobo” (re-titled “She Wolf: The Last Sentinel”), “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (“Destined Hearts”), “Tayong Dalawa” (“The Two Of Us”), and the Star Cinema movies “I Love You, Goodbye” and “Paano Ko Sasabihin?”
The most successful ABS-CBN export so far is “Pangako Sa Yo” (known abroad as “The Promise”). The Kristine Hermosa-Jericho Rosales starrer has aired in 2,000 channels in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and South Africa; and it has captured 1.3 billion viewers worldwide so far.
FILMART is a yearly event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. It aims to promote Hong Kong as the regional hub for distribution and production of film, TV programs and entertainment-related products in Asia Pacific, as well as to develop and strengthen cross-media and cross-business partnerships.
The Hong Kong International Film and TV Market is one of nine events that are part of this year’s Entertainment Expo in Hong Kong that runs from March 21 to April 6, 2010. The other events are the Asian Film Awards; the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards; the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Award; the Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum; the Hong Kong Music Fair; the Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony; the Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum and the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Anne Curtis: I feel disrespected
Actress-host Anne Curtis said Wednesday she felt disrespected and disheartened over the publication of the photo of her "wardrobe malfunction" in Boracay on tabloids and on the web.
"I really feel upset [that] it's coming out. Sana they had a little respect man lang," Curtis said in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News.
The young actress said the incident was just an accident, and she was not expecting it to spread in the Internet.
Curtis, who was wearing a bikini, was dancing on stage when the right part of her top folded and accidentally showed her right breast.
The photo, which went viral on social networks such as Facebook, also landed in different gossip sites, blogs and tabloids.
The wardrobe malfunction happened while she was taping for the summer special episode of musical variety show “ASAP XV” in Boracay.
Sam to the rescue
Sam Milby, her former boyfriend, rushed to comfort the actress, who was shaking and crying after the dance number.
Curtis said before the dance number she even used double-sided tape to secure the top of her bikini.
"Hindi naman talaga maiiwasan, but to upload it or to even spread it, that's what makes me sad. Nakaka-dishearten na may mga taong ganoon. Bakit nila kailangang gawin sa akin ito?"
She said she was already ashamed of what happened. What made the situation even worse was when some people circulated the photo, she added.
Exposed breast
She said she was angry and she felt violated when the photo spread. Some tabloids did not event attempt to cover or blur out her exposed breast when they published the picture, she lamented.
She said this is not allowed even in Hollywood.
“Nakakalungkot ‘yong ginawa ninyo. Sana nakakatulog kayo ng maayos at sana masaya sila sa ginagawa nila,” she said.
The actress said that it would be up to Viva Communications Inc. and ABS-CBN to decide what legal action to take against those who published her photo.
She said she will support it if Viva decides to pursue a case against those who published and uploaded the picture. “Kasi pagkatao ko ‘yon. Ako ‘yon, katawan ko ‘yon… Sa tingin ko, wala silang puso sa ginawa nilang ganoon.”
Moving on
She called on the people who were able to take a shot of the incident using their camera phones to delete it. She also appealed to those who uploaded the photo to take it down from their site and blogs.
While conceding that “this is not something to be proud of,” Curtis said the only thing that she can do now is to “move on” and hope that ‘”it will pass already.”
“I’m not proud ‘yong nangyaring ‘yon. Sobra nga akong nalungkot at kinabahan sa nangyari kaya ako naiyak after ‘ASAP’…. nakakalungkot talaga na pinagpye-pyestahan pa ng mga tao. Hindi ko naman gusto ‘yon. Kahit sinong babae ayaw mangyari ‘yon sa kanila,” she said.
She noted that there is no use “crying over spilled milk,” and that she hopes other people would also forget the incident.
No publicity stunt
The actress made the statement with Milby, her leading man in the upcoming movie "Baby, I Love You."
Like Curtis, Milby said it was “extremely disrespectful” to publish the photo.
Milby denied the wardrobe malfunction was just part of a publicity stunt for the upcoming movie.
"Who would want to expose themselves for a publicity stunt? Anne has never exposed herself. I don't think that she is really elated," Milby said, dismissing the rumors raised by the tabloids.
He also made this appeal to the public: “Sana you guys will have respect. Kung nanay mo ‘yon, sister mo, family members, siyempre you wouldn’t want that to come out. Sana if you do have a picture, you won’t release it.”

ABS-CBN drama series also popular in Asia, Africa
ABS-CBN's homegrown entertainment programs have been brought to a broader global audience via the pioneering efforts of ABS-CBN Global’s International Sales and Distribution (ISD).
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, ISD head Reena Garingan says ABS-CBN has already sold around 30 television drama series in different parts of the world like China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia as well as in Africa.
She says ABS-CBN shows sell well because they bring hope and inspire people.
"We are trying to come up with programs that are universally accepted, no matter what religion, no matter what culture or race you have, Importante yong nararamdaman ang drama," says Garingan.
Like the Philippines, Garingan says these countries also have poor people hoping for improvements in their lives.
"Ang mga bansa na naghihirap, that are economically and politically unstable, these are the countries that would like to watch...Kasi hirap na sila at gusto nilang makapanood na nakaka-relate sila, at kapag pinapanood ay may hope. They see characters, portrayed by beautiful stars, are actually their lives or the lives of their neighbors. Kaya they keep on watching because there's hope [in these shows]," she says.
High ratings
To prove that Kapamilya's shows are being embraced worldwide, Garingan says these shows get high ratings in these countries.
Recently, “Pangako sa ‘Yo" ("The Promise"), aired on China’s national television, was rated second in overall local and foreign programs. This was 10 years after Filipinos became attached to the Kristine Hermosa-Jericho Rosales tandem.
The classic teleserye appealed to the Chinese audience and even hit the Top 30 list in national weekly rankings covering over 2,000 channels and capturing 1.3 billion viewers.
'Pangako Sa 'Yo" also captured the hearts of people in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and even Africa.
As Cambodian Nai Hiu Mei recounts: “The teleserye, broadcasted here with Khmer dubbing, was so popular that many Cambodian babies are named Angelo.”
The Times of Zambia writer Meluse Kapatamoyo wrote: “The series has become a topic of discussion among families, friends and even neighbors who daily ponder on how the show would end.”
René Lötter of One Africa Television said: “When is Pangako sa ’Yo coming back?’ I wish I could get a dollar each time I get that question. From teenager to grandma, from household organizers to tax consultant – it’s gripped people across all genders.”
Hits in China
Aside from “Pangako sa ‘Yo” (known internationally as “The Promise”), other Kapamilya shows have also been brought to the global audience. These include "“Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin” (a.k.a. “Only You”), which is being carried by the biggest province in mainland China and airing on primetime.
Meanwhile, “Sana Maulit Muli” (a.k.a. “Chances”), “Maging Sino Ka Man” (a.k.a. “More Than Love”), and “Gulong ng Palad” (a.k.a. “Stand for Love”) are expected to be aired in China soon.
Also earning international recognition worldwide is the Angel Locsin-Piolo Pascual starrer "Lobo” (a.k.a. “She-Wolf: The Last Sentinel”).
In the recently concluded 2009 International Emmy® Awards, “She-Wolf” was recognized for the stellar performance of Angel Locsin, who received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress.
This recognition was the second for the show. It won the Best Telenovela award at the 30th BANFF World Television Festival in Toronto, Canada last year.
"She-Wolf" is currently enjoying wide viewership in Brunei, and it is anticipated to be released in other countries in Asia, Europe and Africa this year.
Subtitled and dubbed
ABS-CBN shows are subtitled and dubbed in several languages, including English, Turkish, Khmer, Mandarin, and French.
One of the programs dubbed in French is “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” (a.k.a. “La Longue Attente” in French and “The Long Wait” in English), which will cater to French-speaking viewers in Africa and Europe.
For more than a decade, ISD has been the premiere source of top quality programs from the Philippines, making ABS-CBN Global the first and the biggest Philippine content distributor in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia-Pacific, and the leading Asian distributor in Africa.
Through ISD, Garingan says Kapamilya shows have become so popular among non-Filipinos that ABS-CBN is now regarded as a market mover and thought-leader in the field of broadcasting in Africa.
Garingan recently attended a content and distribution forum and spoke before leading journalists and broadcasters in Africa. She discussed the social and ethical responsibilities of media professionals.
"Ang aim ng ABS-CBN Global is not only to reach the Filipino people all over the world, pero pati yong mga non-Filipino na who will make us proud of what we are doing," Garingan says. "I'd like to think that we bring enjoyment to the local viewers and we bring hope to a lot of them."

ABS-CBN set to launch summer station ID
Welcome the season of summer with more than 150 Kapamilya stars as ABS-CBN officially launches its highly anticipated summer station ID (SID) dubbed as "Summer ang Simula" this Sunday on "ASAP XV."
According to ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management (CCM) Head Robert Labayen, the concept is anchored on the idea of summer as the perfect time to enjoy and at the same time to gear up for change.
"Every summer day is the perfect time for new beginnings. Every day is a chance to be pro-active, to help save the environment, to promote livelihood, and to look at the world we live in, in a brand new light," said Labayen.
Witness ABS-CBN's sought after entertainment and news personalities involve themselves in activities on different platforms such of Boto Mo, I-Patrol Mo, Bayanijuan, and other ABS-CBN Foundation programs like Sagip Kapamilya, Kapit Bisig sa Ilog Pasig, and E Media.
