7 TFC signals for 7 time zones launched in June

Driven by recent advancements in intercontinental broadcasting technology, Filipinos across the globe will now enjoy a more specialized TV viewing experience as ABS-CBN Global brings a dedicated feed of The Filipino Channel (TFC) for each of the high-concentration Filipino markets starting June 2010.

“With more than 15 years of bringing Philippine news and entertainment, we are ushering in another milestone to align with our TFC subscribers’ preference with regard to the way they want to enjoy our programs,” says ABS-CBN Global Content Head Ned Legaspi.

This month, the seven TFC signals will cater to the following regions: USA, Canada West, Canada East, Middle East, Europe, Australia and Asia Pacific, which includes Japan.

This move is expected to delight not just TFC subscribers but also TFC advertisers. As new technology allows for specialized program or commercial insertion, advertisements targeted to a specific geographic market will be seen only in that particular region.

For instance, TV commercials or program plugs for Australia will no longer be seen in Japan and vice versa.

Charice: 'I'm on Glee, let's party!!!'

International singing sensation Charice said on Twitter Tuesday that she is set to join the second season of the hit US musical TV show "Glee".

"It's official. I'm on Glee (next season)...," Charice announced on her Twitter account.

The young singer maintained that the first rumor of her joining the "Glee" cast was not true.

"But then after that I tried to audition. And I made it!!! Let's party!!!" the obviously rejoicing Charice tweeted.

Charice will play the role of a foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get lead star Rachel contemplating murder.

Last month, Charice vehemently denied a newspaper report saying she is set to join the next season of "Glee."

The report quoted Charice's Philippine manager Grace Mendoza.

Charice's mother, Raquel Pempengco, said in a previous interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com that she has no idea about Mrs. Mendoza's statement.

Charice even posted her denial on her Twitter page.

"I just want to let you all know that it's not true that I'm going to be on Glee... How I wish! Haha."

She added: "LOL. Rumors!!! I am not going to be on Glee..Haha...That's really funny. I didn't know about the Glee (role). Hahaha, until I saw Perez's blog. This is really confusing."

Currently, Charice is in the US promoting her debut global album, which was launched in "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last May 10.

So, it’s Sam and Sam for Sarah Geronimo sa mala-Glee na primetime teleserye. Why not? Aabangan ‘yan ng kanilang fans worldwide!

Luis, Billy to host ABS-CBN's first all-Pinoy game show

After the success of "Pilipinas Got Talent," Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford will work together again for ABS-CBN's upcoming game show "Panahon Ko 'To," an all-original Filipino trivia show.

The unique chemistry of the young men when it comes to hosting opened the door for the new hosting job.

"Bihira naman kasi usually sa TV sa mga hosting. It's either nakikita mo na solo or babae at lalaki. Bihira ka makahanap ng partner na ultimong kulitan niyo at saluhan niyo ay nandoon," Manzano said.

According to the hosts, the new game show is really different from other game shows ever produced by the Kapamilya network.

"It's an original game show. It covers eras from 1960s to 2000," Crawford said.

Manzano said that the game show will have group contestants whose members have different ages.

"Very versatile. [Para] sa buong pamilya at mga barkada din. [It's] reminiscing the old times at saka historical din," Crawford added.

"Para sa amin nakakatuwa kasi it brings back the memories," Manzano said.

'Avatar' inspires Piolo's new teleserye

Hunk actor Piolo Pascual admitted that his upcoming project "Noah" with Zaijan Jaranilla is somewhat inspired by James Cameron's billion-dollar blockbuster "Avatar."

Speaking to reporters at a press conference for his new series, Pascual said "Noah" has some thematic similarities to the Hollywood film but was actually conceived about 5 years ago.

"We would not want to say that it wasn't inspired by Avatar. It's a long shot but one thing that we can brag about is that this concept has been with ABS-CBN even before Gulong ng Palad," he said, referring to a TV series starring Kristine Hermosa and TJ Trinidad.

Pascual said the concept was "locked away" as a potential project by ABS-CBN's creative department because it was deemed too ambitious.

He added, however, that the success of the "Avatar" movie proved that a project with an environmental theme could be a success.

"It's in a way inspired by (Avatar), but I think it's just about time to come up with something na mas inspiring pa, not globally but just locally sa atin sa mga Pinoy," he said.

Pascual said "Noah" encourages viewers to take better care of the environment. He said that aside from the environmental aspect of the show, the series will also show the love of a father to his son and to his family.

Pascual said ABS-CBN pulled out the stops for "Noah", making it one of the most expensive productions ever created by ABS-CBN. He added that the show is even more expensive than his hit teleserye "Lobo."

Pascual, a single parent to his son Iñigo, said that he is really happy working with the country's child wonder Jaranilla.

The actor said "Noah" was offered to him before the child star's hit series "May Bukas Pa" ended last January.

"I'm so excited not only because of the project but working with Zaijan because napakagaling ng bata, napaka-broad niya and this is another inspiring story na pwedeng kapitan ng tao at napapanahon siya about where we live. We have to be aware of what we have and what's left," Pascual said.

The hunk actor said that he also sees his son whenever he looks at Jaranilla's eyes.

"Yes, nakikita ko ang mata ng anak ko sa kanya and I'm proud of the kid. Masyado lang energetic. Kapag magkasama kami kulitan, bro 'dude' nga tawag sa kanya," he said.

Pascual said that he will be spending more time with his son as soon as the latter arrived from the United States.

This coming Father's Day, Pascual said that he will be doing his regular activities like hosting musical variety show "ASAP XV" and taping.

ABS-CBN launches ‘Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo’ Patrol for the future of this country

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs is calling all Filipinos as the nation moves forward to a new government with the election of a new set of leaders.

As another chapter in Philippine history is set to unfold, ABS-CBN is empowering citizens to patrol for the country’s future via “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo.” Each and every Filipino can actively participate in solving the nation’s problems by becoming agents of change in their communities.

“Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo is about taking responsibility (sic) of the future. The only way we can do that is by fixing the problems we have today. We want Filipinos to not just recognize that there is something wrong but to also do something about it,” said ABS-CBN Head of Newsgathering Chi Almario-Gonzalez.

Last Tuesday (June 15), the network, with day-long activities various points in Manila, at the Colegio de San Agustin in Bacolod and the Divisoria Amphitheatre in Cagayan De Oro, where people came to register as volunteers or Bayan Patrollers, launched ‘Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo.’

In line with the opening of classes, Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol World, and Bandila also featured young Bayan Patrollers who have begun change in their communities by reporting and acting on the problems in their schools.

ABS-CBN stars such as Toni Gonzaga, Jericho Resales, and Piolo Pascual also shared how they will contribute to change in plugs aired all over ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN Head of News and Current Affairs Maria Ressa said the launch of “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” marks an important milestone in ABS-CBN’s commitment to citizen empowerment.

“There is no better time to do something for the country but today. “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” gives people a fresh start in taking responsibility of the nation and our future. If there will be Bayan Patrollers in schools, in the government,’ in corporations, and in the streets, who all want and are working for change, then there is nothing impossible for the Philippines as a country,” said.

In the recent May 2010 polls, ABS-CBN empowered citizens to ensure a clean and honest election. On election day, citizen journalists all over the country sent around 5,000 reports on election irregularities, some of which were used for news reports in ABS-CBN’s “Halalan 2010” coverage, the most extensive, most hi-tech, and also the most watched election coverage based on.the survey conducted by TNS.

With on-the-edge news reports presented via augmented reality technology, ABS-CBN’s flagship news program TV Patrol World topped the national ratings last May 10 with a rating of 31.5 percent versus GMA’s 24 Oras (25 percent), a feat that would start a trend that lasts up to this day.

Kim Chiu goes back to school

In spite of her crazy showbiz schedule, teen star Kim Chiu has put studies on top of her priority list this year.

The Kapamilya actress told ABS-CBN.com in a recent interview that she has enrolled in a home study program in a school in Parañaque.

"Once a week lang ako papasok and binibigyan nila ako ng modules. Ngayon lang kasi ako bumalik after four years so fourth year high school muna ako ngayon," she related.

Prior to becoming a star, Kim was a student at the Cebu Cherish School. She is said to be an active student, having joined declamation and dance contests. Kim also excelled in Chinese.

Going back to school was something Kim had been aching to do. It was her "barkada," the Chiurigogobaschu girls, who encouraged her to hit the books once again.

"Nag-usap-usap kami na sabay-sabay kaming mag-first year college para magka-classmates kami nila Melissa at Empress," Kim said.

Chiurigogobaschu is composed of Kim, "Pinoy Big Brother" fellow Teen Edition housemate Beauty Gonzales, "Star Circle Quest" alumni Melissa Ricks and Erich Gonzales, comedienne Kitkat and "Rosalka" lead star Empress Schuck.

Kim is determined to squeeze in school work with her actual work, and with the help of her tutor, believes that, "Wala naman ako masyadong dapat ika-worry kasi habang nagte-taping siguro masisingit ko naman 'yung pag-aaral lalo na kung may quizzes ako."

At the very least, the 20-year old actress wants to earn a diploma---"kahit high school lang."

Regarded as one of the youth's role models, Kim confessed that she is also pressured to do well not just in her craft but also in school.

"Dapat [maganda lagi ang grades ko] kasi 'pag nalaman ng mga classmates ko na, 'Ay boba pala si Kim Chiu!', parang ang pangit pakinggan, 'di ba? Tapos parang ate pa ako ng mga classmates ko since mas matanda ako sa kanila. So dapat mag-aral ng mabuti," she said.

As a student, Kim admitted: "Favorite subject ko ang History pero aminado ako na mahina ako sa Math. Hahaha!"

She and her friends are also into clean fun. They usually spend time together shopping, watching movies, singing at videoke bars, and playing bowling. And unlike some cliques, Kim stressed that Chiurogogobaschu is not into picking fights with anyone.

"Ewan ko ba... Lagi nga kami iniintriga e. May kaaway daw kami e hindi naman kami masama," she maintained.

Her advice for her peers?

"Mag-aral mabuti lalo na mahirap ang buhay ngayon. 'Yung parents natin talagang kumakayod para lang makapagtapos tayo so huwag natin sasayangin 'yung opportunity kasi hindi lahat ng bata nakakapag-aral."

Jovit indeed got talent!

It was electrifying. The crowd at the Araneta Coliseum went wild each time the hosts mentioned Jovit Baldivino’s name and went wilder when they saw him on stage and watched him perform Saturday night.

And when they heard his name proclaimed as the first grand winner of Pilipinas Got Talent Sunday night, the crowd thumped and cheered for the teenager who used to sell siomai in Batangas before joining the country’s biggest talent-reality search.

Jovit, who sang Queen’s Too Much Love Will Kill You, cried when judge Freddie “FMG” Garcia called out his name as the grand winner and thanked his family and fans for supporting him. He won P2-M by beating 11 other finalists with a total of 48.81 percent or almost half of the total votes.

No less than judge Kris Aquino said Jovit could be the next superstar. When Kris asked if he wanted to appear in a teleserye, be part of A.S.A.P. XV or host Wowowee, Jovit just replied, “Lahat po.”

Before winning, Jovit became an object of attacks by some detractors. But his overwhelming victory indicated that the controversies didn’t affect his popularity in the contest that became a top topic in a microblogging site for two consecutive nights.

Pilipinas Got Talent became the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter, even beating the popular 2010 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night during the results night. And it was the second most popular topic the night before the performance finals.

Jovit became an Internet sensation with his audition video getting more than 1.5 million hits worldwide at the start of the season. He rose to prominence when he impressed viewers with his interpretation of Journey’s Faithfully during the auditions.

Joining Jovit in the top three spots were dance group Baguio Metamorphosis and the breakdancers Velasco Brothers, who each received P100,000.

Other finalists who each won P50,000 included ventriloquist Ruther Urquia, magician Allan “Alakim” De Paz, Fil-Norwegian crooner Markki Stroem, guitarist Keith Delleva, the Ezra Band, balladeer Sherwin Baguion, chorale group Luntayao Family, violinist Jeline Oliva and Broadway singer Ingrid Payaket.

Among the celebrities who performed during the two-night finals were Robin Padilla, Gary Valenciano, Robert Seña, Jed Madela, Rhap Salazar, Juris Fernandez, Kjwan, Rocksteddy and Sugarfree.

Also present were ABS-CBN executives led by its president-COO Charo Santos Concio, Channel 2 head Cory Vidanes and head of TV Entertainment Production Linggit Tan. Freemantle Media officials visited Manila to watch the season ender and congratulate winners.

Launched in February 2010, Pilipinas Got Talent has been dominating weekend primetime TV by topping national TV ratings as shown in the data of TNS Media Research. It is hosted by Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford. Iya Villania co-hosted the finals’ result night.

Judges Kris, Ai-Ai delas Alas and FMG toured different parts of the country during the auditions stage. From 220 contestants who passed, the number was trimmed to 36 before the 12 finalists were chosen.

Watch the Pilipinas Got Talent concert on ABS-CBN this Saturday and Sunday on ABS-CBN. Those who missed the grand finals can catch it on Studio 23 this Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.

DZMM Teleradyo Invades the Middle East, Australia and Europe

The country’s leading news and information cable TV channel DZMM TeleRadyo makes a big leap to the global arena in its quest to deliver the first in news and public service to Filipinos worldwide.

DZMM TeleRadyo is now being broadcast in the Middle East and Australia as part of the package offered by TFC, The Filipino Channel, to Filipinos over there. It will also be available in Europe starting June 15.

TFC has long been offering DZMM in its audio format abroad, but with the advent of DZMM TeleRadyo, global Filipinos will now be able to see their favorite anchors and view headlines, news updates, weather reports, and public service announcements.

More importantly, they will also be able to see the first video footage of the biggest and most breaking news in the Philippines from the station’s trusted Radyo Patrol Reporters.
ABS-CBN Manila Radio Division Head Peter Musngi, who recently judged in the prestigious New York Festivals Radio Programming & Promotion Awards, said this new development marks another feat for the multi-awarded radio station.

So far this year, DZMM has led in both radio and cable TV ratings to be the concurrent number one radio station and cable news channel in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, in line with its international expansion, DZMM beefed up its programs to also address the needs of global Pinoys. DZMM’s 18-year old flagship public service program “Aksyon Ngayon Global Patrol” with Kaye Dacer, Fr. Tito Caluag, and Zaldy Naguit now airs reports and concerns from ABS-CBN Global News Bureaus in North America, Middle East, Europe, and Australia.

“Usapang de Campanilla” with Lynda Jumilla, Alvin Echico, Atty. Danny Concepcion and Atty. Claire Castro, and “Magandang Gabi Dok,” with Niña Corpuz will also include legal or health queries from listeners abroad.

The whole team of DZMM is also preparing for its 24th anniversary celebration this July, which will be marked by various public service efforts such as the launch of a mobile library and clinic for children that will tour barangays nationwide.

Stay tuned to DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 on AM radio and DZMM TeleRadyo on SKYCABLE channel 26. Also catch DZMM at www.dzmm.com.ph or http://tfcnow.abs-cbn.com.

Jovit Baldivino wins in Pilipinas Got Talent

Jovit Baldivino is the first grand winner of ABS-CBN's nationwide talent show "Pilipinas Got Talent" (PGT).

Baldivino got 48.81% or almost half of the total votes, besting 11 other finalists. He now gets to take home a whopping P2 million.

"Una nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng Batangueno po na sumuporta sa akin. Sa mga kamag-anak ko po at pamilya, lalong lalo na sa Jovitnatics fans club. Sa TFC subscribers, maraming maraming salamat po," the 16-year-old singer said.

Kris Aquino, one of PGT's judges, said Baldivino can now be part of any ABS-CBN show he wants -- a teleserye (soap opera) alongside Sarah Geronimo, musical variety show "ASAP XV," or noontime variety show "Wowowee."

"Saan mo gusto maging parte?" Aquino said. Baldivino replied: "Lahat po."

The results of the voting were announced on Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum, and was aired live on ABS-CBN Channel 2.

The star-studded results night was hosted by Luis Manzano and Iya Villania.

Not empty-handed

The Velasco brothers and Baguio Metamorphosis, meanwhile, were the 2 others who made it in the PGT top 3. They each got P100,000.

Other finalists in PGT's first season include ventriloquist Ruther Urquia, magician Allan "Alakim" De Paz, Fil-Norwegian crooner Markki Stroem, guitarist Keith Delleva, Ezra Band, balladeer Sherwin Baguion, family singers Luntayao, musician Jeline Oliva, and Broadway siren Ingrid Payaket.

They went home with P50,000 each.

PGT a hit

PGT was the most talked-about topic on Twitter during the start of the show's final results night on Sunday.

The hashtag "Pilipinas Got Talent" was first on Twitter trending topics as of 8:41 p.m., even way ahead of the much-anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Since its launch, PGT has been topping the weekend primetime national TV ratings, according to the data by TNS Media Research. This season, the show hit a high of 43.1% just on its second week of airing.

LYRICS : SUKOB NA

Tuwing umuulan ay naaalala tayong dalawa
Kay sarap isipin
Na may kasama sa buhay pag bumaha

Chorus:
Sukob na, halika na
Sabay tayo sa payong ko
Hawak na, kapit pa
Sa payong ko magkasama tayo ...

Hinding-hindi ka pababayaan
Na mag-isa sa ulan
Aalagaan, magtatawanan
Wala na 'tong iwanan ...

Chorus 2:
Sukob na, halika na
Sabay tayo sa payong ko
Hawak ka, kapit pa
Umula't, bumagyo magkasama tayo ...

Bridge:

(Repeat chorus 1 &; 2)

Sa payong ko
Magkasama tayong dalawa ..
