ABS-CBN launches summer station ID

ABS-CBN is beaming with passion and pride this summer.

The network's Summer Station ID this year is all about actualizing your potentials and displaying your talent as an individual or as a group, community or nation under the summer sun.

The music video, which was launched on Sunday on "ASAP Rocks," captures how ABS-CBN and its stars are inspired by Filipinos who strive to be the best that they can be.

ABS-CBN believes that despite the post global recession and other challenges that the country has faced, the resilience of Filipinos will never falter. With a renewed sense of optimism, the Philippines will continue to pursue excellence in any endeavor, it added.

The song “Bida Best sa Tag-Araw” was performed by Star Power grand winner Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno featuring rapper J.O.L.O. aka J-Dot. It was written by Love Rose De Leon and Niño Anglo, with music arranged and produced by Marcus Davis.

The 2011 Summer SID was jointly created by ABS-CBN’s Marketing team headed by Cookie Bartolome and Zita Aragon and ABS-CBN’s Creative Communications Management headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny de los Santos, Ira Zabat, and Patrick De Leon.

The SID Creative and Production team members are Dang Baldonado, Edsel Misenas, Kathrina Sanchez, Faith Zambrano, Joan Mole-Santiago, Christina Barbin, Marchie Blaire Mallari, Pam Mercado, Carla Payongayong, Shally Tablada, Mark Bravo, Sheryl Ramos, Adrian Lim, and Kitte Estabillo.

It was directed by Richard Ang and Paolo Ramos. But wait kung primetime ito papaano na ang robot-serye ng Star Cinema na 'Atom' na pagbibidahan nina Bugoy Carino at Jomari Yllana na ang balita ko ay mga June o July na ang airing (yan ay kung hinde mababago, alam mo naman sa ABS-CBN pabago-bago ang mga desisyon ng timeslot).

Sana nga matuloy ito dahil the new batch ng mga kidas ay nangangailangan ng mga ganitong klaseng programa...

Queenie Padilla joins Star Magic

Queenie Padilla becomes the latest Kapamilya talent to join the Star Magic family.

The 19-year-old eldest daughter of action star Robin Padilla hid her nervousness with smiles as she faced the press for the first time as a Star Magic talent.

While the young actress didn't delve into the details of her private life, she did speak about her admiration for stepmom Mariel Rodriguez. She debunked any speculation of conflict between her and her new stepmom.

Queenie said Rodriguez does offer her advice when it comes to matters of the heart, like not rushing into falling in love.

Queenie also defended her dad and Rodriguez’s relationship, saying she believes their marriage will last.

The young actress also defended her mom, Liezl Sicangco, and clarified rumors that her mom is not supportive of her career in show business.

Queenie said her mom is just reminding her about the teachings of Islam as well as for her to pick appropriate projects. It does not mean, however, that her mom is not fully supportive of her decision to enter showbiz.

When it comes to Queenie's love life, the actress said she is inspired to work harder but failed to directly answer whether or not she is in love.

Ejay Falcon, Queenie's on-screen love team, is constantly being linked to the actress.

When asked if Falcon is courting her, Queenie declined to give a direct answer.

She said: "We remain supportive of each other and remain close even if we are no longer paired with one another."

Queenie and Falcon are part of “Tum: My Plege of Love,” a Bollywood feel film directed and starred in by Padilla. Padilla's leading lady in the fim is Rodriguez.

Gretchen Barretto gears up for her new teleserye ‘Alta’

Gretchen is set to make a comeback on primetime TV with a new teleserye titled Alta wherein she will co star with Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, Zanjoe Marudo, and Sam Milby.

Gretchen shared that Alta is set to begin taping after the Holy Week and is tentatively scheduled to air by June.

According to her, a workshop is scheduled for all the stars of the teleserye, and as early as now, Gretchen is very much excited to befriending her co stars.

ABS-CBN gains visual and graphic edge through HP Workstations

ABS-CBN Corporation has been enriching the lives of Filipinos all over the world with superior television programming and top-rating shows produced for local and international audiences. Achieving tremendous growth throughout the years, they credit a big part of their success to high-performing computing technology to meet the highly demanding requirements of their technical production department.

Given this, I-POST, ABS-CBN’s post-production division, employed innovations from leading IT company, Hewlett-Packard, to power-up their critical requirements in video editing, visual effects, graphics, 3D design and animation, composing and musical scoring, and sound design.

The HP Z-series Workstations were incorporated in their extensive AVID post-production system provided by Digital Media Inc. to handle the bulk of their production needs.

“With the very demanding workflow of our technical production department, we require ultra reliable IT solutions that can get the job done. Throughout the years, we have been using HP Z-Series Workstations across all our divisions, and we have been depending on these technologies to perform our mission-critical tasks,” says Edwin Mendoza, Head for Technical Production Facilities Management of ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN employs almost 50 workstations for video editing, 30 workstations for visual effects and 3D design, 20 workstations for scoring and audio lay-in, and another 50 workstations for animation. Seeking to better support their technical needs, ABS-CBN migrated their core post-production systems to an HP-based platform using the next-generation revolutionary HP Z-series workstations.

“Considering the time-critical nature of our processes, IT hardware is essential in being able to successfully perform editing tasks by the time the shows air on television. And since we’ve encountered servicing issues with our past technology providers, we chose HP Workstation solutions with the advice of our IT teams. So far, HP has shown an outstanding track record and we’ve been enjoying exceptional reliability with the HP Z-series Workstations,” he explains.

People across the globe can now view content from abs-cbnNEWS.com straight from their Apple devices with the launch of the ABS-CBN News app on iTunes on Wednesday.

The application, which can be downloaded for free at the iTunes App Store, provides the latest news and information from various sections of abs-cbnNEWS.com.

The ABS-CBN News app synchronizes content from the website's various sections (Nation, Business, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Sports, Global Filipino, Editor's Pick and Breaking News) via Wi-Fi or a cellphone network.

It also has a "settings" menu which allows users to customize the app according to their needs and preferences.

The app, which has a file size of 4.5 megabytes, requires an iOS (iPhone's mobile operating system) of version 3.1 or higher.

It is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

ABS-CBN 2010 Profit Exceeds 3 Billion Pesos, Sales May Drop

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., the Philippines’ largest broadcaster, exceeded its 3 billion pesos ($69 million) profit target last year.

“Our target for 2011 is to match 2010,” Chief Financial Officer Rolando Valdueza told reporters in Manila today. Net income in 2009 was 1.7 billion pesos.

First-quarter revenue may drop from a year earlier in the absence of political advertisements which boosted earnings in early 2010, Lopez said. “We expect our other businesses to achieve growth for this year,” said Valdueza. “Overall, we see some growth.”

ABS-CBN shares fell 2.8 percent to 43.50 pesos at the noon close in Manila, declining the most since March 2.

Cesar Montano's son signs contract with ABS-CBN

The son of Cesar Montano and Teresa Loyzaga is the newest contract star of ABS-CBN.

Accompanied by his mom, 15-year-old Diego Loyzaga inked a 3-year exclusive contract with the Kapamilya network.

Diego will be under the management of Biboy Arboleda.

Present in his contract signing were ABS-CBN Channel Head Cory Vidanes, Entertainment Head Linggit Tan and Business Unit Head Deo Endrinal.

When asked how he feels now that he is officially part of the network, he told ABS-CBN News: “Terrific po. It feels really good po. I feel very welcome po and everyone’s so nice and kind to me po. I feel very happy.”

Diego revealed that his parents have nothing to do with his decision to join show business. He said it was his decision to venture into the entertainment world.

“I enjoy acting at school. We have theater. I really enjoy being part of it and that’s one of the main reasons. I wanted to try achieving what they have achieved,” he said.

Diego will join the cast of ABS-CBN’s top rating series “Mara Clara.”

ABS-CBN surpassed P3-b net profit goal last year

ABS-CBN Corp. said it exceeded the P3-billion profit target set last year and is looking at achieving the same level this year despite the absence of political advertisements.

ABS-CBN chairman and chief executive Eugenio Lopez III told reporters at the sidelines of a stockholders’ meeting that the broadcasting company registered a net income of over P3 billion in 2010 from P1.8 billion in 2009.

Lopez attributed the increase from the surge in political advertisements in the first four months of last year. The ads contributed more than P2.3 billion in revenues.

“That is a record profit,” he said. Lopez said the TV network expects a drop in revenues in the first quarter of 2011.

“Certainly the first quarter will have drop in revenues vis-a-vis the political but I think there is a significant and healthy growth in our overall business even without the political revenues,” he said.

ABS-CBN chief financial officer Rolando Valdueza said other businesses would offset the expected drop in airtime revenues this year.

“We expect other businesses like ABS-CBN Global, Sky Corp. and Star Cinema to achieve growth for this year,” he said.

He said the year would be characterized by the competitive environment which puts pressure on the broadcasting firm’s cost, especially in production and programming.

Valdueza said the company increased ad rates effective February.

Despite the rate increases by the top two TV networks, Valdueza said the industry’s advertising minutes still grew double-digit. ABS-CBN is looking at ending the year with 5 to 7 percent growth in ad revenues.

ABS-CBN reported a net income of P2.9 billion in the first nine months of the year, up 15 percent from P1.3 billion in the same period last year.

Revenues grew 35 percent to P24.7 billion, with 68 percent coming from advertising and the rest from consumer sales.

Meanwhile, Lopez said ABS-CBN would stick with Japan’s integrated services digital broadcasting technology for the country’s shift to digital TV.

“We support the Japanese standard. We hope that the implementing rules and guidelines will come out soon because we are ready to roll out,” he added.

Erik Santos and Christian Bautista Wow Vienna Audience

After their successful concert in other parts of Europe, Erik Santos, Christian Bautista and Pooh wowed audiences in Vienna on March 2 for their next stop in their European concert tour.

The concert hall at the UCI Kino, Millennium City was filled with Filipinos, Austrians and Indonesians who all wanted to witness 'Champions of the Heart' with ace comedian Pooh.

It was the first time that the 3 ABS-CBN talents performed live in Austria.

“We attribute the success of our ‘Champions of the Heart Concert’ in Austria and in other parts of Europe to all of our sponsors and to all of our kababayans here, who have given us a warm welcome and continue to support us in our endeavors,” Bautista told the audience.

Ericson Cruz Oliva, producer of the Vienna concert, told ABS-CBN News, “With this once in a lifetime concert of the high-caliber and famous Pinoy talents--Christian Bautista, Erik Santos and Pooh--I am very much overjoyed by the support and enthusiasm of our kababayans here in Vienna. The concert hall was fully jam-packed. Ibig sabihin, we have the full support of the Filipinos here. In return, we make sure that our events get bigger and better, bringing them even closer to home.”

Santos and Bautista captivated the hearts of the Filipinos and Austrians with their remarkable performance. Adding more spice and laughter to the event was the marvelous comedian Pooh, whose biting wit and spot-on punch lines really tickled the funny bones of the crowd. He brought endless laughter to the crowd.

“Watching The Filipino Channel (TFC) and being a subscriber, I have watched countless shows and news from this network on my free time. A friend from Vienna told me that there would be a concert with the popular celebrities of ABS-CBN talents in Vienna. The show was great. Christian, Erik and Pooh were excellent in their performance. I was extremely satisfied with their show and it was indeed a wonderful experience,” a TFC subscriber from Upper Austria, who travelled 5 hours to Vienna for the concert, told ABS-CBN News.
