“ASAP XV,” the original party!

“ASAP XV” is television’s longest running noontime musical show party, long before the party craze of GMA7’s “Party Pilipinas” and TV5’s “Party on 5!” ASAP is the acronym for “All-Star Sunday Afternoon Party,” making it the original party.

What’s the Sunday noontime party quotient now?

As it stands, “ASAP XV” is still the leader but “Party Pilipinas” is the on-the-move party to beat. “PO5” is the tailender as the Kapatid network is grooming it as “Wowowee” and “Eat…Bulaga’s” competitor. “ASAP XV” must introduce an innovation that will beat “Party Pilipinas.” But most likely, “ASAP XV” will wait and see until when “Party Pilipinas” hopping show will keep up.

It will also take more than tab writers to rave “ASAP XV” to make the praises believable. We know they can be made to write almost anything with the right motivation. It needs new acts more than the Angel Locsins & Luis Manzanos and their self-generated publicities & awards by publicity writers to fuel up fresh enthusiasm for itself.

Rating is not a sufficient indication. The vet show is doing very close to the newbie show. It you consider the plus or minus error of margin, they practically end up with no difference! So where is “ASAP XV’s” rating advantage over “Party Pilipinas?”

But as far as STIR (Showbiz Talk + Intriguing Reports) is concerned, “ASAP XV” is still the best party! Helmer Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan can come up with something new. It’s probably a matter of time

‘Failon Ngayon’ Probes on Alleged Aquino-Villar Black Propaganda

Noynoy Aquino is said to be “mentally unstable” while Manny Villar is allegedly “protecting his personal interests.” Have the two conflicting political parties gone too far and actually resolved to using black propaganda just to get ahead of their political rivals?

With just days away from the May 2010 automated election, Sen. Allan Peter Cayetano of the Nacionalista Party and Rep. Risa Hontiveros of the Liberal party go face-to-face to address the claims of black propaganda in the special Harapan edition of “Failon Ngayon” this Saturday (May 1), 5:30 PM.

The two parties are neck-and-neck in the surveys and making the opposing party look bad may just be the key to win the elections. “Failon Ngayon” conducted a mock election using the 2.5 feet sample ballots from COMELEC and the people’s shocking reactions were captured.

On the lighter side, impersonators of Presidential candidates Manny Villar and Noynoy Aquino will also clash in the show and argue about the black propaganda they hurled against each other.

Find out if there is any truth in the dirt the two parties are flinging at each other this Saturday (May 1) in “Failon Ngayon” with Ted Failon, 5:30 PM on ABS-CBN.

Eslove Briones is Forced Evicted from Pinoy Big Brother

Eslove Briones, the “Sigang Istokwa ng Tawi-Tawi,” became the second housemate to get forced evicted from Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010.

Big Brother invoked the “violent behavior” rule against Eslove Briones because he played with a knife acting as if he is about to stab a fellow housemate.

The rule says it clearly that “any housemate who becomes violent will be removed from the house immediately.”

Although the act was supposed to be a joke, Big Brother is very strict in the rule that any form of violence is strictly prohibited inside the house. It’s interesting to note that this was also the rule broken by PBB Double UP housemate Tom Rodriguez (formerly Tom Mott) who got pissed off during a competition and started to punch the wall.

GLOBAL TELEVISION NETWORK ABS-CBN PURCHASES 75 IKEGAMI

GFCAM™ HDS-V10 TAPELESS HD FLASH RAM CAMCORDERS

MAYWOOD, NEW JERSEY, April 20, 2010 - ABS-CBN, the Philippine-based global multi-media conglomerate (with bureau locations in Asia Pacific, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, the Philippines, the Middle East, and the USA), has purchased 75 Ikegami GFCAM™ HDS-V10 tapeless Flash RAM HD camcorders to deploy in its Philippine news network. This large-scale commitment to GFCAM™ makes ABS-CBN the latest production entity to adopt Ikegami's tapeless HD production solution, following such organizations as the Univision Television Group, Canada's Weather Network, Tulsa's KGEB-TV, and Boston College. ABS-CBN has specified use of Ikegami's GFCAM™ HDS-V10 tapeless Flash RAM HD camcorders for ENG, current affairs, and documentary-program production.

"The GFCAM™ was chosen for the superiority of its SD and HD images, the durability of the camera, and Ikegami's excellent technical support," explains Danton Wieneke, Head of Engineering, News and Current Affairs for ABS-CBN. "When it comes to imagery we love its wide latitude, and its super knee feature," remarks Boying Palileo, Head of News Camera Operations.

The GFCAM™ is a rugged, broadcast-grade ENG camcorder that employs three advanced 2/3-inch AIT CCD's and is available in native 1080i or 720p versions. The GFCAM™ records HD images in MXF-compliant MPEG-2 50Mbps Long GOP or 100Mbps I-Frame Only, now in a variety of frame rates, including 60i, 24p, 25p, and 30p. The Ikegami GFCAM™ employs GFPAK™ media, a removable Flash-RAM pack with up to 128GB capacity, a high-speed S-ATA interface, and a convenient USB port for instant access to file-based video from laptop or desktop edit systems. Users can also choose Ikegami's new CF ADAPTOR, a GFPAK™-style cartridge that can be loaded with affordable, off-the-shelf CompactFlash (CF) Type I media for "plug-and-play" use.

"The ease of accessing CF media provides workflow flexibility in the field," Rupert Ambil, Head of News Field Operation for ABS-CBN, notes. "CF cards are great because they're readily available anywhere in the world we may be deployed."

Ikegami introduced the industry's first tapeless camcorder in 1995. Drawing from its many years of experience, Ikegami's GFCAM™ features such Intelligent Recording innovations as Retro Loop (so videographers never miss a shot) and a time-lapse function. Other tapeless recording advantages of the GFCAM™ include "Pakless" recording while exchanging media packs, proxy generation, and instant export of thumbnail clips via Bluetooth to laptops for fast logging, metadata insertion, and other workflow benefits.

GFCAM™ users can also opt to integrate Ikegami's other GF Series products into their production environments. These include Ikegami's GFSTATION™ GFS-V10 Flash RAM studio deck, a multi-task platform built around high-capacity internal Flash memory. The GFSTATION™ is equally at home in traditional HD video production environments or those with extensive IT integration. The GFSTATION™ can serve as a home for video sources transferred via a network to a non-linear editor, an import terminal for uploads from external sources, and an In/Out editor supporting instant direct editing during file transfer from a GFPAK™. In/Out editing is also possible during recording, via the GFSTATION™'s front-panel or its universal controller. Other Ikegami GF Series products include the GFSTATION™ PORTABLE half-rack-wide portable player/recorder, GFPLAYER desktop playback unit, and an adaptor providing direct plug-in of GFPAK™ media into tower PC's with a fast serial-ATA interface. GF Series MediaManager software provides efficient GF Series integration with large server-based production environments.
Ikegami's ongoing commitment to customer service was a crucial factor in making GFCAM™ HDS-V10 tapeless Flash RAM HD camcorders the right choice for ABS-CBN. "The engineers have been great these past years supporting our other Ikegami cameras," Danton Wieneke concludes. "We expect this to continue."

Why did ABS-CBN not sign up Andi?

YIKES! Will Andi Eigenmann suffer the fate as Carla Abellana who, after being signed by Lily Monteverde to a non-exclusive, three-picture movie deal, was never given a single solo movie project until now?

“Agua Bendita’s” high rating has nothing to do with Andi. It was already rating high even before Andi, or for that matter, Matteo Guidicelli, acted in the drama series. Its impressive rating is generally the result of timeslot, the after-the-early-evening-news period, when television enjoys its highest viewership. This also explains “May Bukas Pa” was also a high rater. But Zaijan Jaranilla’s appeal as Santino worked very well for the series.

According to Regal Films publicity release, Andi is set to do an original comedy movie and the remake of “Temptation Island,” with Andi taking Dina Bonnevie’s role, and “Problem Child,” aunt Cherry Gil’s movie.

If Andi is that hot as a celebrity, ABS-CBN would have not agreed to let her go to Regal Films. It should have cornered her for itself such as what it did to Zaijan.

Oh well, spindoctors can’t make everybody take every round!

The Lopez story in a musical

The group behind Undaunted (first row, from left): Producer Alvin Trono, Audie Gemora of Stages, playwright-director George de Jesus; (second row) Jig Blanco of First Philec, Jo de los Santos of First Phil. Realty Corp., this writer, Ryan de Leon of Philec Solar; Ross Gamo of First Holdings; and (third row) Domi Espejo of ABS-CBN, JR Paeste of Philec, Marian Dimacali and Alvin Libay of First Gen. and Rene Espinosa of Philec Solar

MANILA, Philippines - Tomorrow, April 23 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on April 24, 7 p.m. at the Meralco Theatre, the Lopez Group of Companies and Stages Production will present the musical titled Undaunted produced in celebration of the 80th birthday of Lopez Group chairman Oscar Lopez. It tells the story of the Lopez clan, their roots, challenges and where they are headed.

Originally conceptualized to celebrate the Lopez Group’s 80th founding anniversary in 2008, Undaunted was re-written to take on the point of view of Lopez who himself wrote and published the family genealogy contained in a book launched in 1982.

It affirms the Lopez family values passed on from the 1800s, and articulated so well by the late Eugenio Lopez Sr. (Don Eñing), founder of the modern-day Lopez enterprise.

Throughout the phoenix-like falling and rising of the Lopez fortunes, family members were guided by the following distinct values: A pioneering entrepreneurial spirit; business excellence; nationalism; unity and team work; a strong work ethic, integrity; social justice; and an over-riding concern for employee welfare and wellness.

A full theatrical in two acts, the cast is headed by theater director-actor Audie Gemora, who will portray the role of Lopez. The other cast members are professional theater actors, the Lopez grandchildren and 12 employees from the different businesses of the Lopezes who will be part of the ensemble. Cedie Lopez-Vargas, head of ABS-CBN Logistics will also dance with the cast.

Just like any professional play, auditions for all Lopez employees were held and many heeded the call by heading to the Meralco Theatre for a two-day audition. Rehearsals were held every night after work and the Lopez grandchildren joined the cast every weekend to polish their lines.

According to Audie who is the second cousin of Lopez, “In many parts when we’re rehearsing, I get very emotional. It’s a very personal approach. The play centers around Oscar Lopez fondly called Manong Oskie, the historian of the family. He narrates everything in a flashback and it is so relevant to what the family is going through right now. It’s really true what they say that if you don’t know where you came from, you will not reach that place where you’re supposed to go.”

Audie added that what the family is going through right now is not new. It has had many ups and downs over the decades and every single time that there was a challenge they manage to rise up again.

“Before, I didn’t understand ABS-CBN’s tagline In the service of the Filipino but I came to realize it’s true. When these companies where started by Manong Eñing and Manong Nanding, that was really in their hearts. It wasn’t just about making money. And even to our forefathers, that’s really their objective. And these are just the fruits of all of that. I hope that people will come to appreciate the spirit behind this family. There’s just too much politics and economic warfare going on that sometimes we forget the human side to any family. I hope people will see this,” shared Audie.

For producer Alvin Trono, “It’s something I will be proud of, something I will really remember just because it’s something I believe in. It’s not just a project, it’s seeing and feeling and experiencing their lives (Lopez family) despite adversities and how they rise from that. That’s very admirable.”

Director and playwright George de Jesus bragged about its highlights, “Yung finale because the Lopez grandchildren will be performing. The children of Cedie, Jay, Pia will be there. Other to-watch-out-for scenes are that of Erning when he was dying and Geny Lopez while he was imprisoned. Very dramatic!”

Composer Roy del Valle had this to share “On a personal note, I realized that the Lopezes are very reachable with lives just like ours. They went through a lot but managed to overcome. They have no extraordinary powers — except their strong family values and concern for the next generations of their clan. If only all Filipino families think this way, we will have a better country.”

The 20 numbers in the play were choreographed by Erwin Flores.

Sarah Geronimo & Sam Milby To Star In 'Adarna (Musical)'

Few months ago, ABS-CBN employees announced to the world that actors Sam Milby and Anne Curtis would star the Philippines version of the Korean Telenovela 'Green Rose', one of my favorite Korean telenovelas. And of course I was so disappointed because Sam is a big no-no to play the lead role. Luckily, the management changed the whole game.

Few weeks ago or a month ago when the said TV station had auditions for amateur singers, yeah they need newbie singers. Based on what I heard, they need newbie singers for their upcoming musical-fantasy telenovela. OMG, this Telenovela is one of my favorite stories, this Telenovela is the TV version of the hit 'Ibong Adarna'.

As of now, the title of the show is 'Adarna'. The show will star Sarah Geronimo and Sam Milby, yah this is going to be the first team-up of the 2 Kapamilya stars. Yes I am excited... love love love... I need to learn to forget the team-up of Sarah Geronimo, Loren "Koleleng" Legarda and Manny "Trapo" Villar.

Boy Abunda says SNN will be reformatted when Kris Aquino returns

"We were supposed to do the reformat, sa The Buzz, matagal na talaga. Nagkataon lamang [ang pag-alis ni Ruffa Gutierrez]. Even with SNN, matagal nang nakakasa yung reformat. When Kris [Aquino] comes back, after the elections, we will launch new portions on SNN," sabi ni Boy.

"Pero within the year, if the creative team sees that there's a need to introduce new portions, they do that." Right now, nagpapalit-palit ang co-host ni Boy Abunda sa SNN on weeknights. In the absence of Kris Aquino, nagsisilbing alternate co-hosts sina Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzalez, at Mariel Rodriguez.Dahil nasanay munang si Kris lamang ang co-host, nanibago si Boy nang mag-leave si Kris sa SNN.

"It's very difficult because iba-iba sila," aniya. "I've been working with Kris... I mean, these girls are very new, but they bring in a different thing. Iba ang baon, ibang atake. Mariel is so different from Toni; Toni is so different from Bianca."Ay, Kris Aquino is Kris Aquino! She's different from the rest of them. Iba ang 'baon' ni Kris," pagtukoy rin ni Boy.

6 Housemates Nominated for Eviction in ‘PBB Teen Clash of 2010′

Six of the 16 housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010” are in danger of being evicted this Saturday (April 24) in the first live eviction night of the season.

The nominees from the Villa are Eslove, who was deemed too naughty, Angelo who has remained distant to his housemates, and Maichel, who was automatically nominated for his disobedience to his personal task and also the house rules.

The nominees from the Apartment are Patrick, whose jokes offended some people, Romeo, who was too loud for others, and Tricia, who was voted by all her housemates due to her rollercoaster mood swings.

The Athletic Muse of Davao has been getting a lot of attention from viewers because of her closeness with Ivan and her confusion about what she feels for him. This brought her fans and haters alike even in the Internet where various fan pages emerged to support or go against TRIVAN or Tricia-Ivan pair.

What will happen if Tricia and Joe will be asked to swap houses? Will Tricia win the Villa housemates’ friendship or will she gain more haters? And how will Joe adapt to the Apartment teens?

Meanwhile, Big Brother gave the houses a special task of giving P10,000 each to a chosen charity. The twist is that the recipient should be personally known by a member of the house. There were housemates who were too eager to help their immediate family while other housemates opted to give the money to a neighbor or friend.

Will the housemates clash as they choose which person to help? Stay updated, follow the CLASHADVISER on Twitter and join other fans in the “PBB Teen Clash of 2010” official Facebook fanpage at www.facebook.com/pbbteenclash2010. ABS-CBN posts 45% share of national audience in March

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation reported that its national audience share hit 45 percent in March this year, 11.9 points higher than rival GMA Network’s 33.1 percent in the same month.

“When it comes to entertainment, most Filipinos watch “Agua Bendita.” When it comes to TV election news coverage, most Filipinos find ABS-CBN as the most credible,” ABS-CBN said in a statement.

"Agua Bendita" topped the national TV ratings and beat competition in March 2010 with an average rating of 39.4 percent, according to global media specialist TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres).

Year-on-year, ABS-CBN's audience share grew by 2.1 points from 42.9 percent in March 2009, while GMA's audience share shrank by 2.7 points from 35.8 percent in March 2009.

ABS-CBN said industry analysts also noted that ABS-CBN has gained ground in Mega Manila with its audience increasing to 36.9 percent in March 2010, up by 3.9 points from 33 percent in March 2009.

Meanwhile, GMA's hold in Mega Manila has weakened with audience share tumbling to 37.8 percent in March 2010, down by 4.9 points from 42.7 percent in March 2009.

TNS data show that seven out of the top ten most watched weekday programs were ABS-CBN programs.

“TV Patrol World” ranked third and topped all news programs nationwide with an average rating of 32.5 percent. Its leadership is affirmed by a Pulse Asia survey conducted between 21-25 February 2010 showing 63 percent of Filipinos believing that ABS-CBN is the most credible TV network in covering the election campaign. GMA was second with 55 percent.

ABS-CBN's AM radio station DZMM is not only leading in radio in terms of audience share according to 2010 Nielsen Mega Manila RAM, but its cable TV channel DZMM TeleRadyo is the number one cable news and information channel in February 2010.

DZMM scored a 22 percent audience share. DZMM TeleRadyo climbed to 24th spot among all cable TV channels, beating other news channels such as CNN, BBC, Channel News Asia, Bloomberg, and CNBC.

Harapan: Mga Isyu ng Bayan is part of a series of election specials produced by ABS-CBN that enable viewers to get to know the candidates to different government posts. ABS-CBN has been organizing and broadcasting political fora since May 2009 through its different media platforms from free TV (ABS-CBN channel 2), to cable (ANC), radio, (DZMM), and the Internet (www.abs-cbnnews.com) to help Filipinos decide on the May 10 national elections.

Kris Aquino is proud to have KC Concepcion on The Buzz

She’s really smart and I think she reads a lot so hindi kailangang makialam. Uhm, although, she asked for my advise before accepting it.”

Concerned daw ang dalaga sa portion ng The Buzz na POV (Points, Opinions and Violent Reactions) so parang sinabihan lamang siya ni Kris ng kung anong naiisip nito. “And then I told her na if you’re not comfortable doing the POV, don’t. Kasi parang kailangan maging comfortable ‘yung peers mo muna with you, ‘yung ka-age bracket niya and younger than her bago ka mag-opinionate about their lives. Kasi kailangan magkakilanlan muna kayo. That’s why it’s now ‘POV with Boy and Kris.’ And then, uh, apart from that, ako ‘yung ang-suggest d’yan na it’s really more interesting to see interviews from your point of view especially kapag ‘yung mga tao same experience as you ang pinagdadaanan. So, sinaggest ko ‘yun."

Tapos naisip rin ni Kris na bagay si KC sa ilang requests sa kanila to go abroad and interview international stars. “Tapos sinabi ko rin na we get so many requests talaga to go abroad to interview, so, mga sosyal talaga like, super sad talaga kami ni Boy, ‘yung Twilight? ‘Yung New Moon? Invited kami, hindi kami makapunta. My God! Eh, ako gusto ko talaga. Team Jacob ako. No, pinanood ko talaga lahat ‘yun. Pati ‘yung books one sitting ko ano, so, ayun, That’s why, ‘yung mga ‘yun now mae-entertain because si KC can go already and perfect ‘di ba, na siya ang ihaharap mo sa lahat ng Hollywood stars. So, it’s really interesting and exciting.”

Agad namang inassure din ni Kris ang mommy ni KC na si Sharon Cuneta na aalagaan nila si KC. “And, ‘yun, ka-BBM ko si Mega (Sharon Cuneta) about it. Totoo ‘yung sinabi ko and then I said she’ll really be in good hands. Tapos uh, nakakatuwa kasi sinabi naman talaga ni Shawie na ‘Actually, when we are all talking about the decision ah, Kiko (Sen. Francis Pangilinan) and I felt na it will be really great for her to be working with you and Boy,’” pahayag ni Kris.

Isa ba siya sa nag-suggest na kunin si KC para sa The Buzz? “Uh, they gave us a list of names. But ultimately naman, uh, this was really ano, Louie (Andrada, Business Unit Head ng The Buzz) and the rest of the staff and they asked me if we were in favor and both of us really get excited about it talaga. Pero siguro kasi we were on our eleventh year actually ‘di ba? So, kung tutuusin they know what they’re doing. Hayaan na sila na ‘yun ‘yung ano, ‘yun lang. Tapos sinabi ko nga, natawa na siya doon. Sabi ko, ‘You know, win or lose, sa June right after Pilipinas Got Talent, I’m taking my kids to Tokyo, Disneyland, and Disney Sea. So, wala ako,” tapos ni Kris.

'Trivan' of PBB, love them or hate them?

From Kimerald to Melason, and now Trivan?

PBB Teen Clash 2010 has just premiered last Saturday and in just 2 day, there's already a loveteam in the house: Tricia May Santos and Ivan Dorschner or now coined as 'TRIVAN'.

It all started when PBB 24/7 Live Feed subscribers caught the two so close and sweet and always seen together. Televiewers are yet to see it on primetime, but on PBB Uber, host Mariel Rodriguez already acknowledged the 'Trivan' loveteam.

However, if there are Trivan lovers, there are also 'Anti-Trivan' people at the other corner.

Trivan is only 14 years old, the youngest housemate, while Ivan is already 19, the oldest housemate. And because of that, some think they're 'unlikely'.

While others don't like the loveteam to exist because, they don't like Tricia for Ivan. The reason? Tricia is said to be not acting her age and is the one who's making advances to Ivan. 'Flirt' is the term they are using to describe it.

But some Tricia supporters defend her by saying that Tricia is still childish and only finds Ivan as her 'kuya'.

Ivan and Tricia are caught on live feed getting affectionate with each other this early. And Kuya probably should call the two's attention before it goes deeper.

It's indeed a season of clash as the two warring groups are clashing online. On Facebook, they have their respective fan pages. As I write this, Trivan Fan Page has 255 fans while the Anti-Trivan page now has 1,812 fans.
