ABS-CBN to Remake ‘Mula sa Puso’

After the successful remake of “Mara Clara” which is currently the most-watched tv program nationwide, ABS-CBN is planning to remake another classic soap opera.

The highly-rated drama series “Mula sa Puso” which launched the careers of Claudine Barretto and the late Rico Yan in the 90s will grace primetime television once again.

“Mula sa Puso” premiered on March 10, 1997 and ended on April 2, 1999 and soared in primetime viewership for more than 2 years with as high as 56.5% tv rating.

It was re-aired in Studio 23 and Kapamilya Channel, which are both ABS-CBN subsidiaries. It was also made into a movie under Star Cinema.

Aside from Claudine and Rico, the original characters of the said soap opera were Diether Ocampo, Patrick Garcia, Rica Peralejo, and Princess Punzalan as the villain.

Now for the new version, will ABS-CBN cast new talents or will they give the roles to some young stars we are already familiar with?

Mutya is ABS-CBN's newest child star

ABS-CBN's upcoming television series on hope, faith and love entitled "Mutya" will showcase the talent of new child star Mutya Orquia, said to be the newest "Marina."

Written by the late Pablo S. Gomez, "Mutya" tells the story of mermaids. A woman named Cordelia falls in love with a merman named Irvin, who happens to be the prince of the sea. But their love is not enough to withstand trials. Irvin is forced to marry another mermaid while Cordelia gives birth to their daughter "Mutya."

Aside from introducing Kapamilya's newest child actress, the series is also the comeback project of Alfred Vargas 7 years after he did his last ABS-CBN series "Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan."

After her remarkable role in "May Bukas Pa," beauty queen-actress Precious Lara Quigaman is back on TV via "Mutya" as she plays the role of Cordelia.

Part of the powerhouse cast of "Mutya" are Malou Crisologo as Octupina, Sandy Andolong as Madam Delilah (mother of Cordelia), Tess Antonio as Ester, Gary Lim as Lolo Sheldon, and Pen Medina as Haring Merrick.

Entertainment journalist Ogie Diaz is also part of the newest series after his stint on "Momay."

Stars Nina Jose, Ahron Villena and Jairus Aquino are also included in the series.

"Mutya" is directed by Erick Salud and Jojo Saguin, and promises to give viewers an out-of-this-world under the sea adventure.

The 4-year-old Mutya will shower hope and love in "Mutya" starting Monday, January 31, on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida.

The network's last TV series on mermaids was "Marina" in 2004 with Claudine Barretto in the lead role of Marina.

There are reports spreading that actor Derek Ramsey is transferring from ABS-CBN to TV5. Another report say that Derek's contract with TV5 is a done deal according to Juicy, TV5's showbiz talk show.

However, his manager denied this and said that Derek Ramsey will co-host The Biggest Loser with Sharon Cuneta and will be part of another teleserye with Kris Aquino.

Anne Curtis is supportive of ABS-CBN's plan to air a new noontime variety show

"We knew that from the beginning. They asked 'Showtime' very quickly at the end of last year to become noontime for 3 hours. So naloka kami every time kapag may nawawala o [nung sinabi nilang,] 'Ilagay natin 'yan'. And we agree naman to that.

"But 3 hours ang haba-haba pala. So we took on the challenge that was given to us. And they told us naman back in December na it's gonna be until February. So it's OK. Go, fight kami diyan," she said.

Curtis revealed that it was a big relief for her to learn that "Showtime" will be brought back to its original running time and time slot.

"They told us, thank God, that they would bring us back to 10:30 which is really our market. Like, all the students complain on Twitter na hindi sila nakakapanood dahil kasabay ng klase," Curtis said.

Report has it that the new show will be top-billed by Toni Gonzaga, Randy Santiago and Mariel Rodriguez.

Curtis got dragged into a controversy recently involving Rodriguez and Gonzaga. Previous reports said it was Curtis who told Gonzaga that Rodriguez was badmouthing her.

When asked for her reaction now that Rodriguez will be back on noontime, Curtis replied: "I think that would be good. I think that's a statement already that Poki, Mariel, Valerie--they are already pang-noontime host. I think it should be given back. If given a chance, then why not? They had a long break. They need to come back na."

Curtis maintained that even after the Gonzaga-Rodriguez issue, she had nothing against Rodriguez.

"Wala, wala talaga as in nothing," she added.

Until now, there is still no official statement yet regarding the new show’s working title and schedule of airing.

Anne will record own album

Actress-host Anne Curtis announced that her dream of having her own album will finally come true.

In an interview, the actress said that part of her bucket list is to have her own CD.

"Magkaka-album ako. Serious ako! Oo nga (magre-release) sa VIVA, yes. Inupo ko ang VIVA at sinabi ko sa kanila bakit magkakaroon ng album si Vice Ganda before me. Nasa 13 years na ako sa showbiz. So, si Vic boss sabi niya, 'Sige pagbigyan na natin siya'," Curtis said.

A self-proclaimed frustrated singer, Curtis said her album set for release this year will feature her favorite songs.

"Ako ang kakanta at magkakaroon din ako ng guest sa album ko," Curtis added.

The actress dedicates her upcoming album to all the people whose passion is to sing but cannot sing well.

"For me kasi it's a statement to all the singers out there na hindi nakakakanta pero passion nila ang kumanta," she said.

Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis will portray the lead roles in the upcoming teleserye on ABS-CBN, Green Rose. Also starring in the series are Alessandra de Rossi and Jake Cuenca.

Other cast members include Gardo Versoza, Ricardo Cepeda, Susan Africa, Ping Medina, Smokey Manaloto, Tyron Perez, Eda Nolan, Kitkat and Janus Del Prado.

ABS-CBN to telecast Azkals tiff

Giant TV network ABS-CBN will be the official coveror of the much-awaited AFC Challenge Cup match between the Philippine Azkals and Mongolia on February 9, Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president Mariano Araneta said on Tuesday.

ABS-CBN beat out rivals GMA-7 and TV-5 for the broadcasting rights of the event, which will be held in the 15,000-seater Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

“It’s ABS-CBN,” said Araneta, adding that it was Dan Palami, the Azkals’ team manager, who negotiated with the three TV networks. Araneta and Palami were set to meet late yesterday to discuss the TV rights deal.

Palami could not be reached for comment.

No further detail was given by Araneta, although he said the contract signing between the two groups is set on Monday.

Reached for comment, Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN’s vice president for news and sports, said they are grateful that they have agreed in principle although the details of the deal have yet to be finalized.

No less than President Aquino has been invited to grace the first match of the home-and-away qualifier, with thesecond meeting set in Mongolia on March 15.

Meanwhile, the Azkals’ new head coach German coach Hans Michael Weiss arrived over the weekend with a promise of steering the Azkals to another success following their amazing semifinal finish in the Challenge Cup last month.

Piolo Pascual finally put an end to persistent rumors that he was switching stations. Melai Cantiveros is ready to star in her launching project

Melai Cantiveros will soon star in her own teleserye together with real-life boyfriend Jason Francisco in the next installment of Precious Hearts Romances entitled Mana Po. The Prinsesa ng Masa admitted that although she is nervous, she is ready to take on the challenge. “Sobrang happy kasi nag-trust ang ABS-CBN na bigyan kami ng show. Isa itong pagsubok sa amin, sobrang mabigat na hamon ito sa amin. At the same time sa aming dalawa [ni Jason] nag-iikot ang story,” she shared. Their fellow Pinoy Big Brother Double Up ex-housemate Tom Rodriguez will portray the third wheel in their team-up in the upcoming series.

When Push.com.ph asked Melai if she is ready for the responsibilities that go along with playing the lead in her own show, she replied, “Nakaya ko naman nung nag-star ako sa Maalaala Mo Kaya at Wansapanataym. Nakaya ko naman din pero hindi ko rin masabi dahil isang araw lang [ang mga] ‘yun, eh. Ngayon matagal ito, eh. Kinabahan ako, pero gagawin ko rin naman ang lahat kung anuman ang makakaya ko.” The teleserye will be romantic-comedy, of which Melai joked, “May drama, may comedy, may hahaha! May pressure, romance, may love story. Basta halo-halo. Sila na lang bahala maglunok (absorb).”

The Inday Kenkay ng GenSan is a mainstay of the daily gag show Banana Split and will also be one of the hosts an upcoming reality-based show, I Dare You, opposite Jericho Rosales and Iya Villania. She also revealed that an offer to make an indie film in the future is also possible.

Melai said that she is open to have other leading men besides Jason, but admitted that she is most comfortable working with her boyfriend. “Naka-try naman po ako ng ibang leading man gaya sa Inday Bote sa Wansapanataym kahit maiksi lang. Pero okay din lang kaming dalawa ni Jason dahil leading man ko naman din siya sa halos lahat ng projects.” She related that she just feels uncomfortable if she has a new leading man, and an intimate scene is required, such as that with Sam Milby in Impostor and they had to do a kissing scene by the seashore. “Naiilang kasi kapag maraming tao sa mga scene na ganon kasi iba ‘pag kayong dalawa (Melai and Jason) kahit maraming taong nanonood.”

She happily revealed that their relationship is now on its 11th month and despite their away-bati relationship, she is happy that they have grown more understanding of each other.

Star Records Reigns 2010′s Top Selling Albums

Last year was indeed a shining year for ABS-CBN’s recording arm, Star Records, as six out of the ten top selling albums of 2010 came from the said network’s subsidiary.

Data coming from Astrovision/Astroplus, one of the leading retail outlets in the country with 54 stores nationwide, showed that Star Records have dominated their list of top 10 selling albums last year. Jovit Baldivino’s “Faithfully” owned the top spot. Music industry wide, Jovit’s first album is also the best selling abum of the year. Piolo Pascual’s “Decades 1”, Willie Revillame’s “Ikaw Na Nga,” “I-Star” Anniversary album and Juris’ “Now Playing” landed on the third, fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively. The compilation album “60 Taon ng Musika at Soap Opera” took the 8th post.

Music Uplate Live, a late-night musical-interactive show, awarded the six albums last January 7.

This is a strong proof that Star Records has offered nothing but fifteen years of quality music and recording and will continually provide superior and premiere albums through the years.

ABS-CBN claims wide lead in ’10 nationwide TV rating

Lopez company says audience share hit 43%

BROADCAST GIANT ABS-CBN Corp. ended last year with a wide lead in nationwide television ratings as more households tuned in to its shows, despite the increased competition within the industry, the latest survey by Kantar Media showed.

In a statement, the Lopez-led multimedia conglomerate said it capped 2010 with a 41-percent national audience share last December, much higher than its rival GMA Network Inc.’s 28 percent.

For the whole of 2010, the company posted an average nationwide audience share of 43 percent, or 10 percentage points higher than GMA’s 33 percent.

The company attributed its dominance not only to its stronger signal, especially in the countryside, but also to the higher quality of its programs.

“Eighteen out of the top 20 most watched programs nationwide were produced by ABS-CBN,” the company said.

In the key primetime segment, ABS-CBN said its news program “TV Patrol” was still the most watched, garnering an audience share of 31.2 percent for the whole of 2010. GMA’s own news program “24 Oras” posted a lower 21.5 percent.

The statement made no mention of TV5’s variety program “Willing Willie,” hosted by former ABS-CBN talent Willie Revillame.

“Willing Willie,” which started airing late last year at the same time slot as the news programs of its rival networks, is TV5’s top rating show.

TV5 is now controlled by the group of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. chair Manuel Pangilinan.

ABS-CBN has consistently held on to the lead in nationwide ratings mainly due to its network’s wider reach. However, rival station GMA holds the lead in the viewer-rich Metro Manila area, where more than half of television viewers are.

ABS-CBN generated a net income of P2.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, as it sustained into the third quarter the strong growth momentum in regular advertising revenues in the first semester.

This profit level is more than double the net income of P1.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009.

The company likely posted the highest profit in its history in 2010 of over P3 billion, benefiting from the boost given by political campaign-related advertisements that proliferated the airwaves in the year’s first five months.

Ogie Diaz back on TV series via 'Mutya'

Entertainment host and columnist Ogie Diaz shared that he will be back on acting via a new television series.

In his 40th birthday celebration, the "E-Live" host said that he will be part of ABS-CBN's upcoming series "Mutya."

"Mayroon akong gagawin teleserye, ang Mutya," Diaz said.

He added that he will be playing a vital role in the series since he will be the one to raise the show's lead star.

Diaz said he already started taping for the series that will be shown this coming March.

"Si Mutya ako ang mag-aalaga, nagtaping na kami at 'yan ay mapapanood nila sa March," he said.

Diaz's last acting project was for ABS-CBN's hit defunct series "May Bukas Pa" with Zaijan Jaranilla as the lead.

The series, which started airing February of 2009, ended on February 5, 2010.

Report has it Lara Quigaman will take the lead role as "Mutya" and will be paired with Alfred Vargas.

ABS-CBN claims ratings lead in 2010

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country's largest multimedia conglomerate, reported that its primetime line-up grabbed a 41 percent national audience share last December versus GMA 7’s 28 percent.

Based on Kantar Media's TV ratings data, ABS-CBN topped all TV stations for the whole of 2010 with an audience share of 43 percent, or 10 points higher than GMA's 33 percent.

Eighteen out of the top 20 most watched programs nationwide were produced by ABS-CBN.

The phenomenal primetime series “May Bukas Pa” took the top spot with an average rating of 38.6 percent. It was followed by the follow up santaserye “Agua Bendita” (37.9 percent), and hit talent-reality show ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ (35.3 percent).

International Emmy-nominated series “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (34.8 percent) came in fourth while “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” (34.3 percent) placed fifth.

When it comes to news, “TV Patrol” dominated 2010 with an average rating of 31.2 percent, making it the number one TV newscast in the country. GMA's “24 Oras” averaged only 21.5 percent or nine points behind “TV Patrol.”

In December 2010, ABS-CBN posted an average national audience share of 37 percent as compared to GMA 7’s 32 percent.

ABS-CBN Corporation generated net income of P2.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, as it sustained into the third quarter the strong growth momentum in regular advertising revenues in the first semester.

This profit level is more than double the net income of P1.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009. Kantar Media, a global market research group, offers audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.
