Green Rose

GREEN ROSE: A remake of Koreanovela action drama series of the same title. Anne Curtis will be paired with Jericho Rosales and Jake Cuenca in this project

SYNOPSIS: (Korean)

Lee Jung-Hyun (Go Soo) and Oh Soo-ah (Lee Da Hae) are living a normal life as a couple until it is revealed that Soo-ah is actually the daughter Oh Byung-moo, chairman of SR electronics where Jung-hyun works. The chairman does not recognize Jung-hyun as his daughter's fiancé. One day Jung-hyun is summoned to the chairman's vacation house. Inside, Jung-hyun finds the chairman unconscious.

When Jung-hyun attempts to carry the chairman out of the house a fire is started and Jung-hyun is knocked out. Jung-hyun is then framed for the attempted murder of the chairman and arson. Jung-hyun's mother attempts suicide so that her son can get out of jail for a couple of days to prove his innocence. He is helped by Director Suh Jun-moo, a long time friend of the chairman.

Cornered, Jung-hyun jumps off a bridge and is believed to be dead. After escaping to China, he experienced good care and love from a Korean man named Lee Choon-bok, who has Jung-hyun's surname, that the man helped him from painful experience and saved him from accidents and sickness he may receive outside a building, and Choon-bok becomes a guardian for him.

After becoming the CEO of a Chinese company, he goes back to Korea to claim back his life under the alias Zhang Zhongyuan. Soo-ah immediately recognizes Jung-hyun even though its been 4 years and she was with a suspicious man named Shin Hyun-tae (Lee Jong Hyuk).Under the help of his friends, it is revealed that the chairman was involved in the death of Soo-ah's father and that Shin was the one that wanted the chairman dead.

Director Suh witnessed the whole thing but he also wanted the chairman dead. Shin was the one that tried to kill the chairman but Director Suh was the one that knocked out Jung-hyun. In the end both Shin and Suh commit suicide and Jung-hyun reclaims his name and his love Soo-ah.

Former GMA Artist Center Talent Joseph Marco Now With Star Magic

Joseph Marco was first seen in TV commercials such as Head & Shoulders with Angel Locsin, Coke, E-Aji Dip Snax and Downy.

Then, Marco got his big break when he was signed up with GMA Artist Center in September 2007 as part of its newest batch of stars alongside other new artists in which some are relatives of famous celebrities or politicians. He was one of the first of his batch to have been given TV projects. He was also included in the Philippines' Cosmopolitan magazine's 2007 69 Bachelors.

In 2010, Marco made the big move by transferring network to ABS-CBN and signing-up to its talent arm, Star Magic. He joined in the Star Magic Ball on September of the same year, an event for all the talents of the said agency. Marco was cast to play opposite Jessy Mendiola as on screen partner to rival AJ Perez in ABS-CBN's upcoming show Sabel airing this December 6, 2010.

International singing sensation Charice and her idol, Lea Salonga, now have one award in common.

The 18-year-old, who was dubbed by Oprah Winfrey as the Most Talented Girl in the World, is one of the 2 recipients of the BPInoy award this year.

Initiated by Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) in 2005, the award aims to recognize Filipinos who have given the country pride and honor by excelling in their chosen fields at the international level.

Charice was unable to attend the BPInoy awarding ceremony held at the Makati Shangri-La on Friday due to prior commitments abroad.

The pint-sized singer, however, sent a short video thanking BPI for giving her the award.


"Sa bawat kanta na inaawit at aawitin ko, ang Pilipino ang nasa isip ko (The Filipino is always on my mind in every song I sing and will be singing)," she said in the video.

Her manager, Grace Mendoza, accepted the award on her behalf.

"She (Charice) considers this award as an inspiration to sing more and to do better," Mendoza said, adding that Charice continues to suffer from dehydration following a food poisoning incident in Singapore late last month. (Read story here.)

Salonga, who received the BPInoy award in 2006 for her highly successful international singing career, congratulated Charice on being recognized as a source of Filipino pride.

"She is a Filipino doing amazingly well in the entertainment industry, bringing focus to her country. Here's hoping the country does right by her," the Tony award-winning performer, best known for her musical role Kim in Miss Saigon, said in a statement.

ABS-CBN dominates 19th KBP Golden Dove Awards

The Kapamilya network dominated the 19th Golden Dove Awards arranged by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP).

ABS-CBN brought home a total of 22 awards on Thursday night, capping it with the Best TV Station recognition.

The broadcast giant’s News and Current Affairs programs received several recognitions.

“Bandila” got Best TV Newscast, “Rated K” for the Best TV Magazine Program, “Sports Unlimited” for Best TV Sports Program, while “Salamat Dok” was named Best Public Service Program.

ABS-CBN’s “Harapan: The Vice Presidential Debate” bagged the Best TV Special Program recognition and Studio 23’s “Y-Speak” got Best Public Service Program.

It was a double win for “Maalaala Mo Kaya” as it won Best Radio and TV Drama Program.

For radio categories, dzMM’s “Sa Kabukiran” was named Best Radio Science and Technology Program while Ka Louie Tabing won the Best Radio Science and Technology Journalist award. “Pasada 630” of Karen Davila and Vic Lima again won the Best Radio Public Service Program, and “Radyo Patrol Balita” of Alex Santos and Jasmin Romero got Best Radio Newscast Award.

The Best Radio Jock award wento to China Heart of 101.9FM.

For individual awards, Henry Omaga-Diaz was named Best TV Newscaster while Alex Santos was honored as the Best Radio Newscaster.

Boy Abunda was named the Best Public Affairs Program host for "The Bottomline," Ted Failon as the Best Radio Public Affairs host, and DZMM’s Edwin Sevidal for Best Radio Field Reporter.

Judy Ann Santos was also recognized as the Best TV Drama Actress while Coco Martin got the Best TV Drama actor award.

The highest recognition given by the KBP was awarded to Ces Drilon, who was named as the Ka Doroy Broadcaster of the Year.

KBP holds the annual event with the aim to give tribute to the best programs on TV and radio.

Sid Lucero recognized at Int’l Emmy Awards in NY

Acclaimed Filipino actor Sid Lucero failed to snag the country’s first golden statue at the 38th International Emmy Awards in New York, but took home a gold medal held.

English actor Bob Hoskins (“Hook,” “Who Framed Roger Rabit”), considered by Sid as one of his most admired personalities, bagged the “Best Performance by an Actor” trophy for his role on “The Street.” He topped other fellow nominees Leonardo Sbaraglia of Argentina and Sebastian Koch of Germany.

Sid, the first Filipino actor to ever be nominated in that category, nevertheless received a gold medal from the award-giving body for his intense portrayal of Red Ramirez in the similarly nominated series, “Dahil May Isang Ikaw.”

In an interview a day before the awards night aired on ABS-CBN’s “Balitang America,” Sid expressed his gratitude over the recognition.

“Para sa inyo naman talaga ‘yung ginagawa naming trabaho eh, so siguro ito (medal) ‘yung pinakamalaking thank you na naibigay ng buong Pilipinas sa’kin.

“This means that I’m doing my job well enough for the world to realize that we do, as in the Philippines, our industry has what it takes given its limitations,” he said.

“Dahil May Isang Ikaw,” directed by Jerry Lopez-Sineneng and Richie del Carmen, likewise lost to Portugal’s “My Love” for “Best Telenovela.”

With the many accolades that the country and its artists have been receiving, Sid—the 2008 Thessaloniki (Greece) International Festival’s Best Actor for the film “Selda”—believes that, “We have a chance to make a dent in this industry worldwide, despite the limitations that we have.”

“Ano pa kaya kung mabigyan tayo ng mas malaking budget? Or mas maraming oras? Ano pa kaya?” he maintained.

Although an esteemed actor in the Philippines, Sid also looked forward during his New York trip to meet “everyone who has made it, it’s like an inspiration to all the actors.”

ABS-CBN dismisses talk that new teen show will replace 'Win na Win'

The Kapamilya network disproved speculations that a new teen variety show will take the place of “Pilipinas Win na Win” in ABS-CBN’s noontime lineup.

Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications department, told Bulletin Entertainment via a text message sent last Nov. 19:

“There is no truth to the rumors and media reports that ‘Pilipinas Win na Win’ will soon be replaced by ‘Shoutout,’ a youth-oriented show which starts on Nov. 29. ‘Shoutout’ replaces ‘Kapamilya Blockbusters’.”

“Win na Win” has been beset with a typhoon of intrigues since its launch last July 31 as replacement show of “Wowowee”:

These include the long-running absence of hosts and now-husband and wife Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez, controversial TV host-actress Kris Aquino's exit from the show, the alleged poor ratings and the host lineup changes.

The latest set of hosts on the show is comprised by The Hitmakers — Rico J. Puno, Nonoy Zuñiga, Rey Valera and Marco Sison — comediennes Pokwang and K Brosas, and Valerie Concepcion.

Janelle Jamer, another previous host of “Wowowee,” and Gee Canlas, who is part of “Music Uplate Live,” joined The Hitmakers as co-hosts. However, they ended their stint last Nov. 12. The ABS-CBN Corporate Communications department said in a previous statement that the two were “guest hosts.”

“Ang sabi talaga sa amin was one week lang kami. For trial lang talaga kami. Pero dahil naging okay ‘yung ratings, feeling ko they decided to keep us. Para sa amin, kahit sandali lang, malaking privilege na maging part ng 'Win na Win'. The other good things will just start from there,” Canlas said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Push.

Meanwhile, “Shoutout” will be headlined by Star Magic artists Enchong Dee, Erich Gonzales, Empress, Sam Concepcion, Robi Domingo, Arron Villaflor, and Enrique Gil. They will also be joined by other budding Kapamilya teen and tween stars.

Karen, Julius to join Ces in 'Bandila'

Multi-awarded broadcast journalists Karen Davila and Julius Babao are set to join Ces Oreña Drilon as anchors of ABS-CBN's late night newscast Bandila starting Monday.

ABS-CBN Corp., in a statement, announced the anchor shuffle on Friday. (The full press release is below.)

"ABS-CBN bolsters its late night newscast 'Bandila' by bringing together multi-awarded broadcast journalists Ces Oreña Drilon, Julius Babao, and Karen Davila to deliver the nation's biggest news and stories beginning Monday (Nov 22)," the statement said.

"Babao and Davila’s addition to the program also marks the dawn of a new and more interactive 'Bandila,' wherein viewers are given a chance to air their reactions to every news item," it said.

"We want our viewers to have a platform where they can immediately express themselves, where they feel empowered to take part not just in the discussion but in finding solutions to the issue at hand," Bandila's executive producer Paul Henson said.

ABS-CBN's 9-mo profits more than double on strong ad sales

Earnings of ABS-CBN Corp., the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, more than doubled in the first 9 months of the year, thanks to higher regular advertising revenues.

The Lopez-owned firm reported that its net income for the January to September 2010 surged by 123% to P2.9 billion from P1.3 billion in the same period last year.

Consolidated revenues reached a record level of P24.7 billion, representing a 35% year on year growth. Advertising revenues accounted for the bulk or 68% of the total, while consumer sales contributed the remaining 32%.

Total advertising revenues across all platforms and subsidiaries amounted to P16.9 billion during the 9-month period, P6.2 billion or 58% higher than the P10.7 billion for the same period in 2009.

Advertising revenues from regular advertisers grew by 37% to P14.6 billion, while non-recurring political advertising revenues carried over from the first semester amounted to P2.3 billion.

Total advertising minutes sold by Channel 2 from January to September jumped 46%. Advertising minutes sold to regular advertisers rose 36%, accounting for 93% of total minutes. Election-related advertising in the first semester contributed 7% of total minutes sold.

ABS-CBN Corp. maintained its national audience share and ratings leadership as total-day audience share averaged 41% in the third quarter, with a lead of 7 percentage points over GMA-7, going by Kantar Media figures.

Meanwhile, the company's consumer sales reached P7.8 billion, posting an increase of P160 million or 2% from a year ago, mainly owing to the contributions of Skycable and ABS-CBN Global.

ABS-CBN Global’s revenues rose by 8% year-on-year in US dollar terms but this growth slowed to 3% in peso terms, given the continued appreciation of the local currency.

Skycable’s consolidated revenues, on the other hand, grew 10% in the first 9 months of 2010, powered by a 77% increase in broadband service revenues.

ABS-CBN Corp.'s total expenses went up 21% to P17.4 billion due to higher production costs and general and administrative expenses.

Reported EBITDA hit a record high of P6.9 billion, 33% or P1.7 billion higher than reported EBITDA last year.
