The NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks will air on ABS-CBN’s Channel 2 starting on Wednesday.

Game 1, which takes place at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, will be aired live on Channel 2 starting 9 a.m.

ABS-CBN’s TJ Manotoc and Boom Gonzales will be reporting live from Miami.

"Momentum is technically on the side of Dallas," said Manotoc. "But the hunger is of course is on the side of Miami as the Big 3 (Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and Lebron James) have proclaimed they want to win a championship right away."

The airing schedule will be as follows:

* · Game 1 - Wednesday (June 1) 9 a.m. on Channel 2
* · Game 2 - Friday (June 3) 9 a.m. on Channel 2
* · Game 3 - Monday (June 6) 8 a.m. on Channel 2
* · Game 4 - Wednesday (June 8) 9 a.m. on Channel 2

There will be replays on the same day on Studio 23 at 7 p.m.

ABS-CBN will not bid for PBA broadcast rights

ABS-CBN has announced that it will no longer bid for the broadcasting rights to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games.

"We felt that the Terms of Reference (TOR) were too stringent and onerous," said Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN Vice-President for Sports.

The network's withdrawal leaves ABC Sports 5 as the remaining bidder for the rights to broadcast PBA games.

The PBA games will air on Studio 23 until the end of this season's last conference, the Governor's Cup. After that, rights to the PBA's TV coverage are up for grabs.

The league is asking for P900 million for 5 years worth of broadcast rights.

Musngi felt that certain provisions in the PBA's TOR were too severe. He cited the competitive lockout provision, which will prevent the network from airing commercials of products that are competitive with brands carried by PBA teams during game coverage.

Aside from the competitive lockout provision, Musngi said that there were other stipulations that are too restrictive to the network, causing the withdrawal of the bid.

Lone bidder

In an interview with Boyet Sison on ANC's Hardball, PBA Commissioner Atty. Chito Salud said the league will review the financial and marketing proposals submitted by ABC Sports 5.

Although they remain the only bidder, the Board of Governors will not automatically grant broadcasting rights to the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned network.

"We'll see whether (their proposals) meet the approval of the Board of Governors of the PBA," said Salud.

Pangilinan owns two teams in the PBA - the Meralco Bolts and the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters.

"At the moment, I cannot preempt the board, whether they will accept the terms offered by ABC Sports 5," Salud said.

According to a report from the Philippine Star, Salud will meet with the top executives from ABC Sports 5 on Friday. The ABC 5 executives will formally present their proposals in the meeting.

"After the presentation, the Office of the Commissioner will make its recommendation to the Board of Governors as to the acceptability of ABC Sports 5's coverage offer," Salud said.

Last resort

Salud has also said that the league is still open to the idea of producing basketball games on their own, and buying air time on a suitable network.

"We shall pursue that option as a last resort," said Salud, admitting that it will be a challenge, both financially and logistically.

"But it is an option, should the ABC TV 5 offer not be acceptable." -- With a report from Boyet Sison, ANC

'Mara Clara’ Still Leads Primetime Nationwide Despite the Premiere of ‘Amaya’

Episodes away from its finale, “Mara Clara” still stands firm on the top as it leads the national primetime block yesterday, May 30, according to Kantar Media.

Earning high national TV ratings of 36.9% last Monday (May 30), “Mara Clara” nosed out its rival program on GMA 7, more than double the TV ratings of GMA’7s “Munting Heredera” that rated only 13.9%.

Even the pilot episode of GMA-7′s epicserye “Amaya” was not able to shake the ratings and it even failed to penetrate Kantar Media’s Top 5 programs as it only garnered 19.1 percent.

In the remaining episodes of the mother of all teleseryes, heart-thumping scenes have yet to be unraveled. Mara (Kathryn Bernardo) and Clara’s (Julia Montes) rift thickens. Gary (Jhong Hilario) gets even worse and obsessed with Alvira. Alvira’s (Dimples Romana) confusion intensifies. How will the characters in the series find resolution to their own conflicts?

Meanwhile, the roving “Mara Clara” LCDs will be at the following barangays: June 1-Julogan, Tanza Cavite; June 2- Pleasant Hills, Mandaluyong City; and June 3- Plaza Miranda Quiapo, Manila.

Find out as a historical ending unfolds this week on “Mara Clara,” after ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin,” on ABS-CBN. For more updates, log on to www.abs-cbn.com or follow abscbncotcom on Twitter.

'Guns and Roses' cast pressured to follow success of 'Mara Clara'?

The lead stars of ABS-CBN’s upcoming series "Guns and Roses" are confident that they can give the audience a story that they will definitely love.

During the grand press conference of the upcoming show on Tuesday, actress Bea Alonzo admitted that she is feeling the pressure that their show will replace the top rating series "Mara Clara."

She, however, stressed that the pressure could not make her, and the rest of the cast, work any less.

"Medyo kinakabahan po but we try not to think about the pressure. After all, at the end of the day, iyon naman ang nagma-matter. We're confident about doon sa nagawa namin. We're confident doon sa puwede naming i-offer,: she said.

This was affirmed by action star Robin Padilla.

Padilla acknowledged how "Mara Clara" made an impact in many viewers' lives, but emphasized that the audience should see what "Guns and Roses" has to offer.

"Mara Clara, legend na iyan, history na iyan. Pero pinapangako po namin sa inyo na buong puso po namin, buong lakas naming ibibigay ang lahat sa 'Guns and Roses' at ang partner po namin ay Star Cinema," he said.

Padilla added that the production staff of "Guns and Roses" are doing their best to meet high expectations.

"Guns and Roses" is set to air on ABS-CBN starting June 6 after "100 Days to Heaven."

Diet denies being choosy on projects

Actor Diether Ocampo has dispelled rumors claiming that he is picky on the what projects to accept, which caused him to be outside the limelight for quite a while.

During the grand press conference of ABS-CBN’s upcoming series “Guns and Roses” on Tuesday, Ocampo defended himself regarding the allegation, saying that he was elated when the management offered him a role in the series.

"Siyempre medyo kasi yung ibang mga proyekto nagawa ko na, I want to try something new so nung na-offer sa akin itong 'Guns and Roses,' sabi nila action drama, hindi ko pa talaga nagagawa ang mga ganitong klaseng proyekto kaya hindi totoo ang balita na choosy ako," he said.

Ocampo added that if not because of the projects ABS-CBN has entrusted to him, he wouldn’t be where he is.

The actor also addressed issues about his love life.

“Cheeseless. Walang [love life] eh. Ganoon yata talaga eh.

According to Ocampo, what matters now is the love that "Guns and Roses" can offer to the viewing public.

Marami ka ring matututunan sa Guns and Roses," he said.

I Dare You Soon to Hit TV!

ABS-CBN is set to launch a new reality show titled "I Dare You" to be hosted by Jericho Rosales, Iya Villania and Melissa Cantiveros of "Pinoy Big Brother" fame.

At a photo shoot for the show held recently, the three hosts briefly discussed the gist of the new program, which is produced in partnership with the ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Department.

"I Dare You" will offer viewers a new perspective on their favorite Kapamilya stars who will undergo different challenges to test their character.

According to Rosales, the concept of this show is one of a kind, veering away from the normal showcase of a reality program.

"Basically ibang klase siya. It's a reality show pero ito 'yung klase ng reality show na may puso talaga...

It's not a charity show na magbibigay tayo ng mga papremyo. Main goal is actually buksan ang puso at isipan sa reyalidad ng buhay at ang pagkakaiba ng ‘I Dare You’ sa ibang reality shows dahil punong puno siya ng puso,” Rosales added.

The actor also said he will never regret that he accepted this project.

“(The experience) was nothing but great.
Villania, on the other hand, said this show will make a person think twice about his/her own perspective in life.

Mag-iiba din kasi tingin mo sa sarili mong buhay,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cantiveros said she had a great time doing this show.
"Sobrang enjoy. Noong una nahihiya ako (sa kanila ni Echo at Iya) pero parang naging on-the-go [ang] feelings ko,” she said.

Vilma Santos negotiates with TV5, but keeps commitments with ABS-CBN

Actress-politician Vilma Santos-Recto maintained that she will honor her prior commitment to ABS-CBN in spite of having negotiations with rival network TV5. The Batangas governor told PEP in a recent interview that she is slated to do a TV show with the Kapamilya network, as well as a movie with its film outfit, Star Cinema.

“Even before ‘yung meeting ko with TV5, okay na kami ng Channel 2. Baka isang movie lang ang magawa ko sa taon na ito, and that is ‘yung sa Star Cinema,” she said, adding that while she’s open to the possibility of doing two films this 2011, “naka-focus ako for one movie a year.”

As for the TV show, where she will be its main host, the award-winning actress said it might be a combination of her two worlds: showbiz and public service. She also revealed that her husband, Senator Ralph Recto, might be part of the show.

“Medyo ipa-finalize pa, pero naka-ready na at pinag-uusapan na namin,” Vilma said in the same PEP article.

Meanwhile, she also related that she has met with TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) and other executives of the Kapatid network for possible projects, one of which is a movie.

'Pag may script na, then pag-usapan na namin,” she said.

She was also offered to do a TV show, some commercials “at parang telecommunications,” Vilma added. The 57-year-old veteran, however, clarified that “wala pang finality ang lahat.”

But her dealings with MVP could possibly go beyond the realm of entertainment, as the TV5 honcho is willing to extend assistance to Vilma for her constituents.

“Last na napag-usapan namin ni Mr. Pangilinan, to help me as the governor of Batangas... Puwedeng hospital, sa tourism namin dito...” she revealed.

Amid these negotiations concerning her showbiz career, Vilma maintained that her political duties remain her top priority.

“Ayoko namang mapagsabihan na naman ako na 'absentee governor’,” she quipped, which may well refer to the controversy she got embroiled in when she did the Star Cinema film “In My Life” back in 2009.

“Once and for all, magkaibigan lang po kami ni Julia Montes,”

I’m in Love.

The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition's 1st week

In the show’s first weeks, the contestants will be divided into two teams—the Red Team will be trained by U.S. certified fitness specialist and mixed martial artist Chinggay Andrada while the Blue Team will be guided by sports scientist Jim Saret who was recently appointed by the Philippine Olympic Committee as head trainer of the National Team.

Each week, there will be a weigh-in. The team with the higher percentage of weight loss will be safe from elimination, while members of the losing team will each decide who they want to eliminate from their group.

Cuneta, who recently opened up about her own battle against weight gain in the program’s first primer “Bigating Pinoy,” said that the program hopes to change the lives of the viewers as much as the contestants. She said the program will impart guidance and information that Filipinos can use to start leading healthy lives and in building a stronger nation.

“Remember that when you choose to have a healthy lifestyle, you are given more time to become a father, a mother, a child, a sibling or friend to the people you hold close to your heart,” she said.

Get to know more about the show and the contestants on the second-part of the primer entitled “Bigating Simula: The Road to the Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition,” this Sunday (May 29), 11:15am on ABS-CBN. Don’t miss the shocking twists on the pilot episode of “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” on Monday (May 30), after “Mara Clara” on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.

Witness success stories as they happen as contestants of “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” undergo emotional and physical challenges to get in shape and change the course of their lives towards winning P1 million, a condominium unit from DMCI Homes, a Vespa scooter and the title “The Very First Pinoy Biggest Loser.”

ABS-CBN’s newest reality TV show offering also marks the return of Philippine Showbiz’s one and only Megastar Sharon Cuneta to primetime. Joining her is actor-sports enthusiast Derek Ramsay, who will serve as the game master during the program’s challenges.

Over the past week, ABS-CBN revealed the identities of its 12 contestants—seven males and five females—who all have heartfelt stories that can bring both tears and inspiration to every Filipino.

Architect Alan Choachuy wants to lose weight to be able to meet and watch his grandchildren grow. Art Mendoza, who recently separated from his wife, doesn’t want to die obese and not be able to live out his dream. Eboy Bautista, meanwhile, has always been on the heavy side, but the death of his father has got him thinking about his own mortality.

There is also Eric Limatog, an emotional eater, who ballooned to his current weight due to his mother’s illness, and fire volunteer JM Oloris who is afraid that people will tease his children because of his weight. Raffy Tan, who lost his parents in a gruesome crime, wants to be healthy so that he can give his sister a good future, while Ryan Razon hopes to learn to love himself and no longer be the “not-so-good-looking Razon son.”

Among the women, there is Angela Lupango who is desperate to shed the pounds so she could start a family with her husband and Winwin Cabinta who wants to finally look like a real lady after being mistaken for a tomboy most of her life.

Edden Cruz joined the show because she believes she can’t afford to get sick as her children depend on her. Hazel Chua took the challenge so her parents will be proud of her. Meanwhile, Joy Siy said she is doing this for herself and no one else. Through the show, they hope to not just lose weight but to also gain confidence and knowledge that will make them better persons after.

Silveradyo Marks DZMM’s 25 Years of Service and Leadership

DZMM is going full blast and hi-tech this year as it marks its 25th anniversary with the launch of DZMM SilveRadyo.

During a trade event, ABS-CBN Head for Manila Radio Division Peter Musngi announced that DZMM is set to upgrade its broadcast equipment and strengthen its public service efforts to mark the company’s milestone.

“DZMM is bound by its mission to be the first in breaking news and the first in public service. We’ve fulfilled it the past 25 years and we will continue to serve the public in the same manner as we grow stronger and get better,” said Musngi.

Musngi said DZMM will also strengthen its reach by improving the current DZMM text hotline 2366 React Message and website (dzmm.com.ph). He also teased the advertisers about the major events to come this year in line with the DZMM SilveRadyo, including the launch of its new station ID on June 12.

At the trade event, DZMM anchors, reporters, and executives performed to the delight of the advertisers and guests. Ted Failon and Pinky Webb of “Tambalang Failon at Webb” sang a duet, Anthony Taberna and Gerry Baja of “Dos Por Dos” serenaded the finalists of Binibining Pilipinas, while Karen Davila and Musngi surprised everyone with a rendition of the song “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko.”

Alex Santos of “Radyo Patrol Balita” and Tambayan 101.9 San Ka Pa’s DJ Chacha also did back-to-back duets with Toni Gonzaga and Jericho Rosales, respectively.

Musngi also thanked the advertisers for the unwavering support through the years. “All of the leadership and accomplishments of DZMM would not be possible without you,” he said.

DZMM has pioneered many firsts in the broadcast industry through the years, including the simultaneous airing of programs on radio and television with the ground-breaking DZMM TeleRadyo. Today, other radio stations have followed DZMM’s lead and broadcast their radio programs on TV.

DZMM is also tops when it comes to public service with innovative ways of bringing service to the Filipino people such as 2009’s “Kapamilya, Shower Na” that led to the birth of the DZMM TLC (Teaching Learning Caring) clinic-on-wheels and classroom-on-wheels project.
