Pilipinas, Win na Win Theme Song

Kasama niyo kami, tayo’y magsasaya
At handang marinig ang kwento ng iba
Sa problema mo, di ka nag-iisa
Karamay niyo kami, matutulungan ka
Sa loob at labas ng ating bansa
Kami’y maghahatid ng milyong milyong tuwa
Sa bawat pamilya, may dalang pag-asa
Ang programa na para sa bawat isa

Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win…

Kapiling niyo kami sa bawat tahanan
Kayo ang boss namin
Kaya relax lang kayo diyan
Sarap makarinig ng bawat tawanan
Dahil sa programang panalo ang bayan

Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]

Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win [win na win!]
Pilipinas, Win na win!

'Wowowee' through the years

After five years on the air, the country’s hit noontime TV show on ABS-CBN, Wowowee, finally bade viewers goodbye.

On Friday, July 29, the most controversial afternoon program mounted its last show without its main host, Willie Revillame.

For a long time, the show gave its best to give joy and happiness to Filipinos here and abroad with its main female co-hosts Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion and Pokwang.

But like any show, Wowowee wasn’t spared from controversies.

Below is the timeline of Wowowee’s history.

February 5, 2005: Wowowee aired its first show. The game show was seen on TV on weekdays and Saturdays since then.

February 4, 2006: ULTRA stampede. Wowowee decided to hold its first anniversary show at Philsports Arena (ULTRA) in Pasig City. The stampede claimed the lives of 71 fans and supporters.

October 19, 2006: The Department of Justice (DOJ), through its five-member panel, recommended that charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries be filed against 17 ABS-CBN executives and employees in connection with the deadly ULTRA stampede.

May 12, 2007: Wowowee got a 3-day suspension after young actress Eda Nolan had a wardrobe malfunction while the show was airing.

January 29, 2008: The Supreme Court (SC) affirmed the authority of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to conduct an investigation into the alleged link of some ABS-CBN executives to the ULTRA stampede.

August 3, 2009: Revillame asked that the airing of former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino’s funeral cortege from La Salle Greenhills to Manila Cathedral be stopped. The footage was being beamed live simultaneously and shown as an inset on the screen on the noontime show. His actions drew flak, and Revillame was even asked by some people, particularly Aquino supporters, to resign from the show.

August 4, 2009: Revillame apologized on TV after he drew criticism for ordering the removal of the live streaming on Wowowee of former President Corazon Aquino’s funeral procession.

August 10, 2009: ABS-CBN Corporate Communication head Bong Osorio bared that Revillame was on leave “indefinitely” as a result of the controversy generated by Revillame's order to stop the airing of President Corazon Aquino's funeral procession on Wowowee.

September 21, 2009: Revillame made a triumphant return to Wowowee, six weeks after going on indefinite leave.

May 4, 2010: Revillame slammed Sucaldito for the latter’s alleged nonstop criticisms. Revillame, in particular, got irked after Sucaldito allegedly insulted the contestants of Wowowee. The contestants were reportedly high school students with general averages of between 75 and 79. Sucaldito repeatedly denied that he insulted the Wowowee contestants. Revillame demanded that the network fire Sucaldito or else he will leave the network.

May 5, 2010: Revillame failed to report for Wowowee.

May 12, 2010: Revillame gave a letter to the bosses of the Kapamilya network asking that he be released from his contract.

May 15, 2010: Robin Padilla joined Wowowee as its first male guest co-host after Revillame went on indefinite break.

May 25, 2010: ABS-CBN management announced that Revillame is taking an "indefinite break."

May 29, 2010: Kanto Boys (John Lloyd Cruz, Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano) took over Padilla’s hosting job.

June 3, 2010: Cesar Montano hosted Wowoweeas guest co-host. He stayed in the show for just one week.

June 12, 2010: DOJ dismissed the charges against Revillame in connection with the 2006 ULTRA stampede.

July 27, 2010: ABS-CBN announced the end of Wowowee. It revealed that its replacement will be "Pilipinas, Win na Win" to be hosted by Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion, Robin Padilla and presidential sister Kris Aquino.

July 30, 2010: Wowowee bids goodbye.

Denise Laurel considers Precious Hearts Romances presents Midnight Phantom worth the wait

Despite having a fever the previous day, Denise Laurel was in happy mood when she granted ABS-CBN.com an interview during the last taping day of Precious Hearts Romances presents Midnight Phantom at the Fernwood Garden in Quezon City. She eagerly asked the viewers continue to watch Midnight Phantom up to its last episode, but she refused to reveal the details of the wedding scene that they were shooting. “They have to stick up to the final episode. Everyday is just gut-wrenching. Direk Cathy (Garcia Molina) knows how to make viewers want more everyday. Watch out kung anong mangyayari sa mga characters namin sa finale. We would love to extend the show but we want to stay true to the book so one month lang ‘yung teleserye. But even if it’s just short I’m proud that we we’re able to make every episode na kaabang-abang talaga. I hope talaga people will watch till the end.”

Midnight Phantom, which stars Denise and Rafael Rosell, was one year in the making. The production team had to wait for director Cathy Garcia Molina to finish her other commitments before she could devote her time to direct the mini-series. In the time when Midnight Phantom was still in the works, Denise heard a few negative comments regarding the fate of the show. “Dati I would frequently hear people say, ‘Ay shelved na ‘yang show niyo! First time mo na nga magbida na-shelf pa! Kawawa ka naman!’”

But the young actress ignored those comments and just kept her faith that a quality material like Midnight Phantom will soon be aired. “I just laughed. Not because I’m overconfident. They can say whatever they want. But I believe that there are things that are worth waiting for. Ang nangyari kasi was we had to wait for Direk Cathy to finish ‘yung iba pang ipinapagawa sa kanya. Nag movie pa kasi siya (Miss You Like Crazy, Cinco). The important thing is siya ang mag-direk ng Midnight Phantom para siguradong maging maganda.”

Denise further talked about her learning experience working on Midnight Phantom with Direk Cathy whom she described as a director who won’t settle for anything less. The actress said she never had any problem with the director when it comes to shooting daring scenes for Midnight Phantom. “Kahit nung pinasuot niya ako ng short shorts at pina-spread out niya ako sa bed hindi ako nag-worry because I know she’s a woman and she knows how a woman should be treated. Hindi naman niya gagawing bastusin ang mga artista niya. You’ll see naman in her work, that’s why she is always entrusted to direct movies and teleseryes.”

Pilipinas Win Na Win! business unit head reveals noontime show's new format

New formats will dominate Pilipinas Win Na Win!, ABS-CBN's new noontime show, said its business unit head Jay Montelibano. Pilipinas Win Na Win! will replace Wowowee starting this Saturday, July 31.

Montelibano spoke today, July 29, on the set of the new noontime show to give the selected press, including PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), a brief primer.

He said Wowowee's popular segments like "Willie of Fortune" and "Hep Hep Hooray" will be scrapped.

"They will go, talagang panibagong segments. So, wala na po yung dating segments na nakikita natin," said Montelibano, who is also the business unit head of Wowowee. "The set will stay. It's the game segments that will see really total change."

But the million peso prizes, unarguably a big factor in Wowowee's popularity, will be retained. The methods of doling them out to contestants, however, will be bigger than before.

"Nandudun pa rin yung million na pinamimigay," Montelibano said. "Mas maraming mananalo kasi yung mga games, naka-skew para sa pamilya. So kung dati one is to one yung contest at mga games, ngayon it's interactive with the barangay, saka mayro'ng games para sa pamilya. So, mas pang-pamilya, mas pang-maramihan.

Erich Gonzales, Andi Eigenmann, and Empress retrace their journey to stardom

Erich Gonzales, Andi Eigenmann, and Empress are no doubt some of the hottest teleserye princesses of ABS-CBN today. All three didn’t expect their sudden rise to stardom, but they readily took on the challenge when they were given a lead role in their respective soaps.

First was Erich who was hailed as 2009’s breakthrough star with Katorse and later on, Tanging Yaman. Looking back, the pretty Davaoeña was very happy that she managed to transform from being known for her teenybopper roles to a certified dramatic actress. “Talagang super saya ko kasi alam naman nating lahat na ang tagal ko naghintay. Tsaka lagi ko naman sinasabi na in everything that I do, gagawin ko talaga yung best ko kasi itong opportunity na ito comes once in a lifetime. So sobrang galing lang talaga na nabigyan ako ng big break ng ABS-CBN. I realized that everything has its own time kahit hindi mo hinihingi. Thank God talaga for everything,” she enthused.

Andi on the other hand was able to prove her worth as the lead star of Agua Bendita since it remains to be a top-rating show long after she replaced her young counterpart. It was certainly a big step for her since she didn’t have enough acting background to back her up. But this showbiz newbie made up for it with her strong will and sheer hard work these past few months. “Nakita po siguro ng management na ready na ako for this kind of challenge. Kaya sisiguraduhin ko po na yung amount of enthusiasm na napapakita ko sa mga tao ngayon at yung excitement ko at gratitude ko, pina-promise ko na kahit gaano katagal ‘di mag-iiba yun.”

Empress could hardly believe that she was finally given a title role via Rosalka after 10 years in the business. Known for her acclaimed performances, the 17 year-old is confident that she has what it takes to be the next primetime princess. “May mga times din po na medyo nahihirapan akong umarte kapag pagod ako, may iniisip or laging bugbugan sa trabaho. Pero sa mga nakita ni’yo naman po, lahat po yun pinaghirapan ko, inaral ko yung bawat eksena, kaya siguro naging maganda yung kinalabasan. And sobrang masaya at blessed ako dahil grabe ang naging suporta ng mga tao sa show namin,” she beamed.

XB Gensan wins 'Showtime' grand finals!

Hard work, determination and a second chance to show off their talents proved to be the winning combination for the dance crew of General Santos City as they beat 10 other contestants in the first Showtime Grand Finals on Saturday.

XB Gensan was named as the Champion in the contest dubbed as the “Ultimate Showdown” held at the Yñares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

The group earned an average score 9.875 and received P1 million as cash prize.

The other groups received the following average scores—Kasibulan, 7.375; Perlas ng Silangan, 8.575; Mortal Combat and the Showgays, 9.3; Beat Guyz, 7.325; Sensei, 8.1; Savannah Kids Ballroom Dancers, 8.775; Philippine Islands Assassin, 9.7; Enlighten Black Theater Group, 9.425; E-Crew, 8.575; and Boyz Unlimited Dancers, 9.625.

“Gamit ang puso sa pagsasayaw. Noong una akala namin di na kami makakabalik,” said one of the XB Gensan members before the group started their routine.

Another member expressed how proud they are that a group was going to represent Mindanao.

“Tunay na talent na galing GenSan saka yung tunay na pagkakaisa ng grupo,” said the group.

With 10 other groups that vied for the title and the prize, XB Gensan vowed to give it their all.

“Hindi namin alam kung makakaya namin. Ang sa amin lang, ibuhos ang lahat. Maraming salamat po sa second chance na ibinigay nyo sa amin,” they said.

After their dance routine, XB Gensan was overwhelmed by the cheers and support they received from the crowd and even from the judges.

“Alam ninyo, mahirap humakot ng fans dahil napakalayo ng pinanggalingan ninyo. Pero nakita ninyo ang response sa inyo ng tao! Alam ninyo guys, masyadong emosyonal yung ginawa ninyo dahil galing iyan sa puso. Pakinggan nyo ang sigaw ng tao!” said one of the judges, Jong Hilario.

“Alam ng buong Mindanao, ng buong Pilipinas at ngayon sa buong mundo na kayo ang dapat manalo ngayong araw na ito,” Hilario added.

Another judge, Vice Ganda, could not help himself but be proud of the XB Gensan dance crew.

“Sobrang ipinagmamalaki ko kayo dahil ito pong grupong ito ay natalo na, pinabalik, pinagpursigihan, nanalo ulit at heto na sila ngayon,” Vice Ganda said.

It can be recalled that the group was eliminated but was given another chance to prove their talent during the Wild Card Round. The said round gave a second chance to groups which brought amusement to the Madlang Pipol but failed to advance beyond the monthly finals.

“Isang malaking pagpapaalala sa ating lahat na never use your failures yesterday as an excuse for you not to do better and strive more today,” Vice Ganda said.

Joining the popular talent show was never easy for the group. They saved what little money they had just to try and give it a shot in Manila.

For them, the experience proved to be not only worthwhile, but actually a dream come true.

“Salamat sa lahat! Proud to be an XB Gensan,” the group said.

Showtime grand finals tomorrow

It's all systems go for the grand finals of the talent show "Showtime" tomorrow, Saturday, July 24. Dubbed "Ultimate Showdown," the grand finals will showcase the best of Pinoy talent in dancing.

At a recent rehearsal, finalists were seen perfecting their stunts and dance moves. The grand finalists were giving their all in their performances.

But away from the blinding stage lights, group members showed signs of fatigue, lack of sleep, and irritability.

"Hindi na po namin iniisip ang pagod at hirap. Malayo na po 'yung narating namin," said a member of Beat Guys of Marikina.

"Kami rin nag-aaway-away na. Siyempre, iba-iba ang ideas," shared a member of Mortal Combat and the Show Gays of Quezon City.

But reaching the grand finals itself is already a victory for many of the groups that qualified.

The groups from General Santos (XBGenSan) and Capiz (Sensei), for instance, embarked on an adventure of a lifetime to join "Showtime," saving whatever money they could just to get on a ship that would bring them to Manila even if they did not have any more money left in their pockets.

The finalists all agreed that winning the grand finals is the most important thing, most especially since the cash prize is P1 million.

According to Vice Ganda, one of the judges, the grand finals is his most challenging task as a judge.

"Alam ko kasi 'yung pinagdaanan nila. Nasubaybayan ko sila ng 9 months. Mahirap talaga," he said.

Win or lose, the 11 grand finalists vow to celebrate the true spirit of "Showtime"--to show off and make people happy. -- Report from Marie Lozano, ABS-CBN News

Willie wants to overhaul 'Wowowee'?

Rumors have it that Willie Revillame's return to “Wowowee” is getting delayed because the beleaguered TV host has too many requests from the production.

A source told Bulletin Entertainment that Willie is requesting for a change in the show’s format. He is also said to be asking the network to introduce new segments.

More, Willie is allegedly asking the management to remove some of his female co-hosts, particularly Pokwang with whom Willie is not seeing eye to eye.

Willie reportedly got incensed when Pokwang openly campaigned for President Noynoy Aquino. He took offense because the comedienne, whom he fought for to be in his show, went against his political choice, Sen. Manny Villar.

The animosity between Willie and Pokwang is said to have grown after the latter said she felt guest co-host Robin Padilla showed respect for her. Pokwang, in unconfirmed reports, allegedly said she would leave “Wowowee” as soon as Willie is reinstated as main host.

Meanwhile, Willie’s daughter, Meryll Soriano, has hinted that he is bound to return to “Wowowee.” She did so in the July 21 episode of “TV Patrol” where she revealed spending time with Willie recently.

“Lagi kaming nandoon ng anak ko sa kanya, nagsi-swimming. Iyon lang ang buhay ng tatay ko, ‘yung anak ko, bilang apo. Very good na meron kaming time at least kahit konti lang kasi babalik na siya uli sa very hectic schedule niya,” Meryll told “TV Patrol” entertainment anchor Mario Dumaual.

Meryll is excited about her father’s impending return to the noontime show.

“Kung tuloy na tuloy na ‘yung pagbabalik ng papa ko, at least ‘yung maraming nakaka-miss sa kanya, makikita n’yo na siya uli. Kasi ‘Wowowee’ is not the same without him. That’s true, ‘di ba, because that’s his name, ‘Wowowee.’

Charice undergoes cosmetic procedures for 'Glee'

Charice recently underwent non-invasive cosmetic procedures at the Belo Medical Clinic as part of her preparations for the second season of “Glee.”

It was Dr. Vicki Belo who did the thermage and Botox procedures on the 18-year-old international singing sensation.

While the 30-minute thermage procedure was painless, Charice was in tears as Belo injected Botox in her face, specifically in the jaw area. Charice admitted that she was afraid of needles.

Belo explained that the thermage and Botox were meant to make her “naturally round face” more narrow.

“Charice's face, I’ve been noticing, it's been getting wider… That’s why she looks mataba, although the body is very small, because your face is getting wide. One of the reasons for that, nagchew-chewing gum [siya]… Our chewing muscles, if you chew a lot of gums, it gets bigger,” Belo said.

“The other thing, she really has a natural round face. So what we did, we did thermage, pampaliit ng mukha ‘yon... ‘yong muscle [sa jaw area] na nagbu-bulge, puwedeng i-Botox para maging normal ulit. And then she will not chew gums anymore para maganda na siya sa ‘Glee.’”

The celebrity doctor said the effects of thermage and Botox will be gradual and visible in several months.

She said: “Thermage works in about 3 months. ‘Yong Botox, you will see the difference in about a month.”

‘Glee’ preps

Charice, for her part, said undergoing cosmetic procedures was now paramount especially since she will be appearing in one of the biggest shows in the United States.

“Lahat po ng mga tao inaasahan nila, ‘Ano kaya ‘yong itsura ni Charice? Karapat-dapat ba siyang itapat kay Rachel Berry?’ So, siyempre sobrang laki ng pressure,” she said.

After the cosmetic procedures, Charice proceeded to Eastwood Park in Quezon City where 5,000 people watched her perform. Among Charice's special guests were Belo and the doctor's rumored boyfriend, Hayden Kho.

'Showtime' holds wild card week for last slot in the finals

The cast is almost complete for the first grand finals of the country’s most favorite talent variety program, “Showtime,” on ABS-CBN.

After its last monthly finals on Saturday, July 17, the top-rating show will hold a wild card round starting Monday, July 19, to give a second chance to other groups which brought amusement to the Madlang Pipol but didn’t advance beyond the monthly finals.

The winning groups will battle it out on the wild card finals on Friday, July 23, for the last slot in the “Showtime” grand finals on July 24 at the Yñares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

Aside from the returning contestants, viewers should also look forward to the three mystery judges who will sit beside resident judge Vice Ganda in the Wild Card Round. The three judges are said to be the best people to judge the groups because they know them very well.

The best of Probe on ABS-CBN

This is the story of the little production company that made a big impact on the Philippine broadcast industry.

After over two decades of fearless stories, groundbreaking concepts and quality productions, award-winning and pioneer investigative program “Probe” will finally unveil its own story in “Probe: Ang Ating Kuwento” this Sunday (July 18) on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best.

Former Probe members including its co-founder and current ABS-CBN Head of News and Current Affairs Maria Ressa, broadcast journalists Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala, Judith Torres, David Celdran, and Tony Velasquez, and many others will join “Probe” main anchor and driving force Cheche Lazaro in remembering the biggest and most memorable stories in the program’s glorious run.

Reporters, producers, production assistants and even camera crew will recount how they covered specific events as Probe’s story is intertwined with the country's history in the last 24 years.

They talk about the challenges they faced, the dangers they encountered in pursuit of a story. The reporters and producers also discuss how storytelling has changed as the show changed formats and stations over the years.

The viewers will also get a glimpse of what went on behind the camera as the Probers share their funny stories on coverage. Lastly, the Probers also talk about the Probe standard, their learnings from Probe and from Lazaro herself.

Under Lazaro’s leadership, Probe became a byword for excellent journalism with stories that didn’t only bare the highs and lows of the country but also raised the standards in broadcasting.

Probe also became a training ground for world-class anchors, reporters, producers, writers, graphics designers, editors, and cameramen, who make up its elite list of alumni.

Lazaro maintains that the world has not seen the last of “Probe.” “We’re closing the weekly format but we will continue to make a positive contribution to television,” she said.

Don’t miss “Probe: Ang Ating Kuwento” this Sunday (July 18) after “TV Patrol Linggo” on ABS-CBN.

‘Heavyweights’ Line Up to be ‘Giants-No-More’ at the Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Auditions

Kapamilya heavyweights trooped to the PBB Eviction Hall recently for the chance to be a contestant in ABS-CBN’s latest reality show.

The “biggie-sized” Pinoys faced their first challenge as they lined up and waited in the hope of finally achieving their dreams by getting their ideal weight through the “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” (BLPE).

BLPE director Jon Raymond Moll said the huge turnout was a sign of the big things coming in the show. “With the variety of the people who auditioned, we can expect a very good first season,” said Moll, who was one of the executive producers of the hit reality show “PBB Double Up.”

There were applicants who were just a few pounds over the 250lbs minimum for men and 200lbs minimum for women while there were those whose weight went beyond the capacity of the weighing scales.

In the interviews, the applicants shared their colorful stories and even embarrassing experiences like when they were called “elephants” or “giants” by other people. Some also mentioned their over-the-top eating habits like finishing a whole chocolate mousse cake by himself or munching up food every 30 minutes.

Asked what they would do when they get fit, a hopeful said she would run and hang-out with friends while another joked that she will post her picture in a dating website.

Executive Producer Reily Santiago assessed that the applicants where after self-improvement and really joined to improve themselves and not for the cash and prize package. “We hope that those who won’t advance to the next level of auditions will still pursue and achieve the change they hope for,” he said.

Catch the “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” auditions on July 16 at Metro Town, Tarlac, July 30 at Park Mall Cebu, August 6 at Embarcadero de Legaspi, Legaspi City, and on August 13 at SM City Iloilo. Men weighing 250lbs. up and women 200lbs. up, both in good health and aged 18-40 years old may tryout by simply bringing a valid ID and close up and whole body photos.

Kapamilya abroad may also audition. Watch out for announcements on the global auditions on ABS-CBN.

Charlene signs contract with ABS-CBN

Former Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Charlene Gonzales-Muhlach is back as Kapamilya after she signed a contract with ABS-CBN.

The contract is for Charlene's hosting job for Kapamilya's top-rating weekly TV entertainment show "The Buzz."

Charlene who was accompanied by her mother during the contract signing expressed joy over her latest project.

"Magiging kapamilya na ako ulit. I'm just happy to be part of Kapamilya again. It feels good. I think 'yung last show ko dito was three years ago, 'yung 'At Home Ka Dito.' And once a Kapamilya, always a Kapamilya. It's nice to be back in your home," Charlene said.

Charlene was introduced as one of the new co-hosts of “The Buzz” last Sunday, July 11. She said she's just happy working with very good and professional hosts like Toni Gonzaga (the show’s other newest co-host), KC Concepcion and King of Talk Boy Abunda.

"It's nice to work with good hosts. Lahat sila ay magagaling and very professional and pinaka-importante ay mabait silang lahat," she said.

Charlene who is always open to trying different things said she's happy that her husband Aga Muhlach and children Andres and Atasha were very supportive.

"Surprisingly yes he's very supportive. Kasi lahat ng major decision sa buhay ko pinag-uusapan namin (ni Aga) and he is very, very supportive," Charlene said.

Charlene bared that because of her new job, her family's weekends will never be the same.

"Dun lang kami nanibago kasi kapag Sunday nasa Mataas Na Kahoy kami sa Batangas. Doon lang nagbago kasi we [usually] go out of town. So, now our weekends are not the same. So siguro ang mga lakad namin ay magiging weekends na lang," she said.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview, matinee idol Aga Muhlach said he sees nothing wrong with Charlene's newest hosting project even if it will affect their Sundays.

"Our Sunday will be different now, but that's only two hours of the whole day. That's fine. All good, every day namin is Sunday so we have all the time. It's super balanced so everything is okay," Muhlach said.
